The U.S. international scored twice early in the second half to provide Seattle with its third straight win
The Sounders opened the scoring just before the halftime whistle. Obafemi Martins found the cutting Dempsey with a great through ball and the U.S. international rounded Clint Irwin and got a shot away. Drew Moor could only divert the ball away from goal, but Lamar Neagle trailed the play and tapped home into an empty net.
Seattle opened up the second half like it ended the first, and this time it was the league’s in-form player who scored the goal. Dempsey flicked a pass through to Marco Pappa, whose shot wasn’t handled by Irwin. Dempsey was on hand to tap in the rebound.
Dempsey grabbed his second and league-best eighth of the season just minutes later off a corner kick. Chad Marshall won the initial header and Dempsey’s header from six yards looped over Irwin and into the back of the net.
Colorado pulled one back with 30 minutes to pay when Nick LaBrocca threaded a perfect through ball for Dillon Serna, who finished for his first MLS goal. Martins added a curling right-footed strike with 15 minutes to go however, ensuring a comfortable win for the home side.
