That's it from us after a stunning game. Thank you very much for following this LIVE! text commentary on what was an absolute cracker of a game. I've been Chris Teale and I need a lie-down. See you soon everybody.
What a brilliant game. That was absolutely exhausting, and a pleasure to watch with you all. Reading go four up, Arsenal come back and go 5-4 ahead. Reading equalise, then Arsenal find two more goals. Superb.
FULL-TIME, and it’s Arsenal who will be going to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup after a stunning comeback to win 6-5. They looked dead and buried at 4-0 down in the first half, but clawed their way back to take a superb victory. Reading must be concerned at their defensive frailties, as they yet again fail to keep a clean sheet and are unable to hold such a commanding position. Gunners fans can keep dreaming of Wembley, while fans of the Royals must be worried about their prospects for staying in the Premier League.
120' + 3'
GOAL!! Arsenal have sealed it! The ball is bouncing around all over the place and there is Chamakh to lob the ball over Federici who is off his line to seal the victory. 7-5, what a game this has been.
120' + 1'
GOAL!! HAS THEO WALCOTT WON IT? Arshavin fizzes in a low cross and after the ball deflects around, Walcott is there to score what could be the winner and break Reading hearts. What. A. Game.
Wow, that was close. Giroud rampages forward and sends in a shot from outside the box that goes narrowly wide.
Chance Arsenal! Straight away, Chamakh forces a decent save from Federici! This is now breathless, superb attacking football.
GOAL!!! READING ARE LEVEL!!! The cross comes in from Gunter and there is Pavel Pogrebnyak to head home. It's 5-5!
Yellow CardEmiliano Martínez
Arsenal starting to keep the ball a bit better now, perhaps already thinking about running the clock down.
Chance! Dangerous free kick comes in from Shorey and Martinez makes a wonderful reflex stop to prevent Sean Morrison's header from creeping in at the back post.
A corner comes in and Martinez flaps at it slightly, but the ball is headed well over the bar.
Walcott is through, but Federici manages to save his shot and prevent the Englishman scoring his hat-trick.
We're back already, with Reading getting the second half of extra time underway.
105' + 3'
Half-time in extra time. Arsenal are 5-4 up, but we have a brief moment to draw breath.
105' + 2'
105' + 1'
Long delay here as Miquel is taken off for what looks a combination of fatigue and a slight knock. He'll be replaced by Jernade Meade, who makes his senior debut for the Gunners.
It's Reading's turn to look shocked now, as they are behind for the first time. Real defensive problems for the Royals and manager Brian McDermott cannot believe what has happened.
GOA!!! The recovery is complete!!! Marouane Chamakh has a low shot from outside the box and it goes right past Federici into the Reading net! It's 5-4 Arsenal!
Arsenal look far, far better than they did. Their passing is crisp, their movement is fluid and they look more likely to break the deadlock here.
Reading are unable to get out of their own half at the moment and are inviting pressure from Arsenal. However, neither side can hold possession for too long.
It's turned into a bit of a battle now. Both teams are clearly tired after all their exertions.
Great run there from Walcott who tees up Arshavin. However, the Russian skews his shot well wide.
Great chance! Jobi McAnuff comes forward and keeps going before powering a shot in that is parried by Martinez.
Into extra time we go, then. Arsenal kick off after their superb comeback. What a game.
90' + 6'
GOAL!!! ARSENAL ARE LEVEL!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!! It's 4-4 and there was some controversy as the assistant referee did not think Walcott's shot crossed the line. However, Carl Jenkinson was on hand to make sure by powering home. Into extra time we go!
90' + 3'
90' + 1'
That was a glorious chance for Walcott. He jinks through, ghosts past Reading's defence and then sends his shot just wide by virtue of a deflection. This is getting tense.
Four minutes of stoppage time. How are your nerves, Reading fans?
GOAL!!! It's 4-3!!! Arsenal have nearly completed a famous comeback!!! The corner comes in, and there is Koscielny to send a powerful header home. Nervous times for the Royals lie ahead.
