Portland couldn't replicate last week's heroics, when it came from two goals down to draw with New York, against the Impact.
Montreal went ahead a half hour into the Portland match. An Andrea Pisanu free kick bounced around the box, and a blocked Matteo Ferrari shot popped up. Fullback Hassoun Camara pulled off a bycicle kick that beat Donovan Ricketts.
On the hour mark, the Impact doubled the lead. Felipe Martins won the ball back in midfield and started a move that eventually found Andrés Romero on the right. Romero ran to the end line and cut the ball back in front of goal, where Felipe turned it in at the near post.
The Timbers pulled one back with 10 minutes remaining in the match. Ben Zemanski drilled a cross into the area on the half volley, and Ryan Johnson snuck in front of Camara to poke the ball into the net with the bottom of his cleat.
