RSL put an end to its recent free-fall form, but it had a lot of help from the Revolution defenders.Real Salt Lake ended a two-game losing skid and picked up its first victory since May 17 with a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution, capitalizing on a pair of penalties.
Salt Lake's first penalty came in the 35th minute. Darrius Barnes was called for coming in low on Chris Shuler in a corner kick scrum, and Javier Morales dispatched from the spot.
New England was down just two minutes as Barnes made amends, diving to head home a Chris Tierney free kick.
Tierney was the Revolution player at fault for Salt Lake's next penalty. He was shown a yellow for tripping John Stertzer, and this time it was Joao Plata's turn to convert with a 65th minute strike.
