F. Totti 58'
Napoli have the chance to close the gap on Juventus to two points when they take on Sampdoria tomorrow afternoon. The Bianconeri return to Serie A action next Sunday when they host Siena whilst Roma look to secure back-to-back wins when they travel to Atalanta. Thanks for joining me, Max Bentley, on what could prove to be a pivotal moment in the Scudetto race as Totti's thunderbolt gives Roma their first win at the Olimpico over Juventus in eight meetings. Good night.
That result was only Roma's fourth clean sheet of the season and it comes against the division's highest goalscorers. Can that result kickstart their season and propel them back up into the European places? The Roma players show how much it means as they continue their celebrations on the pitch.
FULL TIME: ROMA 1 - 0 JUVENTUS. Antonio Conte's side miss the chance to go eight points clear at the top of Serie A as Roma claim a first victory in the post-Zeman era courtesy of Francesco Totti's stunning strike. In truth, Andreazzoli's side deserved the victory and the margin could have been greater were it not for the display of Gianluigi Buffon. Juventus certainly seemed lacklustre after their Champions League performance in midweek and crash to their fourth Serie A defeat this season.
90' + 4'
Juventus win a corner but Gianluca Rocchi does not allow Pirlo to take it and blows the final whistle. The Bianconeri players surround the referee, they are furious.
90' + 3'
Yellow CardAndrea Pirlo
90' + 3'
Pirlo picks up a late booking for a mistimed tackle on Lamela.
90' + 3'
Roma work the ball well from left to right but Torosidis can only fire straight at Buffon when he is played in on the right by Bradley. One minute remanining.
90' + 2'
Roma look to run down the clock by holding the ball in the corner and the three points edge closer after Lichtsteiner concedes a silly foul for a challenge on Lamela.
HOW HAVE ROMA NOT WRAPPED THIS GAME UP? Osvaldo launches yet another counterattack and feeds an inch-perfect pass into the path of Torosidis who cannot find the bottom corner with his shot across goal. There will be four minutes of stoppage time.
Standing ovation for Francesco Totti as he is replaced by Alessandro Florenzi. Ultimate captain's performance from the 36-year-old this evening.
Roma have the chance to wrap it up when Osvaldo bundles his way to the byline but the striker cannot pick out a teammate with his cutback. Three minutes.
Juventus are probing for an equaliser but they have not really tested Stekelenburg's goal. Anelka slips a neat pass into the path of Giovinco but the diminuitive striker takes a wild swipe at the ball and completely misses it. Four minutes remaining.
Marquinhos has made some brilliant challenges tonight and the 18-year-old comes to Roma's aid again to steal the ball away from Pogba in a promising area.
Balzaretti makes his long-awaited return from injury to replace Marquinho. Solid performance from the Brazilian tonight.
Lichtsteiner has not seen as much of the ball in this second half but he receives it on the right this time and whips a wonderful low cross into the box, but there is no Juventus shirt gambling at the front post and Stekelenburg claims.
Lamela plays a searching pass behind the Bianconeri defence for Osvaldo but the striker is denied a route on goal by a solid challenge from the backtracking Caceres. Osvaldo is looking a bit leggy out there. Ten minutes remaining, can Roma hang on and secure a vital three points?
LICHTSTEINER TO THE RESCUE! Totti has led by example in this second half and he fizzes a wonderful low cross into the box which is parried by the goalkeeper into the path of Marquinho and the Brazilian is denied a goal by a brave block by the Swiss wing-back. Juventus are somehow still in this.
Juventus are committing bodies forward and Roma launch another counterattack with Totti slotting the ball through for Osvaldo but the striker is denied his twelfth league goal of the season by a wonderful save by Buffon.
Giovinco is now occupying a wide right position and he wriggles past his marker before crossing the ball into the box, but Burdisso rises above Matri to head clear.
Giovinco and Padoin have failed to make an impression since coming on for the Bianconeri and Stekelenburg has hardly been tested in this second period. Who can provide that little piece of magic for Conte's side? 17 minutes remaining.
