Live Commentary

  • That's all that we've got time for in today's late Bundesliga kick-off, which saw Schalke lose to Bayern once again in the league, by a score of four goals to nil. I've been Simon Harrison, and I hope that you'll all tune in again next time.
  • Following a good start, which saw Kevin-Prince Boateng go close on two occasions, a two minute double salvo on 21 minutes saw Bayern race clear, with the rest of the game a mere formality against a disheartened Schalke outfit.
  • Goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Mandzukic, Franck Ribery and Claudio Pizarro were enough for the visitors to run rampant against a toothless Schalke side, and there won't be too many positive words from Jens Keller after that performance.
  • There's the full time whistle! No added time whatsoever, as the fourth official appears to have taken sympathy on the home side. Bayern leave Gelsenkirchen after a 4-0 thrashing of Schalke, who offered very little despite a good start to the game.
  • 90'
We're approaching stoppage time, and one would think that the fourth official will want to award as little as possible. Schalke are labouring and defeated here.
  • 88'
The Schalke fans continue to put on a brave face, and they'll hope that their side will continue to fight until the end. Farfan whips in a cross, but Dante heads clears. If Huntelaar was playing, perhaps that style of direct play would be viable.
  • 87'
Bayern stroke the ball around composedly, and Schalke aren't even bothering to press, this isn't a contest whatsoever. Plenty of empty seats in the stadium now, as the home fans can no longer watch their side get dominated so resoundingly.
  • 86'
Five minutes to go, and this is certainly embarrassing now for the home side. They were so hopeful of stealing some spoils from Bayern after a great Champions League performance midweek, but it most certainly won't be happening now.
  • 84'
    Goal Claudio Pizarro
GOOOAL! PIZARRO! The Peruvian substitute scores, and a collection of Bayern players enjoy some kind of dance celebration! I don't think that will catch on. An easy tap in for Pizarro, after Muller squared it to him. Hildebrand was off his line, that's now 4-0!
  • 84'
    Assist Thomas Müller
  • 83'
Two corners in quick succession come to nothing, and it's looking increasingly more likely that Schalke will leave the field without a consolation goal. I dread to think of the scoreline is Bayern had a fully fit squad at their disposal.
  • 82'
Despite being three goals to the good, the relentless Bayern pressure continues, and Schalke really aren't being allowed anything. This is domination on a number of levels, but Schalke have a corner.
  • 81'
    Substitution Mario Mandzukic Claudio Pizarro
  • 80'
    Substitution Kevin-Prince Boateng Christian Clemens
  • 80'
With ten minutes left of this game, there's nothing that Schalke can really do, aside from rest their key men ahead of games where they're likely to pick up some points. The hosts look to be losing for the sixth straight time to Bayern in the league.
  • 79'
FARFAN! Kevin-Prince Boateng is found in space on the right, dispatching a cross in search of his Peruvian teammate, but Farfan can't win it in the air over Dante. Schalke continue to look rather toothless in front of goal.
  • 78'
    Substitution Bastian Schweinsteiger Jan Kirchhoff
  • 77'
SCHWEINSTEIGER! Ribery first shapes to take a shot, but slips the ball inside to Schweinsteiger, who attempts to shoot but has the ball robbed off his toe! That'll be his last contribution, he's substituted for Kirchhoff.
  • 76'
Good save from Neuer! Szalai goes through one on one, chasing a bouncing ball, but Neuer is quick off his line to acrobatically punch the ball clear of danger, before avoiding the onrushing Hungarian.
  • 75'
    Assist David Alaba
  • 75'
    Goal Franck Ribéry
GOOOAL! IT'S RUN IN BY RIBERY! Alaba is slipped in between Uchida and Howedes, before the Austrian stabs into the danger area for Ribery, who simply controls the ball into the back of the net!
  • 73'
    Substitution Arjen Robben Thomas Müller
  • 73'
AOGO! The full-back finds himself in an advanced area, and Schalke have yet another effort from range, but again it's wide of the target. With Szalai as a focal point, the hosts just simply can't play through the lines - thus they're limited to shots from distance.
