MLS Preview: Real Salt Lake - New England Revolution

RSL will have World Cup call-ups Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando at its disposal in a match between slumping contenders.

Real Salt Lake and the New England Revolution have looked like MLS Cup contenders for much of the 2014 campaign — but not recently.

Missing U.S. World Cup call-ups Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando, as well as injured striker Alvaro Saborio, RSL (6-3-7) saw a 4-0 loss at Seattle on May 31 end its unbeaten start and begin an 0-3-1 stretch.

The Revolution (7-6-2), on the other hand, have lost three straight league matches after reeling off a five-game winning streak.

Although it remains to be seen if coach Jeff Cassar will risk rushing them back, Beckerman and Rimando will be at his disposal when RSL hosts the Revolution on Friday at Rio Tinto Stadium (10 p.m. ET, MLS Live). Rimando didn't see the field in Brazil, while Beckerman sat out the loss to Belgium on Tuesday after starting all three group stage matches.

In addition to Saborio (foot), RSL could again be without midfielder Ned Grabavoy (hip flexor).
