Real Salt Lake has never lost a home opener (3-0-4).
- RSL is unbeaten in five games against New York, four of those wins. Last year RSL won both league encounters by a combined 6-1 scoreline. Real also won both of preseason meetings with the Red Bulls, each with a 1-0 result.
- New York lost its season opener 2-1 to FC Dallas. Kenny Cooper came off the bench to score against his old club. Cooper is expected to start with Luke Rodgers still unable to enter the U.S. because of a visa issue and Juan Agudelo away with the U.S. U-23 squad.
- Rafael Marquez will serve the final match of his three-game suspension carried over from last season.
- The Lakers impressively won their season opener away against the LA Galaxy. After going a goal down, RSL roared back to score three, with rookie Sebastian Velasquez prompting the equalizer. Javier Morales came off the bench to score, and Fabian Espindola finished things off.