Arturo Vidal has not enjoyed one of his finer performances this evening and the Chilean midfielder is replaced by Nicolas Anelka. Can the French striker salvage something for Conte's side?
Erik Lamela produces a splendid piece of skill to dip past the challenge of Bonucci and Caceres but he tries to do too much and dribble around Barzagli when he could have shot with his right foot. Will Roma rue these missed opportunities?
Andreazzoli makes his first change, replacing the impressive Miralem Pjanic with American holding-midfielder Michael Bradley.
Totti curls a wonderful corner into the heart of the Juventus box but Lamela cannot turn the ball home at the far post after a flick-on. Juventus look rattled here.
IT SHOULD BE 2-0! Roma launch a lighting-quick counterattack with Osvaldo who picks out Totti at the back post and the goalscorer chips the ball back for De Rossi who fluffs his volley in the Juventus penalty box. The net should have been bulging there.
Matri produces a wonderful flick with his chest to divert Pogba's cross into the path of Giovinco, but the forward is denied a strike on goal by a last-ditch clearance from Marquinhos.
Roma's tails are up and they nearly double their lead when Osvaldo exchanges passes with Lamela and just as the Argentine is about to pull the trigger, he takes a heavy touch allowing Caceres to clear upfield.
Yellow CardAlessandro Matri
Alessandro Matri picks up a caution for a mistimed tackle on Nicolas Burdisso.
WHAT A FANTASTIC GOAL FROM FRANCESCO TOTTI! Pjanic smashes a low freekick at goal which strikes the Juventus wall and rebounds to Totti and the Roma goldenboy sends an absolute rocket of a shot into the top left-hand corner from outside the box. Buffon hardly saw it. Wonderful goal from the Giallorossi skipper, that's how you hit a ball!
GREAT SAVE FROM BUFFON! Pjanic has started the half excellently and he swings in an inch-perfect cross for Osvaldo who is denied what seems a certain goal by a superb reflex stop from Buffon.
Double substitution for Juventus as Giovinco and Padoin join the action in place of Vucinic and Asamoah. Can Conte's tactical nous swing this game in Juve's favour?
Pirlo's corner is easily claimed by Stekelenburg. Giovinco strips off on the touchline.
Pogba splits the Roma backline with a neat slide pass but Matri cannot beat Stekelenburg at his near post and the ball is turned behind for a corner.
Miralem Pjanic unleashes a brilliant swerving strike from the edge of the box which forces an equally impressive save from Buffon down low to his right. Fantastic start to this second half.
Yellow CardStephan Lichtsteiner
Lichtsteiner is the first Juventus player in the book after hauling down Marquinho.
SO CLOSE FOR VUCINIC! Pogba uses his strength to be a nuisance in the Roma area, flicking the ball to the edge of the box for Vucinic and the Montenegrin comes within inches of scoring against his former club as his fizzing volley flashes marginally wide with Stekelenburg scrambling.
Totti slides a glorious pass into the run of Osvaldo but the striker cannot prod the ball home on the stretch and Buffon watches the ball bobble past the far post.
Marquinho and Osvaldo look to link up once again but Bonucci shows great positional awareness to cut out the Brazilian's through-ball.
Juventus get the second half underway. Plenty of players warming up on the touchline.
Roma have not beaten Juventus at the Olimpico in their previous seven attempts. Can they find the breakthrough in the second half? Let me know your thoughts via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
Juventus have struggled to create chances and perhaps there are a few tired legs out there after that midweek Champions League victory over Celtic. Plenty for both managers to ponder over the interval.
Aurelio Andreazzoli will be happy with his side's first-half performance and the Giallorossi have certainly done a good job in preventing service to Matri and Vucinic up front. Erik Lamela will be looking to make more of an impression in the second period.
