Nothing he could do for both goals. Had only one save to make besides those.
Just what he was thinking in the build-up to the opener is anyone's guess. Aside from that mistake and couple of nervy moments in the first half, he was pretty solid at the back.
Was not at the right place for Ruben's strike, but this is minor black mark on a brilliant performance from the Brazilian. Had some trouble with Cazorla, but was a much bigger menace for Villarreal as Angel struggled to contain the dynamic left back. Put in a few wonderful crosses and made a couple of brilliant runs down the left.
Tripped over himself in a hilarious way in the 74th minute and blasted a horrible shot over the bar in the 64th. Aside from these two accidents, he was sound defensively and active in attack.
Caught by surprise for Villarreal's second and was not his reliable self in the first half. Improved drastically after the break to finish the game on a high note. Forced to play on his own in the centre of defence from the 70th minute on.
Sources say he will not be transferred this winter, but after a performance like this the rumours will start circulating again. Very poor in the centre of the pitch and chased shadows for most of the first half. One of the main reasons for Villarreal's wonderful play before the break. Replaced by Sami Khedira.
Sub-par tonight, aside from his assist for Ronaldo's second. Overran in midfield in the first half and was more much more comfortable with Khedira by his side. Improved after the break, but did not really steal the show.
Provided the assist for Ronaldo's first and was easily Los Blancos' best attacker in the first half. His level of performance dropped after the break.
Á. di María
Very threatening down the flank, but struggled with his final ball tonight. Had a few good runs, but his decisions let him down at the last hurdle.
Scored three and provided an assist. Missed a great chance in the 64th minute, but redeemed himself later on. When Los Blancos were in need, he provided. Man of the match hands down.
Wonderful flick for Oezil in the build-up to Cristiano Ronaldo's first and this was pretty much all from him tonight. Fairly anonymous tonight and was caught in an offside position in the early minutes more often than Jose Mourinho would have liked.
Made a string of fine saves tonight and you would expect he would have saved Ronaldo's second and third. Still, he had a decent game.
Struggled against Di Maria tonight. Offered fairly little in attack and was nowhere to be seen in the build-up to Real Madrid's third.
The better of the two centre-halves, but could have done better for Ronaldo's third and probably for the Portuguese ace's second. Did not organize the defence well.
Tried his best against Ronaldo and Marcelo, and actually managed to do well until he was forced off with an injury. Offered virtually nothing in attack.
His second start in La Liga did not go very well. Three of four goals came from his zone. Enough said.
Delightful finish for Villarreal's first and aside from a fine pass in the 22nd minute, the ex-Real Zaragoza man offered fairly little. Sent off from the bench after threatening to hit Jose Mourinho with a bottle of water.
A delightful through ball for Villarreal's second and very strong in the first half as he bossed the midfield. Found it much tougher against Khedira in the second half.
Simply unplayable at times in the first half. Went close in the 2nd minute and played a key role in Villarreal's first. Had a wonderful run in the 36th minute and caused much trouble for Marcelo and the others from Real Madrid's defence. His level of performance dropped after the break.
Showed some great touches in the first half as he dictated the game well and spread the ball around nicely. Had a hard time once Khedira entered the pitch, but still did well and played a few good passes.
Aside from a nice flick for Cani's goal, the Italy international contributed precious little. To be honest, he was not granted with any gilt-edged chances either, but could have done better to create some himself as he has a reputation to maintain.
Nice lobbed finish for Villarreal's second and looked lively in the first half, but was eventually replaced by Mateo Musacchio as he tired. Still, he had a good game upfront.
- 19 E. Garay
Scored a fine goal, but still looks short on fitness. Made a few good passes as well.
- 11 Granero
One can go as far as calling him the man who turned the game around. Showed real bite in midfield tonight and bossed the centre of the pitch. Great tackle on Rossi in the 53rd minute.
- 21 Pedro León
- 25 Juan Carlos
Replaced Cani. Aside from wasting a good chance a minute after coming on, one could hardly tell if he was on the pitch.
The defender did not really steal the show after coming on for Ruben. Looked insecure against Ronaldo and Kaka tonight.
Replaced Angel, but struggled against Cristiano Ronaldo. failing to stamp his authority on the right flank. Had a decent shot fly over the bar in the second minute of injury time.
