Live Commentary

  • It's been a pleasure to talk you through that game this evening, I hope you've enjoyed yourselves too. Good night all!
  • Fair result over the whole game, Wales were terrific in the first half an hour but Scotland played themselves into the game and managed to get a goal through Hanley. A really good run and header from the youngster for that. Second half saw both sides commit to a high tempo but Robert Snodgrass' red card killed Scotland off, with Ramsey hauling the Dragons level from the subsequent spot kick before Robson-Kanu headed the visitors in front just two minutes later.
  • Full time! Scotland 1-2 Wales. Identical scoreline and road to that score as the last meeting between the sides. Hanley fired the Scots in front after a dismal first half display but two quick goals from Ramsey, from the spot, and Robson-Kanu means Gordon Strachan loses his first competitive game as Scotland boss. His side remain bottom of the qualifying group.
  • 90' + 4'
    Red Card Aaron Ramsey
  • 90' + 4'
Red card! Ramsey gets his marching orders for a foul outside the box. Both sides to finish this with just 10 men.
  • 90' + 3'
Adam has a shot blocked! Scotland looked likely to repeat their stoppage time scoring feat but the Stoke midfielder's long range effort was deflected by a defender.
  • 90'
Four minutes of injury time for Scotland to try and stop Wales doing the double over them.
  • 89'
    SubstitutionJoe Ledley Simon Church
  • 87'
    SubstitutionChris Burke Jordan Rhodes
  • 86'
Goal machine Jordan Rhodes is on for Scotland in place of Burke, might be too little too late though.
  • 85'
Great save McGregor! Close range block from King, the goalkeeper gets a foot onto the shot to see it wide for a corner.
  • 84'
Bellamy almost plays Ledley in with a decent square ball, he had burst into the box free and cut the ball back to the Celtic midfielder who tried to lay it off to his colleague unsuccessfully. Scotland break but the move goes nowhere.
  • 82'
Wales rolling the ball around at a pedestrian pace. Look comfortable with their lead.
  • 80'
The game has come full circle, Wales doing all the pressing with 10-man Scotland unable to get on the ball. The Welsh look like they'll add a third soon.
  • 75'
    Assist Andy King
  • 75'
    Goal Hal Robson-Kanu
Goal! 1-2 Robson-Kanu gives Wales the lead. Close range header from King's cross. Deja vu for Scotland, 1-0 up and going behind to two late goals.
  • 72'
    Penalty Goal Aaron Ramsey
Goal! 1-1 Ramsey smashes the penalty in off the bar. Wales draw level.
  • 71'
    Yellow/Red Robert Snodgrass
  • 70'
Red card! Snodgrass picks up a second yellow card for a foul on Gunter and the referee has awarded a penalty.
  • 69'
Test him he does, curling the ball over the wall to the bottom corner but McGregor saved down low to his right. Decent effort and decent save.
  • 69'
Bellamy has a free kick about 23 yards outside the box, should be testing McGregor from here.
  • 68'
    Yellow Card Grant Hanley
  • 66'
Neither side able to string a good series of passes together, can't imagine the snowy surface helping that though.
  • 64'
    SubstitutionGraham Dorrans Charlie Adam
  • 63'
Scotland substitution here as Charlie Adam comes on for Dorrans.
  • 63'
The snow is getting rather heavy at Hampden now. Feel for our reporter Matt Harold who will be freezing his face off at the game right now.
  • 59'
Wales have the ball in the net but the referee calls for a foul on Scotland goalkeeper McGregor. The substitute King impeded the former Rangers man before the ball was bundled over the line.
  • 58'
    SubstitutionJack Collison Andy King
  • 58'
And Chris Coleman does indeed make that change. Wales have a corner, Bellamy standing ready to take it.
  • 57'
Andy King is set to come on for Wales, likely to replace Collison.
  • 53'
Scotland hit the post! Snodgrass' curler strikes the back post. This is not the side that started the game. Great strike.
  • 52'
    Yellow Card Kenny Miller
  • 51'
Almost 2-0! Ricketts with a great block from Burke inside the box before Dorrans fires over. Good move from Scotland.
  • 50'
Wales still a threat without Bale then, Ramsey heading a run into the Scotland box but he couldn't get a shot away.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionGareth Bale Jonathan Williams
  • 46'
Bad news for Wales as Bale is replaced by Jonathan Williams at the interval.
  • If we could get a mix of both the good Wales and the good Scotland then we'd be in for a terrific second half. Too much to hope for?
  • Wales won't be too happy with the scoreline given the way they started the game but the players look absolutely nackered at the end of the half. Definitely in need of a break.
  • Wales battered Scotland for the first half of that, erm, half, but somehow the hosts got into the game and after a number of good chances went amiss, Hanley headed in right at the death.
  • 45' + 3'
    Half time: Scotland 1-0 Wales
  • 45' + 2'
    Yellow Card Aaron Ramsey
  • 45' + 2'
Ramsey is booked for a swipe at Maloney. How are Wales going into the break a goal down?
