San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 Philadelphia Union: Union fall to 10-man Quakes

Chris Nicoll

A brilliant goal from Shea Salinas was enough for San Jose to overcome a red card and the Union.

Shea Salinas netted a brilliant goal early in the match and the San Jose Earthquakes held on, despite going down to 10 men early in the second half, to take a 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union.

Salinas' got his second goal of the season in style, taking a Sam Cronin chip in stride and clipping it past Zac MacMath
to give his side a lead in the 15th minute.

In the 57th minute the game took another turn, with Rafael Baca keeping his cleats too high while sliding in late on Conor Casey and having his night end early, leaving the Union with over 30 minutes to make the man advantage pay off.

But the Earthquakes managed to hold on to the lead and keep the clean sheet, earning three big points as they look to make a late push for the playoffs.
