Pulled off some good saves in the first half and cannot be blamed for Llorente's strike. Virtually a spectator after the break.
Looked somewhat lacking confidence in front of goal, but his penalty will sure help fix that. Could have done better in the build-up to Athletic Bilbao's goal, but was otherwise solid.
Restrained himself from getting too much forward, but still had some troubles defensively with Susaeta and Iraola. Admittedly, he was always going to have problems with the visitors pumping bodies down his flank. Improved greatly after the break.
Probably his worst game for Los Blancos so far. Too easily bypassed by Llorente in the third minute and looked a little bit too emotional, even reckless at times. Not typical of a cool head like his.
Struggled a little bit in the first 20 minutes, but picked up his game and was rock-solid to the final whistle. Made a great clearance to deny Llorente a goal off the line in the third minute.
Sprayed the ball superbly and showed real bite in midfield. Orchestrated the play well from the back.
Very good game from the midfielder, but still he looked a little isolated from the action tonight. Great first-time pass for Ronaldo's first.
Á. Di María
A solid performance from the winger. Provided the assist for the opener and looked dangerous whenever on the ball. His shameful dive for Ramos' penalty takes some shine off his performance.
A typical Khedira performance. Solid in possession, much running and great tackling. Substituted in midway through the second half.
Did what was asked of him tonight. Took his only real chance with aplomb and Jose Mourinho will be pleased with his clinical contribution. Looked somewhat isolated after the break and was replaced in the second half.
Bagged a hat-trick and was unstoppable yet again. He was impeccable in every department tonight. Took his first goal well, scored a nice free-kick and put away the penalty in injury time with confidence. Even his diving was top-notch - especially for San Jose's yellow card in the second half.
Conceded five goals and while he could not have done anything to prevent the second, third and fifth, he really should have done better for Higuain's opener and especially for Ronaldo's free-kick, when he completely misjudged the situation.
His positioning let him down quite a few times and he struggled to contain Real Madrid's vibrant attack tonight. Replaced at half-time.
Poorly positioned for Real Madrid's second, and somewhat could not keep his cool tonight. Had troubles with Ronaldo and Higuain, but still was more stable in central defence than his partner.
Athletic's best defender by some distance. Very active in attack, and while he struggled with Ronaldo at times, he looked stable in defence.
At fault for two goals tonight. Conceded the free-kick for Ronaldo's second and gave away a penalty in injury time. Offered precious little in attack. A night to forget for the defender, who was played out of position at left-back and then switched to central defence.
Provided the assist for Llorente's goal and that was that for him in the game. Looked isolated from the match.
Showed some good touches and passing, even hit the bar in the second half, but was lacking in a defensive sense. His work-rate was not up-to-standard.
Gave Marcelo a torrid time in the first half, but his level of play dropped after the break as he faded away completely in an attacking sense and conceded a penalty.
Put in some effort tonight, but it was not enough as Khedira and Alonso simply bossed the midfield. He fought hard, but could turn the tide of the game for his team.
The Basque Messi was very active, but struggled with his final ball. He is young and has much room for improvement, and his performance in this game was in no way bad, but nothing breathtaking either.
Athletic Bilbao's best player hands down. Fought valiantly upfront and could have recorded a brace, had it not been for Casillas. Gave Pepe and Carvalho lot to think about especially in the first half. Faded away a little after the break.
- 13 Raúl Fernández
Looked much more stable on the left than Amorebieta and even showed some good touches going forward.
- 19 Balenziaga
Entered the pitch with 15 minutes to the final whistle, but could not change anything in midfield.
Brought in to give firepower upfront, but failed to do so in his half-hour cameo.
