Live Commentary

  • That will be all from me tonight. Hope you all enjoyed the game commentary. If not, send all your hatemail over to the Twitter account @GoalUSA. This is Steven Streff, signing off. Streff out! (follow me on Twitter @streffsoccer).
  • 90' + 4'
Seattle perhaps the better team on the night, but a lack of finishing again plagues Seattle. Sigi needs to figure something out, quickly.
  • 90' + 4'
And that does it! Los Angeles defeats Seattle once again, this time 1-0, thanks to a goal from Juninho in the 58th minute.
  • 90' + 4'
Montero serves the ball in from 40 yards out, but it is again a poor ball in.
  • 90' + 3'
    Yellow CardDavid Beckham
  • 90' + 3'
One last chance for Seattle, as Beckham has picked up a late, late yellow card.
  • 90' + 3'
Saunders again with another shaky moment. But his defense is there to bail him out.
  • 90' + 1'
Long ball played forward is headed on target accidentally by DeLaGarza, and Saunders pushes it wide for a corner, which Seattle can't convert.
  • 90' + 1'
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played.
  • 89'
Another poor, poor free kick from Seattle. Alonso's delivery couldn't even clear the first line of defense in the box from 40 yards out.
  • 87'
Seattle still knocking on the door, but their latest effort is flagged for offside.
  • 85'
Montano on for Zakuani. Another head scratch-er from Sigi there. Zakuani had been one of his best performers this game, and his level of play never really dropped as the game went on.
  • 84'
    SubstitutionSteve Zakuani M. Montaño
  • 83'
Of course, just as I say that, Montero unleashes a shot from 25 yards out that Saunders has to scramble to parry away for a corner.
  • 83'
After winning their first two season opening matches (both at home), Seattle are seven minutes away from their first losing start in MLS play.
  • 80'
Old man winters Kirovski comes on for Barrett.
  • 79'
    SubstitutionChad Barrett Jovan Kirovski
  • 79'
Neagle is on for White. White had a decent match, but he'll regret those missed chances. Could have earned a victory for Seattle.
  • 78'
    SubstitutionO'Brian White Lamar Neagle
  • 76'
Stephens comes into the match for Magee. Still looks like a 4-4-2 from Los Angeles, although Donovan is going to still play like a midfielder, despite moving up top.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionMike Magee Michael Stephens
  • 75'
Levesque was right there ready to tap it in, but Franklin saved the day for LA. But, a goal for Seattle looks inevitable at this point. LA have to hold on for another 15 minutes.
  • 75'
Wow. Again, Seattle have a chance, as Montero sends a cross into the box. This time, Franklin makes the tackle, and clears the ball out.
  • 74'
Zakuani was a doubt to start, but he's been on of Seattle's best players on the field. He is really becoming a force in his third season in the league.
  • 72'
Zakuani with a great move down the right, sending a cross in that O'Brian White sends just wide of the far post. Great move, but White HAS to do better.
  • 70'
Seattle with a free kick 40 yards out, but Friburg wastes the chance with a poor, poor delivery.
  • 69'
Beckham tees up Juninho for another long range shot. Why not? This time, his effort is no where near the goal.
  • 68'
Announced attendance in Seattle: 36,433. Highest ever for an MLS game in Seattle (regular season, of course).
  • 67'
Going back to Fernandez. I thought he had shown well so far this game. I can understand his frustration. He adds something to the side.
  • 65'
Donovan hits the bar! Magee plays Donovan through, and Donovan takes his shot early, but hits the bar on the near side, having beat Keller.
  • 63'
    SubstitutionÁ. Fernández Roger Levesque
  • 63'
Fernandez was taken over for Roger Levesque.. but Fernandez was not happy at all as he got to the bench.
  • 62'
Waste from Beckham, as a rolling ball through the box finds him at the far post. Disappointingly, Beckham puts his shot well over the goal.
  • 61'
HOLY..... Alonso just hit the ball 100 mph. Just over the bar, but man, I don't think he could have hit that any harder. Good response from Seattle thus far.
  • 59'
That shot had some nice bend to it. Started wide of the goal, but then came back in. Maybe Keller could have done better, maybe not.
