Álvaro Morata 3'
Sergio Ramos 12'
Full time in Santiago Bernabeu. First half strikes from Alvaro Morata and Sergio Ramos give Real Madrid a relatively comfortable victory over Rayo in La Liga. The visitors enjoyed a lot of possession in the match thanks to the first half dismissal of Ramos, but were unable to muster up a cluster of chances that would have had Los Blancos worried at the back. Professional performance from Jose Mourinho's men. I'm Martin Macdonald, thanks for joining us on Goal.com! See you next time!
Three minutes of stoppage time added on.
It doesn't look like we are going to get grandstand finish here. Madrid have done well in the second half to take the pace and tempo out of the game. Rayo have had chanced but have never looked likely to get two or three goals.
Coentrao whips a cross to the far post and Ronaldo leaps like a salmon to attempt to head towards goal. He doesn't make contact with the ball but manages to bundle over Jose Callejon, who also was looking to get on the end of the cross.
Coentrao earns a free kick just beside the corner flag. It didn't look like a foul but the Portuguese earns a free kick out of Lass.
Last throw of the dice from Rayo. Piti has came off for striker, Andrija Delibasic. Just under 10 minutes to go, let's see if they can make this an interesting finale!
Last change of the match from Real Madrid. Jose Callejon is called into action in place of Kaka, who has impressed tonight.
BAPTISTAO!!! Rayo are wasting glorious opportunities here!! Lass curls a teasing cross to the back post for his team-mate who fails to get a meaningful connection on his header despite having an open goal to aim at!
RAYO HIT THE POST!!! The free kick is whipped in and glances on at the near post. Dominguez comes in at the back post and hits the ball on the half-volley but it crashed off the bottom of the woodwork!
Yellow Card Pepe
Pepe receives his customary booking. The Portuguese blocks the path of Leo Baptistao down the right-hand side and finds himself in the referee's book.
Madrid should be 3-0 up!! Khedira breaks the offside trap and rounds Ruben and reverses a pass into the centre from the byline, but it is just the wrong side of Kaka, who was waiting for a tap in!
Another throw of the dice from the visitors. Roberto Trashorras comes off for Franco Vazquez. Another attacking change from Paco Jemez.
Not too many clear-cut chances to speak off in the second half. Rayo have really not took advantage of being a man up for the majority of the match.
Second change from Jose Mourinho. Mesut Ozil has come off to be replaced by Angel Di Maria.
Ángel Di María
KHEDIRA!! The ball breaks to the German at the back post and he looks to guide the ball into the far corner, but his attempt goes a foot beyond the post!
Superb challenge from Figueras!! Ozil cuts inside from the left and powers a strike towards goal, but the Rayo man makes a solid block on the line of the penalty area! That attempt was going places!
Yellow Card Cristiano Ronaldo
First change of the match from Rayo. Defender, Jose Casado, is withdrawn for attacker, Jose Carlos. Positive change from the visitors.
Ohhh unlucky Rayo!! Piti latches on to a loose ball inside the Madrid box and powers a left-footed strike towards goal, but his attempt is blocked by his own player, Leo Baptistao!
LASS!!! The Guinean shifts the ball on to his right-foot just inside the box and lashes a strike towards the near post, but it goes inches wide and into the side-netting! That certainly had Diego Lopez worried!
It's Ozil who takes it, though. The German looks to clip the ball over the wall but it remains solid to block the strike. Wasteful.
Free kick to Madrid in a very useful position. Fuego brings down Ozil 25 yards out. This is definitely Ronaldo territory.
Kaka drives forward at pace through the middle and pulls the trigger on the edge of the box. He ends up dragging his attempt just wide of the left-hand post.
Madrid have defended very well since the sending off of Ramos. They have been compact at the back and as a result, Rayo are struggling to find space in areas to create some attacks.
Kaka is only making his third league start of the campaign, but there is no signs of rust whatsoever. He has been very sharp this evening and looks really up for this!
Yellow Card Jordi Figueras
Great play from Ronaldo! The Portuguese displays superb strength and pace to fend off three tackles before looking to exchange a one-two with Khedira. However, as the pass returned to him , he was in an offside position.
Rayo should have a penalty kick! The ball is whipped into the Madrid box and looks to bounce off the arm of Fabio Coentrao!!
We are back under way!
Half time in Santiago Bernabeu. Early goals from Alvaro Morata and Sergio Ramos gave the hosts the lead, but the dismissal of the former Sevilla man has given Rayo belief. The visitors have had the majority of the possession and are certainly still in this game. An interesting second half in store! Join us in 15 minutes when the play returns!
Great chance passed up by Rayo!! Trashorras collects possession 12 yards from goal and has time to pick his spot but blasts his strike a few yards over the bar!! That was a real opportunity there!
Madrid haven't showed much of an attacking threat since Ramos' sending off. Apart from Ronaldo's shot from a tight angle they have had to be fairly concentrated on defending.
Yellow Card Tito
Brilliant tackle from Varane!! Leo looks poised to pull the trigger on the edge of the box but the young Frenchman comes in with a perfectly-timed challenge to win the ball. This young man just continues to impress!