  • 72'
DRAXLER! The youngster drives to the edge of the area, before trying his luck, but he won't want to see the replay of that! High and wide from the German, as uninspiring as he's been thus far.
  • 71'
Much has been said about the formation in which Bayern have set themselves up this season, but they've looked solid today. Another long ball from Jones comes to nothing, and Bayern gain possession yet again.
  • 69'
KEVIN-PRINCE BOATENG! Neuer watches the ball wide, as the Ghana international tries to place the ball across the Bayern goalkeeper and inside the far post! That was some way wide, but at least it's an effort for the home side.
  • 67'
A really tidy spell of possession for the Bundesliga champions, before Alaba looks to slip in Robben down the channel. He puts too much on his ball, however, and Hildebrand collects. The hosts are most certainly still firmly on the back foot.
  • 65'
Schweinsteiger looks to play the ball inbetween Matip and Aogo, in the hope of finding Robben in space on the right, but he gets it all wrong. Schalke break with Farfan, he centres and Szalai looks to be pushed by Dante, but the referee gives nothing!
  • 64'
Robben delivers a corner from the right hand side, but the referee delays proceedings due to pushing between Mandzukic and Kevin-Prince Boateng. The set piece is taken short to Alaba, who shoots from range, but gets it all wrong yet again. Terribly wide.
  • 62'
    Yellow Card Jefferson Agustin Farfán
  • 62'
The first bad challenge of today;s game, as Farfan catches Ribery in the stomach with a stray foot. The Frenchman collapses to the ground, and the Peruvian is rightfully very apologetic.
  • 61'
Hildebrand is forced into a save that he can't quite hold, but Bayern fail to capitalise on a spilled ball. Schalke break with Draxler, but the 20-year-old's ball is terrible, and it rolls through to Neuer.
  • 60'
Ribery releases Alaba down the left hand side, but the young left-back takes too long to pick out his cross, and the industrious Uchida gets back to block. There's a lull in the game at the moment, a goal would really spice up proceedings.
  • 59'
Schalke win a corner, as Rafinha blocks Aogo's cross, and the hosts have a chance to throw forward some aerial threats. A set piece is probably their best chance of converting, but Neuer punches clear. The ball is put back in immediately, but Kevin Prince-Boateng nods wide.
  • 57'
Lahm lifts a ball towards the back post, but Uchida manages to head away despite Dante lurking nearby. Not quite the ball that the Brazilian would have hoped for, it was far too close to the Japan international.
  • 55'
RIBERY! Robben slips through his French teammate, who gets to the byline before pulling the ball back to the penalty spot. Nobody is there though, in either colour of shirt, and the chance is wasted.
  • 54'
Bayern are entirely in control of this game, Guardiola may have expected Schalke to come out a little more gung-ho in the second half, but the hosts still haven't mustered up anything to trouble Neuer.
  • 53'
Schalke open play up to the right hand side nicely, but the Peruvian Farfan's looping cross heads out of play for a goal kick. Such a waste.
  • 52'
MANDZUKIC!A crossfield ball to Farfan looks to be troubling Alaba, but the Austrian controls the ball with his chest and moves possession on quickly to Lahm. Bayern break with Robben, who crosses to Mandzukic, but the Croatian blazes way over.
  • 50'
Uchida makes a good, brave header to prevent Robben from getting in behind the Schalke back four, but it's no time until Bayern are back in possession. The long balls forward just aren't sticking for the hosts.
  • 49'
A slow start to the second half, with Neuer already keen to squeeze every second out of this game that he can. Ribery then breaks, cutting inside and looking for a teammate, but Draxler tracks back well and intercepts.
  • 47'
Aogo delivers from the right hand side, after the hosts win a free-kick deep in opposition territory. It's a poor in-swinging delivery though, and it fails to even beat the first man. No dream start to the second half for Schalke!
