Seattle Sounders 4-0 San Jose Earthquakes: Lamar Neagle double leads rampant Sounders to huge win

Steve Dykes

Poor finishing and worse defending condemned San Jose to a heavy defeat at the hands of Seattle.

The Seattle Sounders launched an attacking onslaught against the San Jose Earthquakes to claim a 4-0 win and put the team's early-season woes firmly in the rear-view mirror.

Lamar Neagle got things started in the 28th minute, hammering a shot past Jon Busch after Mauro Rosales chested Eddie Johnson's cross into his path.

Rosales doubled Seattle's lead in first-half stoppage time, bending in a fantastic free kick from the corner of the box to the corner of the net.

Neagle sealed the win with his second of the game in the 54th minute. Taking down a long ball, he maneuvered himself into space and found the low corner of the new with a shot from outside the penalty area.

Obafemi Martins rubbed salt in San Jose's wounds right at the end of the game, taking advantage of a deflected San Jose clearance to punish the Earthquakes and cap a fantastic day for Seattle.

The victory is Seattle's third win in four matches, and the Sounders are now on a five-match unbeaten streak.
