Chris Wondolowski got his season rolling early, but Real Salt Lake stormed back to claim a second win in as many matches.Real Salt Lake and San Jose played out a thriller in the late kickoff for MLS Saturday night, with each team having to come from behind at one point before finishing 3-3.
Chris Wondolowski opened the scoring with just six minutes of the game played, touching home a curling free kick with his thigh to notch his 80th goal in Maor League Soccer and give the Earthquakes a 1-0 advantage early on.
That lead lasted all of five minutes before Kyle Beckerman blasted a left-footed shot into the net to pull Real Salt Lake level.
In the 32nd minute Joao Plata latched onto a through ball and slotted home to give RSL the lead.
Deep into first-half stoppage time Salt Lake extended the advantage through Luke Mulholland who managed to put RSL two ahead when he poked home from close range after Ned Grabavoy's shot was pushed back into his path by San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch.
But the home side wasn't out of it just yet.
Victor Bernardez headed home from a corner to cut the lead in half with 15 minutes of normal time remaining, leading to a frantic finish.
Wondolowski, Alan Gordon and Steven Lenhart all had chances to pull the Earthquakes level during the closing run of the match, with Alvaro Saborio hitting the post at the other end for RSL, but the comeback wouldn't be completed until right at the death.
Bernardez rounded out the scoring with his second of the night five minutes into stoppage time, this time firing home with his right foot to give a thrilling match a fitting conclusion.
