In for the suspended Tono, the goalkeeper claimed Cuenca's right-wing cross at the second time of asking early on. Parried Messi's free kick after that and made a low save to deny Cesc, but could do nothing about opening goal. Quick off his line to deny Messi later in the half, but went the wrong way for the penalty. Made a good save from Pedro late on.
The left back was given a torrid time by Pedro and Iniesta, beaten at will by the Spain duo, and lucky to get away without conceding a goal down his side of the pitch. A miserable showing.
His push on Cesc led to the penalty and he was booked for his troubles, although the decision looked harsh. Probably the best of the Racing defenders other than that as he managed to keep Cuenca quiet in the most part.
Cut out one dangerous ball when Iniesta looked to be in on goal early on and was a physical presence in the heart of the Racing defense, but played Messi onside for the first goal and was booked for his protests as Barca won a penalty in the second half. Made a good block to deny Messi late in the game.
Partnered Alvaro in the locals' defense and was given a tough time by Barca's forwards, but threw himself into a series of blocks and tackles in a brave performance. Was lucky not to concede a penalty for a foul on Iniesta, though.
Largely anonymous in the support striker role behind Babacar and wasn't able to link up effectively with his more advanced teammate. Did do some good defensive work, but offered next to nothing going forward and should have been replaced.
Put in a tireless performance in central midfield as he tracked back constantly and was often an extra center back for the home side. But he inevitably did tire and was replaced in the second half. Unable to bring the ball out from the back as Racing would have hoped.
Offered little when he had the ball and failed to provide proper protection to his defenders. Worked hard but looked limited in every aspect of his game. Was also booked.
Should have offered much more help to Francis, who was given a nightmare down the left by Pedro and Iniesta. Failed to track back or provide any sort of real cover. Wasn't a threat going forward, either, although he rarely had the ball.
Played two very good balls from deep early on, both to Babacar, but the striker was offside for the first and lost control the second time. The veteran forward was Racing's best performer for much of the game but was starved of possession, faded and was replaced with 20 minutes left.
Offside from Munitis' early ball forward, he did manage to latch onto another pass from deep but eventually lost possession and committed a foul. Full of running and a muscular presence up front, but rarely saw the ball and came off at the break.
A virtual spectator for most of the match, but will have been glad to see the offside flag raised when Adrian netted for Racing, after he had come racing off his line to be caught badly out of position.
Won the ball on the edge of the area early on and set up Messi with some neat skill. Was part of a three-man back line but spent most of the afternoon in a very advanced position. His chipped ball almost set up Messi late in the half but Mario was quick off his line. A positive display and disciplined defensively, not that he had much to do.
Started on the left of Barca's three-man back line and was as committed as ever as he flew into tackles on the flank. Most of those were in midfield, however, as the Catalans pressed high up the pitch. Solid and dependable as ever.
Played in the middle of a defensive three, but spent most of his time on the halfway line as midfield pivot. Given occasional problems by the pace of Babacar in the first half, but was largely untroubled.
Some bright moments on the right including a dangerous cross cut out by Mario at the second attempt early on. Also found his way into the area in the first half, only to disappoint with the final ball. Couald have done better and was replaced by Tello with 17 minutes left.
Brought the ball out from the back and advanced forward to set up up Pedro for an early opportunity, his was a disciplined display as he dropped back into the Barca defense when necessary and distributed possession from deep.
Hit the woodwork in the first half and was a constant threat down the left, combining brilliantly with Pedro and timing some excellent runs into the box. Was also denied by Mario and unlucky not to get a goal as he tormented Francis in the right-back role.
Gave the ball away early on as he struggled with the playing surface, but improved as the game wore on. Waltzed through the Racing defense after 25 minutes but saw his low angled drive saved by Mario. Set up the first goal as Messi slid in and won the penalty, too, although he appeared to go down too easily.
It was a slow start from Xavi, who looked uncomfortable on the long grass. His effort from the edge of the box was weak and wide after 27 minutes, but he grew in stature as the game developed and dictated Barca's passing game as usual. Given an ovation by both sets of fans on his departure in the second half.
Not his best performance but two more goals and it's now 50 this season, capping a sensational seven days in which he also scored five against Leverkusen. Linked up well with Cesc in particular and came close with a free kick. Was also denied by Mario in the first half and saw a late effort blocked by Alvaro.
Much better than he has been in the last few games as he tormented Francis and waltzed into the area at will. Linked up well with Iniesta, curled a decent effort wide early on and came close with a chip late in the game, which he should really have scored.
- 31 Daniel Sotres
- 19 Torrejón
- 16 K. Bakircioglu
Came on and had the ball in the net, but his strike was correctly ruled out for offside.
Replaced Munitis with 20 minutes to go but wasn't really able to get into the game.
- 20 Edu Bedia
Had been expected to start this game, but came on at the break instead. Has been impressive at times this term, but was given little opportunity to shine in this match. Totally isolated up front.