HALF TIME: ROMA 0 - 0 JUVENTUS. Not quite the goal-filled encounter that was anticipated. Andrea Pirlo went the closing to breaking the deadlock when his freekick was brilliantly saved by Maarten Stekelenburg and there has been a real lack of penetration in the final third for both sides. Defences on top at the moment, all square at the break.
Vucinic looks to bring down a lofted pass from Vidal but the Montenegrin striker has the ball stolen off his toes by Burdisso. Good defensive performance from Andreazzoli's men so far.
Roma are playing a very high offside trap this evening and it is working to good effect so far as Matri is once again flagged offside. The in-form strike partnership of Matri and Vucinic have done little to impress so far.
Roma engage in some neat passing around the Juventus box but Bonucci once again proves too big an obstacle as he cuts out Osvaldo's lofted pass for Lamela.
Marquinho flicks a wonderful pass behind the Juve defence into the path of Osvaldo, but the Azzurri striker is denied by the linesman's flag.
Leonardo Bonucci gets himself in an excellent position to prevent Osvaldo from latching onto Lamela's dangerous cross from the right. Not quite the goal-fest we anticipated.
Both sides lacking that cutting edge in the final third at the moment. Who can provide that little bit of magic to break the deadlock? Just under ten minutes remaining until the break.
Osvaldo capitalises on a loose ball on the edge of the Bianconeri box but snatches at his effort and watches it sky over the crossbar. Pirlo jogs gingerly back onto the pitch.
Pirlo has a large gash on his knee and continues to receive treatment off the pitch. That would be a big blow for Juventus if he couldn't continue.
Yellow CardFrancesco Totti
Concern etched on the Juventus faces as Andrea Pirlo receives lengthy treatment after a late challenge from Francesco Totti. Both Totti and De Rossi will be now be suspended for the trip to Atalanta.
Paul Pogba can certainly hit them but this is not one of his better efforts as he sees his curling strike from 20 yards comfortably collected by Stekelenburg.
Osvaldo does well to pick out Totti on the edge of the box but the evergreen forward opts to drift a cross to the back post instead of shooting and the chance breaks down.
Alessandro Matri has hardly seen the ball in the opening 28 minutes. The 28-year-old has notched a goal in each of his last three games.
Pirlo uncharacteristically loses possession deep inside his own half and with a promising two-on-two scenario, Osvaldo misplaces his pass to Totti. Real lack of confidence from the Roma talisman there as a good chance goes begging.
Pogba looks to loft the ball over the Roma defence for Vucinic but the former-Giallorossi striker cannot bring the ball under his control. Boos ring out for the Montenegrin.
We have not seen too much of Kwadwo Asamoah on his return from the African Cup of Nations but Lichtsteiner on the opposite flank is seeing plenty of the ball. The Swiss wing-back looks to whip in another cross from the right but Vidal's through ball is well anticipated by Marquinhos.
Juventus are beginning to step it up here and they nearly break the deadlock when Vucinic lays the ball back for Pirlo, but his low-struck effort is blocked by Piris.
SO CLOSE FROM PIRLO! The veteran midfielder curls the ball over the wall and it looks to be sneaking into the bottom corner only to be prevented by the outstretched arm of the Dutch goalkeeper. Fine save.
Yellow CardDaniele De Rossi
Daniele De Rossi picks up the first booking of the game for a late scissored challenge on Stephan Lichtsteiner. This is a good position for Pirlo to test Stekelenburg.
Lichtsteiner is having plenty of joy down the right and he gets in behind Marquinho once again but cannot find a black and white shirt with his pullback.
Lichtsteiner whips a teasing low cross into the box and it requires a wonderful last-ditch tackle from Marquinhos to prevent Matri from converting from close range.
Juventus demand a penalty as they feel the corner strikes the hand of De Rossi in the box. Referee Gianluca Rocchi waves play on.
Juventus attack down the other end with Vucinic laying the ball back for Lichtsteiner whose deflected shot flashes wide for a corner.
