MLS Preview: Seattle Sounders - Real Salt Lake

MLS Preview: Seattle Sounders - Real Salt Lake

Steven Bisig

RSL will put its unbeaten record on the line when it travels to face the first-place Sounders at CenturyLink Field.

With 12 games under its belt, Real Salt Lake is still unbeaten. But the club will need to pass its toughest test yet if it wants to kick off June with that distinction intact.

RSL (6-0-6) will face the first-place Seattle Sounders (8-3-2) on Saturday at CenturyLink Field (4 p.m. ET, MLS Live) in a clash of the top two teams in the Western Conference.

Both clubs will be shorthanded because of USA call-ups for the World Cup, with Seattle missing right back DeAndre Yedlin and forward Clint Dempsey and RSL without goalkeeper Nick Rimando and midfielder Kyle Beckerman. Salt Lake is also missing striker Alvaro Saborio (Costa Rica).

For Seattle, center back Djimi Traore (groin) and midfielder Lamar Neagle (knee) are question marks. RSL won't have forward Joao Plata available because of a hamstring injury, while midfielders Luis Gil (hamstring) and Cole Grossman (shin) are questionable.

It's the first meeting of 2014 between the traditional Western powers after RSL went 2-1-0 against the Sounders last year.