  • 45' + 1'
    Assist Charles Mulgrew
  • 45' + 1'
    Goal Grant Hanley
GOAL! 1-0 Scotland. Hanley fires in a header from Mulgrew's corner. Good run from Hanley.
  • 45'
Three minutes of injury time at the end of this half. Wales have surrendered more of the ball to Scotland in the last 10-15 minutes and the Scots look dangerous.
  • 42'
Bale down receiving treatment there but he gets back up.
  • 39'
Mulgrew sees his long range free kick sail into Myhill's arms. The Celtic player's set pieces are a big threat for Scotland so that effort as a bit of a waste.
  • 36'
Williams hoofs clear after Caldwell threads a ball in for Hutton from deep, the right back had the beating of the goalkeeper there so the defender had to intervene.
  • 33'
Lovely work from Scotland again! Good one-two with Burke and Miller sees the Birmingham City winger released down the right, he slides the ball across the face of goal and Gunter has to clear for a corner with dark blue jerseys lurking.
  • 32'
What a chance for Scotland. Mulgrew fires in a delightful cross from the left wing but Miller jumps too early and heads over. Scotland getting into the game now.
  • 32'
Yellow card! Robson-Kanu is the first into the referee's book for a foul on Burke.
  • 31'
    Yellow Card Hal Robson-Kanu
  • 29'
Better from Scotland. Snodgrass and Dorrans link well before Burke receives the ball inside the area, the winger taking too many touches before Wales cleared.
  • 26'
Save from McGregor! Bale fires an effort in from outside the box. Robson-Kanu's cut-back to Bellamy was cleared by a defender just before that.
  • 24'
Bellamy passes through the Scottish defence like it isn't even there but Collison slowed his run and the ball ran to McGregor. The Welsh are dominant here but the mistakes by the hosts' defence aren't helping their cause.
  • 23'
The game is starting to look like one involving Spain or Barcelona, such is the chasm in possession. Aside from that Miller chance Wales are pretty much embanked 25 yards outside of McGregor's goal trying to break through a see of dark blue.
  • 22'
Miller heads over the bar from 7 yards out from Burke's cross in a rare venture forward for Scotland. Very close from the Vancouver Whitecaps man.
  • 19'
Bad mistake from Hanley at the back. Young defender's pass was poor and Bale seized on it, but the Spurs man's ball for Bellamy was too soft to punish Scotland. Robson-Kanu almost found some joy on the left side of the box after that but the defence held out.
  • 16'
Bale effort from outside the box is blocked for a corner.
  • 14'
Confusion in the Scotland box between Hanley and McGregor sees the Besiktas goalkeeper almost clear the ball into his own net from 18 yards out. Yeah, that nearly happened.
  • 11'
    Yellow Card Robert Snodgrass
  • 11'
Wales continue to enjoy all the possession. Scotland can't get out of their own half as it stands.
  • 7'
Welsh ball over the top to Bellamy comes to nothing, Scottish defence already looking weak tonight.
  • 5'
Fletcher is carried off and is replaced by Kenny Miller.
  • 4'
    SubstitutionSteven Fletcher Kenny Miller
  • 2'
Steven Fletcher is down injured at the moment, he fell awkwardly after challenging for a ball in the air with Ben Davies. Seems to have gone over his ankle, bad start for Strachan.
  • 1'
Instantly Wales all over Scotland, Bale almost threading a pass through the defence before Ramsey went close. A foul in the box gives the Scots some early respite.
  • 1'
Wales get us underway at Hampden Park!
  • The national anthems are getting belted out now, currently a superbly rousing rendition of Flower of Scotland by the wonderful Amy MacDonald.
  • The last game between this sides was a belter, Gareth Bale scoring twice (one from a penalty earned by a dubious dive) to give Wales a 2-1 win after James Morrison scored for the Scots. Morrison withdrew from this game through injury, as did Danny Fox, Ross McCormack and James Forrest.
  • Wales look set for a 4-2-3-1 system as well: Myhill; Gunter, Ricketts, A Williams, Davies; Ramsey, Ledley; Collison, Bale, Robson-Kanu; Bellamy. Substitutes are *deep intake of breath*: Price, Lynch, Richards, Collins, King, Vaughan, Church, Vokes, J Williams, Easter, Nyatanga, Fon Williams.
  • Team news: This is Gordon Strachan's first competitive game as Scotland boss and he's chosen an adventurous side. Lining up in an expected 4-2-3-1 are: McGregor; Hutton, Caldwell, Hanley, Mulgrew; Dorrans, McArthur; Burke, Maloney, Snodgrass; S Fletcher. On the bench are Gilks, Mackay-Steven, Whittaker, Webster, Adam, Naismith, Miller, Commons, Rhodes, Bannan, Martin and Marshall. Oh so many subs.
  • Good evening Goalers, my name is Scott Binnie and I will be providing the play-by-play from the Celtic Crunch Clash between Scotland and Wales in World Cup Qualifying Group A. This is the second meeting between the sides in the group after a certain Tottenham player scored twice late on to give Wales a 2-1 win in Cardiff.
