A 52nd minute strike from A.C. Milan striker Valter Birsa proved the difference Tuesday as Slovenia claimed the win. The result means Canada finishes 2013 without a win.

Canada will finish 2013 without a win, and head coach Benito Floro still is without a victory.

This after Canada fell away to Slovenia 1-0 in Celje in its final match of the year on Tuesday.

Valter Birsa scored the game's decisive goal in the 52nd minute, bursting away from Adam Straith and firing a low effort which went underneath goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos

But despite the defeat, Canada did have chances. Kyle Porter got into a good position in the eighth minute, and Dwayne De Rosario found him at the edge of the area. But Porter couldn't get the ball out of his feet well enough, and Jan Oblak dealt comfortably with his weak effort on target.

Three minutes later, Porter returned the favour, teeing up De Rosario, whose left-footed effort looked destined for the top left corner until Oblak once again intervened.

Stefan Cebara turned well in the 21st minute, but he failed to get enough power on his left-footed strike, which allowed Oblak to gather safely.

Slovenia waited until the 23rd minute to get its first real chance, as Roman Bezjak got on the end of a through ball and cracked an effort off the crossbar. Six minutes later, the home side came close again, as Birsa missed by inches to the left side of target with a left-footed strike from well outside the area.

Substitute Dejan Lazarevic did well to cut in from the right and get a low effort on target in the 64th minute, but Stamatopoulos saved comfortably.

Jasmin Kurtic came close with a free kick from just outside the area, but Stamatopoulos palmed the ball out well for a corner kick.

Kyle Bekker took a right-footed crack from distance in the 82rd minute, getting away from his marker, but the effort was too close to the goalkeeper, who saved well. Then Slovenia countered moments later, with Robert Beric getting off a right-footed effort after receiving a pass from Lazarevic.