  • 46'
    Substitution Roman Neustädter Marco Höger
  • 46'
We're back underway for the second half! Schalke will need a heroes' performance to turn this game around, with Bayern in full control before the break, but nothing is impossible! Hoger has taken to the field, at the expensive of the unimpressive Neustadter.
  • Revival doesn't look likely, but be sure to stick around for the second half of this game, as Guardiola's men look to ride out this game to stand them in good stead - following Dortmund's dropped points at Nurnberg earlier today.
  • The two Boateng half-brothers swap shirts at the half-time break, but I don't think that Kevin will be feeling quite as amicable as that action looked! Frustration is rife among the Schalke squad, with poor performances from Szalai, Matip and Neustadter particularly noticeable.
  • Though Schalke tested Neuer twice early on, with two good saves to deny Kevin Prince-Boateng, Bayern's double salvo of goals have knocked the self belief out of Keller's side. Since the second went in, the Bundesliga champions have dominated.
  • There goes the half time whistle! Bayern lead 2-0 at the break in Gelsenkirchen, thanks to goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Mandzukic. A comeback doesn't look imminent from the hosts, despite a solid start.
  • 45'
Aogo looks to find Szalai, but the left-back instead finds Jerome Boateng. Another poor ball from Schalke, they've been frustrating thus far in terms of cutting edge!
  • 44'
Bayern are happy to keep hold of possession, with Guardiola presumably keen to keep things tight until the half-time break. Gifting a goal to their opposition would be risky, as Schalke would take great belief from it.
  • 43'
Draxler breaks, exchanging possession with Boateng, but he doesn't get the return that he wanted, and the ball clatters into his heels rather than into the space ahead of him. Frustration compounded for Schalke.
  • 42'
RIBERY! He didn't catch that quite right! Hildebrand is glad to see the Frenchman's effort head straight towards his body, and he smothers simply. First effort that the winger has had.
  • 41'
Five minutes until the half time break, and Keller's men will need to try and pick up an unlikely breakthrough goal before the break, to be in a healthy position for the second 45 minutes.
  • 40'
MANDZUKIC! He shrugs his shoulders after firing wide from a ridiculously tight angle, he had no other options available. Hildebrand dived, but that was way wide from the goalscorer.
  • 39'
Poor ball from Szalai! The Hungarian looked to play the ball into the path of Draxler, but instead feeds the pass to Neuer. Excellent ball from Kevin-Prince Boateng to initiate the counter-attack, however.
  • 38'
RAFINHA! SO CLOSE! The former Schalke man whistles an effort past the post, after being picking out intelligently by Ribery! Hildebrand was merely a spectator, but was glad to see the ball go the right side of the woodwork.
  • 37'
The Gelsenkirchen side just cannot get hold of the ball. Bayern are probing and retaining the ball, with Lahm almost dropping in as a third centre-half, allowing for Rafinha and Alaba to get forward whenever possible.
  • 35'
Bayern continue to mercilessly dominate, winning a corner which comes to nothing. Guardiola's men are monopolising possession, with Schalke playing on the break. Farfan gets forward, beating Alaba for pace, but his cross is straight to Neuer.
  • 33'
Not the greatest ball from Draxler there! The recently turned 20-year-old looks to poke a ball down the line to the onrushing Kevin-Prince Boateng, but Rafinha intercepts. Schalke's golden boy not features as of yet.
  • 32'
A weaving run from Lahm is brought firmly to a halt by a careful interception from Matip, but the ball is cleared to a white shirt once again. Schalke can't escape their own half, any forward pass is to a Bayern player.
  • 31'
Half an hour gone, and Schalke look shellshocked. Ball retention has been poor for the home side, and every second ball is won by Bayern. The Bundesliga champions are already in cruise control, and I'm not too sure if Schalke can do anything about it.
  • 30'
Nothing comes of the corner, as a floated Lahm header is easy for Hildebrand to claim. Schalke are playing very direct now, and the ball isn't sticking to Szalai, giving Bayern a seemingly never-ending well of possession.
