San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Columbus Crew: Wondolowski equalizes for Quakes

The American forward was again on target from a set piece to erase a first-half goal from Federico Higuain and seal a draw.

The San Jose Earthquakes didn't leave it as late as usual but used a Chris Wondolowski goal from a corner kick to equalize in the second half and draw 1-1 with the visiting Columbus Crew. It is the sixth time in the last seven meetings between clubs that a draw was the outcome.

In the 44th minute, Hector Jimenez switched the field to find Waylon Francis on the left flank. The Costa Rican played in a low cross which found Federico Higuain who put the finish past San Jose goalkeeper John Busch.

The Earthquakes made a switch at halftime, bringing on Yannick Djalo to replace Cordell Cato. The change nearly paid dividends immediately with two chances in quick succession being dealt with by Columbus goalkeeper Steve Clark. He was beaten in the 50th minute, though, with a Shea Salinas delivering a corner kick which found the head of an unmarked Chris Wondolowski at the near post.

After the Crew dominated the first half, the hosts controlled the match in the second but neither side was able to capitalize and find a winner, with both teams concluding the match with 20 attempts on goal according to MLS stats. Wondolowski and Columbus center back Giancarlo Gonzalez got into a shoving match after Gonzalez got away with a foul on the Earthquakes forward but neither the referee or the assistant saw fit to call for a any discipline.