Yellow CardLaurent Koscielny
Free kick comes in from Shorey and Martinez looks slightly uncertain but is able to gather the ball and start another Arsenal attack.
The ball is bouncing around in Reading's penalty area, but Giroud cannot get it under control and the Royals clear the ball away.
It's getting a bit scrappy again as both sides look to lump the ball forward at any given opportunity.
Oh dear. Arshavin comes forward with confidence, but hacks his shot wide at the near post.
Corner for Arsenal and Giroud dives in but can't quite get the touch from Chamakh's flick on. They're piling on the pressure, but Reading refuse to buckle.
Yellow CardOlivier Giroud
Great save! Arshavin sends in the cross, Giroud has a header and it's clawed away brilliantly by Federici.
Another free kick for Arsenal, from a bit closer this time. Unfortunately, Giroud thumps it into his own man standing in the Reading wall. Again, a waste.
Great strike from Giroud and Federici can only parry the ball away, thankfully into the path of Nicky Shorey. The Frenchman has looked very good since coming on.
Yellow CardMikele Leigertwood
Walcott stands over a free kick, but blasts it over the bar from about 30 yards. What a waste.
The Gunners are starting to dominate possession. This is getting difficult for the Royals.
GOAL!!! It's 4-2!!! Have Arsenal started to gather some momentum? A corner comes in, and Olivier Giroud is there to head home brilliantly as the ball curves away from him in the air. The Gunners have definitely improved.
Arsenal are beginning to make more of an impression in the final third but still can't make Federici work any harder.
It's getting a bit stretched out there as Arsenal surge forward and then Reading counterattack. However, neither team's attacks bring any clear chances.
Yellow CardMarouane Chamakh
That should be a a penalty for Arsenal, but it's Chamakh who ends up in the book for what is deemed to be a dive, followed by a litte bit of shouting at the officials. Gunter definitely handled the ball there.
Carl Jenkinson drives in a cross from the right and Walcott gets a slight touch but sends it wide of the post. If he'd left it, Gnabry would have been there unmarked to sweep it home.
Great chance there from Gnabry, who wriggles through and sees his shot fizz wide of Federici's post.
Then, Arsenal go up the other end and Theo Walcott forces Federici into a decent stop at his near post from a tight angle.
Chance! Jason Roberts does brilliantly on the left and pulls it back to Leigertwood, who puts his shot over the bar. That could have been five.
Ouch. Johan Djourou has had enough of Jason Roberts making him look foolish and decides to scythe him down on the left. That looked painful.
Dear me, that was nearly another own goal for Arsenal. Reading feel they should have had a penalty, quite rightly, then the ball is played in and headed just over by Miquel. Not a great start for the Gunners.
We're back at the Madejski Stadium, with Reading kicking off.
HALF-TIME, and Reading are leading 4-1. I repeat, Reading are leading 4-1. It has been an unbelievable half of football at the Madejski Stadium, with the home side leading and looking like favourites already to go through to the next round. Arsenal, meanwhile, have been nothing short of terrible. Their passes have been poor, their movement has been non-existent and they have been unable to force a save of any real quality out of Adam Federici. They really need to improve although, having already conceded four, perhaps this game is already gone.
45' + 2'
GOAL!!! Could that be the start of a comeback? The ball is played through to Theo Walcott, who drifts between the defenders and dinks the ball over Federici to give the Gunners some hope.
Serge Gnabry surges forward from midfield and the expectation levels rise. However, his shot is deflected well over the bar by a Royals defender.
Arsenal break forward, Marouane Chamakh has a shot at goal, but Adam Federici gathers it with ease.
Arsenal come forward again, but just can't string enough passes together. This is looking a bit ugly for the Gunners.
GOAL!!! This is too good to be true, surely! It's 4-0 Reading! A cross comes in from McCleary, and there is Noel Hunt, rising high to head home. This is turning into a demolition.
Ignasi Miquel is booked for a late challenge on Garath McCleary, which leaves the Royals man writhing on the ground.