  • 29'
ROBBEN! CLOSE! The Dutch winger cuts inside, before sliding a lovely ball through for Ribery, who returns the favour with a cut-back from the byline! Robben gets the contact, but it's deflected behind for a corner!
  • 28'
Poor touch from Mandzukic! The goalscorer receives the ball to feet from Ribery, but it escapes him, allowing for Howedes to clear. Minus his goal, Mandzukic has barely contributed to this game.
  • 27'
The tables have well and truly turned. The stadium is quiet but for the chants of the travelling fans, and blue shirts are very deep already. Bayern are in control of this one now, that's for sure.
  • 26'
Good ball from Uchida, in search of Szalai, and Neuer is quick out of his six yard box to claim. Uchida might fancy the odd cross tonight, after his cross/shot conversion against Steaua midweek.
  • 25'
Guardiola is animatedly off his bench to slap the buttocks of Jerome Boateng, as the Germany centre-back covers across well to tackle Draxler! Novel encouragement!
  • 24'
Well, the hosts have thrown away a great opportunity! After a positive start and plenty of chances, Bayern have hit a double salvo that has knocked the stuffing out of both the home team and the home fans.
  • 22'
    Assist David Alaba
  • 22'
    Goal Mario Mandzukic
GOOOOAL! TWO IN TWO MINUTES! 0-2! MANDZUKIC! Ribery marauds down the left hand side, with Alaba overlapping, the cross is perfect, the jump is perfect and a combination of Hildebrand and Howedes can't keep it out!
  • 21'
    Assist Arjen Robben
  • 21'
    Goal Bastian Schweinsteiger
GOOOAL! SCHWEINSTEIGER! 0-1! Bayern take the lead as Schalke looked to just switch off! The corner is floating in, and the Germany international nods into the far corner beyond Uchida!
  • 20'
Excellent punch clear by Neuer, before Ribery is able to control and set up a counter attack! Mandzukic centres in search of Alaba, but Farfan manages to get back in and head clear! End to end stuff!
  • 19'
Jones breaking up play well, before the ball is worked out to the left hand side, where Aogo is able to win a corner off Rafinha. The home fans are chanting and jumping deafeningly, they're encouraged by the early signs in this game!
  • 18'
KROOS! Robben again feeds Kroos, who looked to lob Hildebrand and place the ball inside the back post, but it narrowly goes over. Plenty of reason for Schalke to be confident, they've got sensational pace on the break!
  • 17'
SZALAI! A wonderful break from Schalke comes to nothing! Kevin-Prince Boateng released Farfan wonderfully, before the winger centres dangerously for Szalai. He gets something on it, but it's not enough for the ball to bobble over the grounded Neuer!
  • 16'
DRAXLER! He's miles offside, and still can't finish! Farfan skips inside from the right, attempting a strike with his left foot, but it turns into a cross to Draxler at the back post. He fails to divert it home, but was at least eight yards offside, and the linesman has his flag up.
  • 15'
Still no clear cut chances for Bayern thus far, and Franck Ribery has seen very little of the ball thus far. We've got plenty of time left on the clock however, so expect the Frenchman to get involved at some point.
  • 14'
Risky defending there from Matip! The Cameroon centre-back almost gifts possession to Bayern in the centre of the park, suicidally, but manages to recover and look for Draxler with a sweeping pass.
  • 12'
KROOS! Robben gets to the byline, before unselfishly cutting the ball back to the corner of the box for his teammate. Kroos looks to bend the ball inside the near post, but fails to hit the target. Good effort, though.
  • 11'
Bayern settling into that metronomic rhythm that we associate with Guardiola's style of football, that is so hard to counter. Plenty of blue shirts are pressing into the away side's half though, in an attempt to make life difficult for the Bundesliga champions.