  • 58'
    GoalJuninho
  • 58'
Little layoff from Dunivant, and Juninho smacks a shot at the near post, and Keller can only get some fingers on it as the ball hits the back of the net.
  • 58'
    Goal from Juninho!
  • 57'
Too many crosses from each team. Neither team has that target man who could win a header in the box.
  • 55'
Alonso is such a destroyed in the middle for Seattle. Just shut down Donovan there, creating a chance for Seattle, as Zakuani finds Fernandez out wide on the right.
  • 52'
Fernandez with a decent looking cross into the box, but White made a different run, and ended up no where near the ball.
  • 49'
Zakuani with an early angled ball that nearly finds White in the box, but Saunders is off his line to claim the ball.
  • 46'
Birchall with a long range effort that forces a full stretch save from Keller. Might have been bouncing wide, but Keller wasn't going to take a chance.
  • 46'
Teams as they were in the first half, and Seattle gets the second half underway!
  • Seattle dominated the first half statistically. 7 shots to 5 for LA, 5 on target to 1 for LA, and 56% possession for Seattle.
  • There is already an AllState save of the game? ESPN really wants to get those sponsors in quickly.
  • I don't imagine there will be any changes to start the half, but if there are, we'll analyze them as they come out.
  • Seattle need more play in the midfield, especially through Alonso and Friburg. Give those two the ball more, and allow them to create from there. Seattle relying on wings too much.
  • Beckham struggled through most of the half, but late on he was a bit more impact. LA needs to find a way to get Barrett more involved though. On several occasions, Seattle struggled with his pace. But the Galaxy haven't taken advantage of that.
  • The game hasn't really lived up to the hype. Maybe the rain is having an affect on the game, but both teams are lacking sharpness. On the whole, Seattle have been the better side.
  • 45' + 3'
End of the first half. Score is Seattle 0-0 Los Angeles.
  • 45' + 2'
Wow. Beckham's free kick from 30 yards out is just over the bar. Keller might have had it covered, but it was just inches wide.
  • 45' + 1'
    Yellow CardL. González
  • 45' + 1'
Free kick for LA, as Beckham is tripped up by Gonzalez. Yellow for Gonzalez.
  • 45' + 1'
One minute of stoppage time is announced.
  • 44'
    Yellow CardErik Friberg
  • 43'
Mistake from Saunders almost gifts a goal to Seattle! Saunders comes out for a cross, but whiffs it at completely. LA fail to clear, and the ball falls to Friburg, but with Saunders out of the goal, Friburg bounces his shot just wide.
  • 42'
Chance falls to White at the top of the box, but the shot is straight at Saunders.
  • 40'
Just five minutes left in the first half, and this game already needs some reviving. Long ball antics are taking a toll on the game.
  • 36'
Franklin is played beyond the defense by Beckham, but Franklin's cross is collected by Keller with Barrett lurking in the area.
  • 34'
That last update downplayed the importance of Saunders. My apologies. It was a great save by Saunders. It was from a point blank range, and he had to be quick to react.
  • 32'
Oh! Nearly a goal for Seattle. No one deals with an Alonso corner, and it falls to Montero at the far post, but his shot is saved by Saunders.
  • 31'
Loose ball in the box falls to White, and he is able to steer a shot on target, but DeLaGarza gets enough pressure to ensure a weak shot from White.
  • 29'
LA is disappointing in the final third so far. It appears that they are mentally incapable of breaking Seattle down.
  • 26'
Second corner finds Donovan, but he sends it well over.
  • 26'
Beckham sends a corner kick in that is headed out for another.
  • 25'
Friburg sends a free kick in that is deflected over to Fernandez, who sends a header straight at Saunders.
  • 24'
What a waste from White! Zakuani does wonderful to get to the touch line, and send a cross in, but White's poor touch ends the chance prematurely.
  • 23'
    Yellow CardChris Birchall
  • 23'
Barrett would be such a good player if his on the ball skills came any where near matching his pace.
  • 22'
Parke concedes a corner as Donovan breaks into the box. Donovan could have done more with that though.
