Portland Timbers 0-0 Columbus Crew: Scoreless stalemate

Portland Timbers 0-0 Columbus Crew: Scoreless stalemate

Jonathan Ferrey

Columbus' winless run extends to five matches with a 0-0 draw away against Portland.

The JELD-WEN Field scoreboard read "RIP MCA" but there was only fight, no party. The Portland Timbers and Columbus Crew played out a 0-0 draw that hardly helps either side.

Portland had lost five of its previous six coming into the match. Columbus hadn't won in four straight. The point apiece moves each club up to eight points total; only Philadelphia and Toronto FC have worse records thus far.

Kris Boyd spurned six shots. The Scottish striker hasn't scored in three games; Portland has only scored an own goal in that same stretch.

On the other side, Andy Gruenebaum pulled off six saves to preserve the road point.