Some afters between Pepe and Chori Dominguez. The Portuguese appeared to put his foot down on the back of the Rayo man. Only he will know if it was an accident or not.
Yellow Card Lass
Superb play again from Kaka! The former World Player of the Year showed fantastic acceleration down the left and leaves Tito for dead before sliding the ball across the park for Ozil. The move breaks down though and Rayo manage to clear.
Great play from Madrid!!! Ozil plays the ball round the corner of the Rayo defence for Ronaldo, who takes the ball beyond Ruben but can only manage to pass into the side-netting! It was a fairly tight angle but he perhaps should have scored!
Yellow Card Trashorras
First booking of the match for Rayo. Trashorras is robbed of the ball in the centre by Khedira, and in his attempts to reclaim the ball, fouls the German.
First save of the match for Diego Lopez. Chori Dominguez juggles the ball on the edge of the box before striking a half-volley towards goal. Food and drink for the Madrid 'keeper, though, as it was straight down his throat.
The Rayo fans really are creating a racket in the Santiago Bernabeu! They are probably outmatched 20-1 in the stadium but it is the voices of the away fans that are being heard.
Piti takes the ball down sharply on the edge of the box before driving a left-footed strike towards goal, but his attempt goes a few yards over the bar and does not give Diego Lopez any problems.
Well, unfortunately for goalscorer, Morata, he is going to be withdrawn for Albiol. Unlucky for the youngster but it is needs must for Madrid after going a man down.
Raul Albiol hast started to strip off in the dug out. Who will the former Valencia man replace?
Rayo have definitely been on top since Ramos' dismissal. They are beginning to dictate the play in the middle of the park and pick out passes through the centre.
Lass shows his pace and gets to the Madrid byline, but Pepe comes in and clears the ball out for a corner. First corner kick of the match for Rayo.
Piti should be booked!! The Rayo man blatantly dives inside the box despite their being no contact anywhere near him! The referee fails to brandish the yellow card!
Yellow/Red Sergio Ramos
Ramos is sent off!! The Madrid captain is shown a second yellow card for a handball to the left of the box! Ladies and gents, that has to be one two of the softest bookings you will ever see!
Yellow Card Sergio Ramos
First yellow card of the match goes to Sergio Ramos. The Madrid man brings down Trashorras inside the centre circle. That looked a harsh booking.
Good save from Ruben!!! Michael Essien picks up the ball 25-yards out and has a crack at goal. The ball looks to be heading to the top corner but the Rayo 'keeper palms the ball away!
Great play from Leo Baptistao. He bullies Pepe of the ball on the right-hand side before bursting a gut to get down the wing. However, he has to turn back as he has next to no help inside the box.
Rayo need to get their act together, and quickly. Or else they may be turned over badly here!
Assist Mesut Özil
Goal Sergio Ramos
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!!! Ozil whips the free kick to the near post and Ramos, who won the free kick, bullets a header into the corner!! 2-0!
Free kick to Madrid in a great position. Sergio Ramos goes on a marauding run down the right but is upended by Casado just to the right of the Rayo box. Ozil will take the set-piece.
Good tackle from Trashorras. Morata is on the edge of the box just looking for an opening to have a crack at goal but the Rayo midfielder comes in with a perfectly-timed interception to send the ball back to Ruben in goal.
Inches wide from Chori Dominguez!!! The Rayo attackers breaks the Madrid offside trap before bursting forward and dragging a shot towards the bottom left corner, but it goes the wrong side of the post! A warning for Madrid there!
Kaka!!! Ronaldo picks out the Brazilian in the inside-right channel but he lashes his shot just wide of the right-hand post! Electric start from Madrid!
Fantastic play from Khedira. The German picks up a loose ball just outside his own box and drives at pace down the middle before sending Ozil down the right with a superb threaded pass. However, his compatriot's cross into the box is easily caught by Ruben.
Assist Mesut Özil
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAL FOR REAL MADRID!!! And it's Alvaro Morata!!! Kaka does brilliantly to drive through the centre and pick out Ozil in the inside-right channel. The German reverses a pass to the back post for the 20-year-old, who coolly passes home!! 1-0 Madrid!
Madrid almost go ahead immediately!! Ronaldo runs through on goal and lashes a strike wide of the right-hand post!! Luckily for the Portuguese, the linesman had his flag up for offside anyway.
We are under way at Santiago Bernabeu!
The players have took to the pitch now and we are just a few minutes from kick-off!
Both Madrid and Rayo like to play flowing, attacking football, so I think we are in for a treat tonight folks!
Also a very rare start for Kaka this evening. The Brazilian will surely be eager to show the world that he still has the potential to be a match winner.
So Castilla graduate, Alvaro Morata, is handed a start by Jose Mourinho this evening. How will the 20-year-old fair as the spearhead of Madrid's attack?
Rayo (4-2-3-1): Ruben; Tito, Galvez, Figueras, Casado; Javi Fuego, Trashorras; Chori, Piti, Leo, Lass.
Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Ramos, Pepe, Varane, Coentrao; Essien, Khedira; Ozil, Kaka, Ronaldo; Morata.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action this evening!
