A Chance Myers own goal proved sufficient for Sporting KC's first loss of the 2012 season and snapped Portland's four-game losing streak.
Kansas City's blazing start to the season stands at the second best in league history, one game short of the eight-game winning run the LA Galaxy posted in 1996.
The lone goal of the match came when Kris Boyd sent a hopeful cross into the box. Under no pressure other than from teammate Julio Cesar -- reintroduced to the starting XI at the expense of Paulo Nagamura, the only change to a haggard Kansas City from the team that beat the Vancouver Whitecaps midweek -- Chance Myers somehow construed to head past his own goalkeeper.
For the Timbers the win reversed a four-game losing skid but wasn't enough to move the club out of the Western Conference cellar. Sporting KC still has the best record in MLS, a full five points ahead of the closest team, the San Jose Earthquakes.
