The keeper had a very quiet first half. Could not have done anything to prevent the two goals and made a decent stop from Gomez in the second half.
Part of a defence that looked fine in the first half when put under little pressure, but failed to deal with it in the second. Unlucky to see his header clip the bar at the other end.
Got forward well to support his side on the attack, but sometimes held onto the ball too long. Looked comfortable defending Wigan's counterattacks.
The left-back received lengthy treatment half an hour into the game, but didn't seem affected as he put in a solid defensive display for most of the game. He did enough to stop Kone getting his goal earlier in the half. Could have got forward more.
Questions have been asked, and will continue to be, of this centre-back pairing. Comfortable in the first half but allowed Kone to steal the ball and score a second when Saints desperately needed a goal themselves. Missed a good late chance himself.
Popped up in some dangerous areas but lacked the final product and went missing at times. Could have shown more desire to get on the end of a Lallana free-kick in the first half.
Saints' standout performer in a fairly poor display. Saw a brilliant strike tipped onto the bar by Al-Habsi early on. Always looking dangerous on the front foot when running at defenders. Didn't get enough of the ball after the break.
Was part of a midfield that pressed the opponents well in the first period but then went to sleep after the break. Lacked the creativity he normally can bring.
Decent first half but was over-run by Wigan's midfield in the second, brought off with 15 minutes left.
Was prolific with Burnley last season but seemed to get a bit lost on Saturday. He misplaced a couple passes and looked out of position when drifting wide. Brought off in the second half.
Proved a handful in the air and on the ground for the Latics, saw a strong header beaten away by Al-Habsi after the break and had a low strike well saved too. But, wasn't involved enough as he should have been against a suspect Wigan defence.
Ali Al Habsi
Didn't have too much to do but when called upon made a wonderful save from Lallana. Palmed a strong Lambert header away, and then a Fox volley after the break. Pulled off another magnificent save from Lambert's long shot to keep Wigan in front.
Solid game from the experienced defender, did particularly well when Lallana looked favourite to be clear through on goal in the first half.
Wasn't quick enough to close down in the first half but was solid going forward and in defence after the break.
The summer signing had a poor game against Chelsea, but looked more comfortable at St Mary's.
Quiet in the first, like the majority of his side, but got in behind Clyne a number of times after the break.
Part of a much improved defensive display from the visitors, put in a number of blocks.
Gave Lallana to much room in the first half which allowed the Saints man to dictate the game. Did much better in the second as Wigan looked comfortable.
Also a culprit of allowing the Saints' skipper too much room, but again got better in the second as he helped the visitors keep the ball.
F. Di Santo
Struggled to hold onto the ball when isolated up the pitch and also wasted some decent positions, however, made no mistake with a fabulous finish after the break. Replaced with 20 minutes left.
Mixed bag for the new man. Failed to get involved, though had a tough job as Wigan saw little of the ball for most of the game. Got a late, easy, second for Wigan as Saints pushed forward, but could have scored another one.
Very quiet first half as he failed to get involved with Saints dominating, but found some joy dropping into a pocket of space behind the strikers in the second and assisted the goal. Brought off with 15 minutes left.
