Live Commentary

  • Not the best game from Holden. Probably the poorest performance out of Holden this season. Real shame, that was a chance for road points against Sunderland, and it's one that got away.
  • 90'
Mishit with under a minute to play and a real chance at goal for Bolton. That's probably the last chance of the game, and indeed it is. There's the whistle.
  • 90'
Less than two minutes left here and Sunderland have a goalkick to waste some time.
  • 90'
Four minutes to get the equalizer for Bolton. Sunderland look desperate for the points. They're really trying to hang on here as Bolton push forward, wave after wave without really earning a chance.
  • 86'
Late push from Bolton. Lot of defending from Sunderland right now, but they are steady at getting plenty of block. Gordon called on for another save, but it's still 1-0 in favor of the home side.
  • 83'
    SubstitutionMatthew Taylor Rodrigo
  • 83'
    SubstitutionFabrice Muamba Tamir Cohen
  • 80'
Nothing new really. Sunderland still pushing the pace, Bolton still struggling to find the game. They are holding firm down a goal, but this looks destined to end with Sunderland still on top.
  • 74'
    SubstitutionAsamoah Gyan Boudewijn Zenden
  • 70'
Sunderland should have gone 2-0 up. Bent, Gyan, Welbeck, all involved but it's Welbeck's side-footed effort that touches the outside of the post on the way by.
  • 67'
Bolton have let this game, at least the pace of the game, get away from them. It's a highlighting of the difference between the new Bolton and the old Bolton. Old Bolton would have been fine with route 1, new Bolton look uncomfortable.
  • 64'
    Yellow Card Fabrice Muamba
  • 64'
Muamba gets booked, right so, for another bad tackle.
  • 63'
    SubstitutionMartin Petrov Ivan Klasnic
  • 63'
Poor showing from Perov today. He's off, replaced by a striker, and I doubt many Bolton fans will complain.
  • 57'
Thank to Petrov and Elmander, the fans behind the Sunderland goal are seeing plenty of the ball.
  • 54'
    Yellow Card Stuart Holden
  • 54'
Holden picks up a booking. Not really doing much there but two fouls in under 30 seconds will get the cards out of the refs pocket.
  • 51'
Long range effort from Elmander, not really a problem for the keeper. That's the first look at goal for either team this half.
  • 50'
Honestly, is Owen Coyle the only manager in the world that rocks a full lower kit - shorts and socks included - rather than warm ups. And all the other EPL matches have been called off for snow, so there's no way it's warm.
  • 48'
It's actually pretty impressive how in control of this match Sunderland seems to be. It's controlled chaos, but Bolton are doing well to keep up.
  • 46'
Action is back on. Just saw a replay of Gordon's save on Knight. Amazing. Hard to explain, but it was a sure goal taken away.
  • 45'
And there's the half time whistle. Not so much of a thriller here. Bad news for Holden and the boys, they have a hill to climb in the second frame.
  • 45'
Wow what a save.Ball headed back across the Sunderland goals at it looks like a tap in for Knight. But Craig Gordon makes one of the best save of the season to deny the big defender and keep Sunderland in front.
  • 43'
This is turning into a very rough and tumble match. Plenty of tackling, grabbing, physical play. Not much in the way of good play.
  • 40'
    Yellow Card Lee Cattermole
  • 39'
Bolton caught a little break there. Gyan again on the break finds Welbeck running the center with a great ball, but the youngster can't control. Holden gets dragged down as Bolton head back the other way.
  • 38'
Still not much to show for Bolton. They're really struggling to get caught up to the pace that Sunderland are playing with. Lot of speed on the pitch for the home side with Gyan, Welbeck and company.
  • 34'
    Yellow Card Gary Cahill
  • 32'
Bolton can't clear their lines. Bent had a go.. another great save but it's out in front of goal and Welbeck's diving header find the net. It's 1-0 to Sunderland.
  • 32'
    Assist Darren Bent
  • 32'
    Goal Danny Welbeck
  • 31'
Gyan just had a real chance. Nice break in behind the defense after turning Zat Knight. The hit took a deflection, great save.
  • 29'
Still not much in the way of goalmouth action here. Sunderland, with their normal style, seem to have Bolton out of sorts. Not much of the beautiful passing moves we've come to see out of Owen Coyle's side.
  • 24'
And there's the first real action of the game involving the American. A nice little combination with Davies down the left. Peters out in the end but still a nice move. Elmander blows a header over goal to end the spell of pressure.
  • 22'
    SubstitutionJohn Mensah Ahmed El Mohamady
  • 21'
And now Mensah goes off. No choice really.
  • 20'
If you're tuning in to the AA GOTW, you may wonder why there haven't been many mentions of Holden so far. It's pretty simple, he's barely touched the ball in the opening 20 minutes.
  • 18'
Back underway and Mensah limps back on. Honestly, he looks like he's really struggling.
  • 15'
A little break in the action here as Mensah goes down under a challenge from Davies. Looked clean enough but maybe the knee got rolled up. Either way, Mensah is struggling to get off the pitch and his day might be over.
  • 13'
Some good pressure from Sunderland for the last minute or two. Bent has the best look at goal but the striker just didn't get it right.
  • 9'
Very few early chances, but Kevin Davies gets the first look at goal. Mensah is on hand to make the block and clear the danger.
  • 3'
This is one of the few EPL games still being played today due to the snow and the early showing make it look like it will be a good one.
  • 1'
And we're underway with Stuart Holden and Bolton taking on Sunderland in the Americans Abroad game of the week.
