Sporting Kansas City took an early lead, but another goal from the English striker earned a point for the Red Bulls.
Sporting took the lead in front of its home support inside the first 10 minutes through Antonio Dovale, who picked up a pass from Benny Feilhaber in the ninth minute and ducked inside before curling home from just outside the box. The goal was the first of his MLS career for the former Barcelona academy player.
Despite plenty of attacking intent from both teams, that score held until just after halftime when Wright-Phillips stuck.
In the 50th minute, Thierry Henry's darting run forward with the ball sucked in the Sporting defense and left plenty of space in behind for Henry to pick out Wright-Phillips, who had a simple touch around the onrushing Eric Kronberg. The goal was the 11th of the year for Wright-Phillips, putting him top of the league's scoring chart.
The draw leaves New York just outside the top six in the Eastern Conference while Sporting stays four points back of New England at the top of the table.