  • 10'
Manuel Neuer is receiving a rather hostile reception from the home fans, of course, due to his previous employment at the club. He's been the busier of the two goalkeepers so far though, and I think his current fans will be rather pleased that he's made two early saves to deny Prince Boateng.
  • 9'
ALABA! The Austrian tries his luck with a free-kick delivery from around 30 yards out, but gets it all wrong. Hildebrand can stand and watch as it harmlessly curling out of play.
  • 8'
Farfan is released on the right hand side, and his pace troubles Dante. The Peruvian cuts the ball back to Szalai from the right, but the Hungarian fluffs his lines and scuffs the ball into the path of Neuer!
  • 7'
Good defensive header from Neustadter! The holding midfielder rises well to clear a good Kroos free-kick delivery, and Bayern are thwarted. Not a bad start from the hosts!
  • 6'
Good save Neuer! The gangly Bayern goalkeeper has to get down smartly to his right to palm away Kevin-Prince Boateng's low drive! Schalke with the first opportunity of the game.
  • 5'
Good block! It looks as though K. Boateng was lining up a strong left-footed effort, but a great block on the edge of the area prevented Neuer being tested.
  • 3'
A slow start to the game, as the home side will presumably be more concerned with stopping Bayern from getting into their stride, than breaking themselves. Their could be room for exploitation down Bayern's right, as Rafinha isn't Guardiola's first choice right-back.
  • 2'
Bayern predictably having the early possession, with Jerome Boateng left rubbing his head following a clash with Szalai! No love for the Bayern man, despite his teammate Kevin-Prince being his brother.
  • 1'
We're underway, and what a cauldron of noise this stadium is becoming! Our referee Grafe gets things started, and we are off!
  • The teams are out, the stadium is bouncing, and this promising to be a feisty affair, if the on-pitch proceedings match those off of it. Schalke don their home strip, in blue shirts and white shorts, while the away side are white, with black shorts.
  • We're only a few minutes from kick-off, and the atmosphere is excellent! The stadium is awash with blue scarves, and the home fans will be hoping to act as that all-important 12th man! Schalke haven't beaten Bayern in a decade!
  • Five minutes until kick-off, and the statistics between these two sides don't making good reading for the Gelsenkirchen side. In their last six meetings, Bayern have come out on top every time, managing 19 goals to Schalke's lowly one. The home fans will hope to see a more impressive showing this afternoon.
  • Philip Lahm will once again be deployed in midfield for the visitors, as Guardiola determinedly sticks to his 4-1-4-1 formation. For Schalke, it seems to be a 4-2-3-1, with the trio of Draxler, Boateng and Farfan behind lone striker Szalai.
  • Bayern substitutes: Van Buyten, Shaqiri, Pizarro, Kirchhoff, Starke, Muller, Contento.
  • Bayern starting line-up: Neuer, Rafinha, Boateng, Dante, Alaba, Lahm, Robben, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Ribery, Mandzukic.
  • Schalke substitutes: Fahrmann, Santana, Meyer, Goretzka, Clemens, Hoger, Ayhan.
  • Schalke starting line-up: Hildebrand, Uchida, Howedes, Matip, Aogo, Neustadter, Jones, Draxler, Boateng, Farfan, Szalai.
  • After Borussia Dortmund could only manage a 1-1 away to Nurnberg in one of the earlier Bundesliga kick-offs, expect Guardiola's men to be very keen to close the gap on the early season league leaders. Schalke are looking for their third win of the season, but goals haven't been flowing for Keller's side.
  • Both sides have won comfortably in Champions League action, achieving the same 3-0 scoreline, but you can expect tonight's game to be closer than that. Bayern may be unbeaten and looking in rather good form of late, but Schalke can pose a threat at home, especially with the likes of Draxler, Boateng and Farfan.
  • Hello and welcome to live coverage of Bayern Munich's travel to Schalke, in the Bundesliga's late kick-off, as Pep Guardiola's men look to keep pace with the early season leaders Borussia Dortmund. The hosts will be high in confidence after a strong Champions League performance against Steau midweek.
