Was left with no chance from Lampard's header as his defense gave the Chelsea midfielder the freedom of the six-yard-box. Couldn't really be faulted for the second either as Hazard guided the ball into the far corner with expert precision.
A bit of a hit and miss display from the Italian. Hit a woeful free kick that inadvertently led to Sunderland's opener but tested Cech with a fizzing effort that the keeper had to tip over. Was clumsy in defense, though, and Lampard shook him off far too easily for his goal.
Will play a big part this season if Sunderland is to pull itself out of the relegation mire, and he showed his leadership qualities with some composed defending against an unrelenting Chelsea attack.
Evidently struggled with pace and guile of Hazard throughout, turned inside out on multiple occasions, including the Belgian's goal. Had a nightmare when he put through his own goal under no real pressure but made immediate amends when he went down the other end and scored.
Some dodgy defending from the Irishman as Sunderland was caught out time and time again at the back. Did manage to draw his side level just after the break but did more damage with some poor positional sense.
A subdued display from the Italian as he still looks to come to terms with his horror miss from the weekend against Villa. Rarely threatened the Chelsea back line at all and was subbed for Johnson.
Did particularly well to pick out Altidore for the opening goal after Dossena's free kick zipped toward him at a quick pace. Was booked and had to brought off as he threatened to pick up a second yellow.
Picked up the ball and looked dangerous in the opening period. Left free kick duties to Dossena for some unknown reason when he was possibly better suited.
Was suppose to sit in front of the back four and give them some protection against a powerful Chelsea attack. In the end offered very little in the way of assistance and spurned late chance to equalize.
Took his goal well as he rolled Terry and stroked home beyond Cech to give the hosts the lead. Showed great strength throughout and forced the Chelsea players into some reckless challenges as they tried to get him off the ball.
Lively early on as he set out to make an impression against his former club. Looked threatening in possession but often held onto the ball too long and picked the wrong pass at crucial moments.
Was left with very little chance to keep out Altidore's effort that gave the hosts a first half lead. Did well to reposition himself and tip wide Dossena's effort after Ramires had put him in a sticky situation.
By his own high standards, the Chelsea captain didn't have his best game in a Blues shirt on his 400th appearance. Strong in the air but wayward with his distribution, positioning was also a problem, and the defender was certainly responsible for keeping Altidore onside for the first goal.
The former Bolton man looked solid in the air but struggled at times with the physical presence of Altidore. Lost concentration a few times, with Bardsley escaping his attention for Sunderland's third.
Asserted his authority down the right early on with some well-timed interceptions and important tackles. Often got forward and preferred crossing from deep, but found it difficult to locate a somewhat isolated Torres in the box.
Didn't get forward too much to help his left-sided partner Hazard, but then again didn't need to. Tried in vain to keep out O'Shea's effort on the line but kept Giaccherini quiet and proved a brick wall as Sunderland struggled to get crosses in down the flank.
Set up as the support for Torres through the center of a three-man attacking midfield but rarely got forward enough to help out the striker. Spurned one decent chance in the second half as he blasted wide on the angle.
A devastating display from the Belgian as he took full advantage of coming up against a poorly equipped Bardsley. Showed great awareness to pick out Lampard for the opening goal and took the second superbly after cutting inside from the left. Took his third brilliantly too after neat work with Lampard.
Blasted wide an early opportunity from a position where he's often done much better. Typically elusive for his goal as he escaped the attentions of Dossena with ease to head home unchallenged. Lovely build up with Hazard too for the third.
Sat deep in front of Chelsea's back four as he looked to prevent the hosts from breaking when the Blues lost the ball farther up the park by fair or foul measures. Had to resort to foul measure on a couple of occasions, one bringing him a booking as he took out Altidore.
Usually clinical against Sunderland, the former Liverpool star was anything but this evening. Having scored six times in his previous seven starts in the Premier League against the Black Cats, he somehow blazed over with the goal gaping after Mannone had stopped Hazard's effort and was subsequently pulled off for Ba.
Swung in the original corner from which Chelsea drew level. Got at Dossena down the right and often caused the Italian problems but his performance, along with everyone else on the pitch, was overshadowed by that of his teammate's on the opposite flank.
