The German number one had a decent game and could not have done much better for the Leverkusen goal. Made several impressive stops including one from a Derdiyok free-kick just before half-time.
Good game for the Japanese right back. Was untroubled for the majority of the game which allowed him to venture forwards. Came close to opening the scoring in the first-half.
The left-back played well in the first half, solid defensively and always looked to attack. Unfortunate to come off at half-time through injury.
The defender did put in some decent challenges but his lack of pace was a problem for Schalke, in particular the second-half when Sam entered the game. Beaten easily for Leverkusen's goal.
Like Metzelder Hoewedes was also outpaced by Leverkusen's pacey attack. Helmes left him for dead twice in the first half. Continues to struggle this season.
The winger looked lively throughout and will leave the game feeling slightly aggrieved not to have at least one assist after Huntelaar twice hit the woodwork from fantastic crosses.
Decent game from the versatile midfielder but faded as the contest went on which led to his substitution with 20 minutes to go. Played the ball simple and particularly looked good in the first-half.
The Spaniard has started to settle into the Schalke team in recent weeks but was disappointing tonight. Failed to get himself on the ball often enough and because of this was unable to provide the killer ball for Huntelaar and Raul.
Quiet game for the Croatian international. Struggled to impose himself on the game and his only telling contributions were shots from long range which were dealt with by Adler fairly comfortably.
The veteran had one of his poorest games in a Schalke shirt. Did nothing of note and will need to improve if his club are to get out of the predicament they currently find themselves in.
The Dutch striker had a good game for the home side. Very unlucky not to have at least one goal after hitting the woodwork twice. Was a constant nuisance for the Leverkusen defence in the air.
The German number two slightly edged the battle between himself and Neuer. Made several great saves and fully deserved his clean sheet.
The experienced centre-half coped well at the back and made several telling interceptions. Looked close to his best.
Not a great game for the Czech defender. Struggled with the pace and trickery of Farfan who always had the beating of the left-back.
The right-back is in very good form of late, solid defensively and dangerous on the attack, especially with hs fantastic delivery.
Really struggling for form at the moment. Failed to impose himself on the game in the first period and was unsurprisingly replaced at half-time for Sam.
The Chilean midfielder was not at his best but still played a big part in Leverkusen's victory. Got stuck in well and his passing was of good quality.
Fantastic performance by the cental midfielder. Looked a class above his Schalke counterparts and played one of the balls of the weekend to provide Sam with his goal.
Average game for the squad player. Did a decent job in midfield and was full of running.
Good game for the versatile defender/midfielder. Coped well with Huntelaar for the majority of the game but was often beaten in the air.
Played fairly well and was always looking to link up play with the midfield. Needs to be getting into better goalscoring positions.
The striker looked decent in the first half and made a few runs which troubled Hoewedes in particular. Still struggling for fitness as he was replaced for the second-half.

The young midfielder replaced Schmitz at half-time and had a poor game, eventually finding himself replaced with five minutes to go as Schalke desperately searched for an equaliser.
- 14 K. Papadopoulos
- 27 C. Deac
- 28 C. Moritz
Struggled to get involved in the game and will need to provide more if he wants to stay in Magath's plans.
The Swiss striker came on for the final five minutes but was unable to get into the game as Schalke lost once again.
- 22 B. Fernandez
The captain played the second-half and played a big role in helping Leverusen retain more possession. Getting back to his best.
- 28 B. Kaplan
Man of the match. Came on for the second half and was an absolute terror for the Leverkusen defence on the eve of Halloween. Took his goal brilliantly was full of running. Surely in line for a call-up to the national side in this form?
