Louis van Gaal had hoped that Arjen Robben would be available for his Netherlands squad as it travels to face Romania, but the Bayern Munich winger did not prove his fitness in time, and Eljero Elia has been called up in his place.

Daryl Janmaat is likely to relinquish his spot in defense to Ajax's Ricardo van Rhijn, while Luciano Narsingh should join the attack ahead of Ruben Schaken.

The home side, who have recorded nine points out of nine in Group D so far, are fresh from a stunning win in Turkey thanks to Gheorghe Grozav's first-half goal, and the striker looks set to retain his position in attack.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • Romania hasn't qualified for the World Cup finals since 1998, where it beat England but was eventually eliminated by Croatia in the round of 16.
  • The furthest it has ever went in the competitions was in 1994, where a Gheorge Hagi-inspired side defeated Argentina en route to the quarterfinals.

  • Romania is yet to concede a goal in Group D, recording a 2-0 win over Estonia and a 4-0 triumph over Andorra before taking the scalp of Turkey on Friday.
  • Netherlands will be looking for its fourth consecutive victory in order to retain their 100 percent record in World Cup qualifying Group D.

  • The Oranje may have won their last three qualifiers, but had lost four consecutive matches prior to that, stretching back to Euro 2012.

  • When the sides last met in qualifying in 2007, Romania came out on top, Dorin Goian netting the only goal of the contest.