  • 22'
Los Angeles has been the better side thus far, but that haven't really created any chances. Montero has the lone goal scoring opportunity, and that was from 30 yards out.
  • 20'
Seattle wait around to give up advantage so they can have a free kick, and then send the quick free kick well past Zakuani. Get it together, Sounders.
  • 18'
Juninho remembered that goal against Seattle that he scored last Fourth Of July, and tried the same this year. Should have thought better of it... that ball is still on its way down.
  • 17'
Another free kick from Beckham, but again Seattle is able to clear easily. That one floated on Becks.
  • 13'
Beckham with a cheap give away in midfield as Alonso gives a little pressure. Disappointing from Beckham.
  • 13'
Beckham with a cheap give away in midfield as Alonso gives a little pressure. Disappointing from Beckham.
  • 12'
Poor clearance from Parke falls to Birchall, who takes his chances at goal, but his effort bounces wide of the near post.
  • 11'
Alvaro Fernandez has been lively down the right so far for Seattle. Really will be interesting to see how he fares this season.
  • 10'
Mike Magee forgot the rules of the game there, as Donovan forces the turnover, but Magee was about 100 yards off. Didn't convert the chance anyways.
  • 9'
Cracking shot from Montero forces a big save out of Saunders. That play started with a really poor pass from Donovan in the Seattle half.
  • 7'
Hurtado with an easy strip of the ball on Becks, much to the delight of the fans in the crowd. Beckham made that to easy for Hurtado though.
  • 6'
Quick Galaxy break there through Chad Barrett, but another pass in from Juninho to Beckham was off the mark.
  • 4'
Beckham's delivery was easily cleared out by James Riley. Disappointing, Golden Balls.
  • 3'
Dangerous free kick for Los Angeles, as Juninho was taken down. Beckham to take the kick.
  • 1'
And within the first 25 seconds, both keepers have touched the ball. Can't imagine the game being that fast paced throughout.
  • 1'
MLS 2011 is underway! Los Angeles gets us underway.
  • Would have much preferred to have seen a normal tactical lineup graphic, instead of the fancy mockup.
  • Both teams are in a 4-4-2 formation, with Seattle having a diamond in the midfield.
  • Lots of factual errors made by the pregame team on ESPN unfortunately. Hopefully that won't ruin the entire broadcast.
  • Teams are out on the field, and the game is mere moments away from kickoff. Still haven't seen the predictions I would have liked to see!
  • Taylor Twellman shown using Twitter on live television. Hopefully that isn't a common practice this year. Twitter is fun, but its unprofessional on tv.
  • Lalas alluding to Beckham by mentioning the fact that Henry spent the entire pre-season with New York. Burn!
  • Right before the commercial break there, John Harkes said that "they need to score girls". Doesn't sound like a winning solution on the field. At the bar maybe, but that isn't really a strategy.
  • So the game actually starts 10 pm.... which means I will have to come up with enough creative content to keep you guys entertained.
  • Debate between Alexi Lalas and Taylor Twellman about whether or not Beckham should have been training with Tottenham. Twellman took my side there -- he should have been with his LA teammates.
  • One vote for the Fightin' Xbox Lives. That's coming from one of my friends though. Lets hear some more!
  • I forgot to introduce myself! How rude of myself. I am legendary Goal.com commentator, Steven Streff. Welcome all. Send some match predictions on Twitter to @GoalUSA and @streffsoccer Who do you guys think will win?
  • For those in the States, the game is on ESPN and ESPN3.com
  • Los Angeles XI: GK Saunders, D Franklin, D DeLaGarza, D Leonardo, D Dunivant, M Beckham, M Birchall, M Juninho, M Donovan, F Magee, F Barrett
  • Seattle XI: GK Keller, D Riley, D Hurtado, D Parke, D Gonzalez, M Fernandez, M Alonso, M Friberg, M Zakuani, F Montero, F White
  • Here are the first team lineups.
  • Big news announced just one hour before kickoff. Blaise N'kufo and Seattle have parted ways. That is the second time in the last year that Seattle have departed with a designated player. The timing has to be the most shocking aspect though.
