Rodney Wallace had three assists as the Timbers fine run of form continued against the Rapids.
The Portland Timbers extended their unbeaten streak to 15 matches after an impressive 3-0 home win over the Colorado Rapids. Rodney Wallace led the way with three assists for three different goalscorers.
Portland got off to a flying start, and was up within 12 minutes. Colorado was caught napping on a free kick, and Wallace had plenty of room on the left flank to whip in a cross. Frédéric Piquionne arrived to slam home a header off the underside of the crossbar for his first MLS goal.
The home side got its second just before the half thanks to a great bit of skill from Will Johnson. Wallace spotted the Canadian international at the top of the box, and his first touch flicked the ball up in the air before he slammed home with a volley on his second touch.
The Timbers put the gloss on the win with just minutes left, as substitute Ryan Johnson swept home Wallace's cross to ensure a comfortable win.