Miralem Pjanic splits the Bianconeri defence with an incisive pass but Osvaldo cannot find the back of the net from an acute angle after rounding Buffon. Warning sign for Juve.
Juventus are just beginning to settle into their rhythm after a sustained spell of possession. Andrea Pirlo opts to shoot from distance but sees his ambitious strike fly high over the crossbar.
Totti finds Osvaldo in space on the left touchline and the Italian striker cuts inside Barzagli before seeing his well-struck effort saved by Buffon.
Roma force the first corner of the match which Marquinho opts to cut back to the edge of the box for Miralem Pjanic, but the Bosnian's shot slices well wide of Buffon's goal.
Paul Pogba looks to lift the ball over the Roma defence for Lichtsteiner but his cross is well cut out by Nicolas Burdisso. Good tempo to this match.
Good pressure early on from Andreazzoli's side. Osvaldo finds space inside the Juventus box but his shot is quickly closed down by Stephan Lichtsteiner and Gianluigi Buffon claims comfortably.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo tries his luck on goal from the edge of the box but watches his effort drag wide of Buffon's right-hand post.
Francesco Totti looks to send Erik Lamela away early down the left but the in-form Argentine winger is prevented a route to goal by a crucial interception from Andrea Barzagli.
Roma get the ball rolling!
Antonio Conte is also back in the dugout tonight. The Juve coach was suspended for the last two Serie A matches after comments he made to the official in the controversial 1-1 draw with Genoa earlier this month.
A wonderful atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico as captains Francesco Totti and Gianluigi Buffon lead the teams onto the field. Prepare for kick-off!
Roma have only been able to secure one victory in their last 15 Serie A encounters against Juventus, back in February 2004.
Juventus thumped the Giallorossi 4-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season, with Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal, Alessandro Matri and Sebastian Giovinco getting on the scoresheet.
Having missed a crucial penalty against Sampdoria last week, Osvaldo has been the subject of violent protests from fans all week, who pelted his car with eggs after a training session. Can the Italian international redeem himself tonight? He is the Giallorossi's joint-top goalscorer in Serie A, with Erik Lamela, on 11 goals.
As for Juventus, Kwadwo Asamoah returns to the starting lineup having returned from international duty with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations and he replaces the suspended Federico Peluso. Claudio Marchisio is also suspended after picking up his fourth yellow card of the season in last week's 2-0 win over Fiorentina, meaning that Paul Pogba is handed another chance to impress. Having both found the net in the Bianconeri's last two matches, Mirko Vucinic and Alessandro Matri once again lead the front line.
Andreazzoli once again opts for a three-man defence with Ivan Piris coming in to replace the injured Leonardo Castan. Pablo Daniel Osvaldo and Daniele De Rossi have both shaken off knocks to start against the Italian champions but the game comes too soon for Dodo and Federico Balzaretti. Maarten Stekelenburg retains his place between the sticks.
JUVENTUS (3-5-2): Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Caceres, Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Asamoah; Matri, Vucinic.
ROMA (3-4-2-1): Stekelenburg; Piris, Burdisso, Marquinhos; Torosidis, De Rossi, Pjanic, Marquinho; Lamela, Totti; Osvaldo.
However, Roma have also conceded the second-most in the division (45) whilst Conte's side have the best defensive record (16).
Expect plenty of goals tonight! These two sides are Serie A’s top scorers, with 100 goals shared evenly between them.
Juventus can go eight points clear of second-placed Napoli with victory this evening but they face a tricky test away to Roma who are still settling into life in the post-Zeman era. Aurelio Andreazzoli has been burdened with the task of trying to claw the capital side back into the European places but his reign did not get off to the best start last weekend when the Giallorossi were defeated 3-1 at the hands of Sampdoria. Can he inspire his players to a first league victory of 2013 this evening? Bringing you all the action from the Stadio Olimpico, my name is Max Bentley. Feel free to let me know your thoughts and predictions on the Serie A clash via Twitter @MaxBentley1.