Sloppy pass from Arshavin that sums up Arsenal's half so far. They have looked very ordinary, then Noel Hunt goes up the other end and forces a good save from Martinez.
Theo Walcott looks to provide some attacking impetus with a cross from the right, but it's straight into Adam Federici's hands for a comfortable catch.
Arsenal seem very static, something that will leave Arsene Wenger tearing his hair out. He's said the Capital One Cup is not a priority, but he'll want a better performance than this.
The Gunners seem to have woken up suddenly and are exerting a bit of pressure on Reading's goal. However, they can't get through a crowd of Royals defenders and the ball is cleared.
Arsenal look absolutely stunned. There is no other way to describe it. Absolutely stunned.
GOAL!!! THIS IS UNREAL!!! It's 3-0 Reading! Mikele Leigertwood comes forward and fires in a shot that Damian Martinez tries to parry over the bar. However, the Argentine only manages to parry it into his own net, giving the Royals an incredible 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes.
Own GoalLaurent Koscielny
GOAL!!!! IT'S 2-0 READING!!! This is incredible! Chris Gunter goes on the overlap and sends in a fizzing cross that Laurent Koscielny can only turn into his own net. Brilliant from the home side, who double their lead.
The Reading fans are loving life at the moment, while Arsenal look slightly shell-shocked. However, the Royals haven't kept a clean sheet all season, so this game is not over by any means.
GOAL!!! IT'S 1-0 READING!!! Hal Robson-Kanu sends a wonderful cross in from the left, and Jason Roberts is there, ghosting past the defenders to slide the ball home. Great start for the home side.
Theo Walcott is already looking pacy as he out-runs Nicky Shorey for the ball and forces another corner. The left-back should really have got that, but was beaten to it by Walcott's speed.
Great goalkeeping from Martinez as he's out quickly to smother Jay Tabb's attempted shot after a great lay-off by the strong Jason Roberts.
Lobbed pass forward from Andrey Arshavin towards Theo Walcott, but Kaspars Gorkss manages to clear the ball for a corner to the Gunners.
Almost! Reading have another corner headed towards the goal by Sean Morrison. However, despite a deflection that nearly takes it in, the ball is cleared away by Damian Martinez with the help of the post.
Well, this has got interesting already. Arsenal give the ball away and Reading force a corner. However, it's cleared easily.
Here we go! Arsenal kick us off in the first half.
Here the teams come into the cauldron of noise that is the Madejski Stadium. Kick-off is just moments away. Hold onto your hats everybody.
All very exciting, as both sides ring the changes. That’s a very strong side for Reading, who make six changes, including the return of Adam Federici in goal. Meanwhile, Arsenal have a good blend of youth and experience, with a place in the starting line-up for the exciting youngster Serge Gnabry.
In the interests of balance, here’s Arsenal: Martinez; Jenkinson, Djourou, Miquel, Koscielny; Arshavin, Frimpong, Gnabry, Coquelin; Chamakh, Walcott.
“What are the teams?” I hear you ask. Well, I’ll tell you. Here’s Reading first: Federici; Gunter, Shorey, Gorkss, Morrison; Leigertwood, Tabb, McCleary, Robson-Kanu; Hunt, Roberts.
It’s not been that easy for Arsenal as well, although they find themselves sitting in sixth in the Premier League. However, with the return of Jack Wilshere recently, perhaps there are brighter times ahead for the Gunners. They have only played one game in the Capital One Cup, but it was a 6-1 demolition of Coventry City in the third round.
Well, it’s not been a good season in the Premier League so far for Reading. The Royals are without a league win and were unable to beat Fulham at home on Saturday despite scoring three goals at the Madejski Stadium. However, the Capital One Cup has offered some respite for Reading this season, with two 3-2 victories coming over Peterborough and then QPR.
Good evening and welcome to Goal.com’s LIVE! text commentary on this Capital One Cup clash between Reading and Arsenal. My name is Chris Teale, and I’m rather happy to be with you for this one.
