And there indeed is the final whistle. Uruguay advances to the final. Make sure to stick with for a full match report, player ratings, and game reactions.
  • 90' + 2'
Hernandez goes down softly in the box and the referee predictably waves for play to continue. By now Peru seems to have accepted its fate, and the game is being played at half pace. Only a few more seconds until the final whistle.

    SubstitutionA. Balbín J. Ballón
  • 87'
Of course, Paraguay or Venezuela will want to have a word in the final before we go crowning Uruguay prematurely. That semifinal is tomorrow.
  • 86'
Uruguay last won the Copa America in 1995, the year America came in fourth. Despite such a long gap since last triumphing, Uruguay is tied with Argentina with the most Copa trophies at 14.
  • 84'
My, that was some shot. Guerrero, surrounded by six players, uncorks an absolute belter from distance. Muslera slaps at it, but the spin means the ball would have still trickled in if the new Galatasaray goalkeeper hadn't reacted quickly to pounce.
  • 81'
Uruguay patiently putting pressure on every Peru player in midfield. Wherever Peru passes the ball, there's a man in sky blue right up close. Eventually Uruguay nicks the ball back and sends it up to Hernandez, who does well to wriggle free in the box and hit a low shot. Easily scooped up by Raúl Fernández though.
  • 78'
The ball bobbles under Lugano and Coates fumbles a clearance with Guerrero lurking. Eventually Uruguay safely removed the danger, but not before Guerrero waved frantically for a penalty that wasn't given.
  • 75'
    Yellow Card C. Lobatón
  • 75'
Lobaton just sticks a foot in the spokes as Maxi Pareira wheels on by on the counter, bringing him down and earning a yellow. Peru actually has held onto the majority of possession since going down by two, but look shaky defending quick breaks.
  • 71'
    SubstitutionW. Gargano S. Eguren
  • 71'
    SubstitutionLuis Suárez Abel Hernández
  • 71'
Two-goal hero Suarez makes way to keep him fresh for the final. The leggy Abel Hernandez will provide his devastating pace on the counter. Gargano also makes way for the more defensive Sebastián Eguren.
  • 69'
    Red Card Juan Vargas
  • 69'
Well if there was any doubt before, this game is surely over now. Coates comes in hard from behind, and Vargas cynically elbows him in the face. That was a letdown from Peru's captain and best player. Exhaustion and frustration have taken their toll, and Uruguay will be in the Copa America final.
  • 67'
    Yellow Card Diego Lugano
  • 67'
Odd sequence. Diego Lugano clearly catches Guerrero with his arm. Guerrero holds his nose and kicks out furiously at the turf (not at the player). The ref runs over to hand Lugano his obligatory yellow, but you can tell the frustration is getting to Peru.
  • 65'
Well, at least he's trying something. Vargas attempts an overhead kick in the box, but it predictably sails well high. Vargas extremely high up the pitch here, desperate to get Peru back in this one.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionL. Advíncula C. Lobatón
  • 60'
    Yellow Card A. Balbín
  • 60'
Peru getting physical here. Balbin picks up a yellow for nicking Suarez and minutes later Gargano was bundled over taking the ball out of his zone.
  • 59'
Alvaro Pareira got the assist on that one. He's been immense throughout this tournament. In this case he combined with Forlan down the left. In a gap of space, he picked up his head and chipped a sumptuous ball over and around the Peru backline.
  • 58'
    Assist Á. Pereira
  • 58'
    Goal Luis Suárez
  • 58'
And that's match. Within 15 minutes of the second half, Luis Suarez strikes twice to seal the game and a place in the final of the 2011 Copa America. The Liverpool man was left criminally unmarked and latched onto a long ball alone in front of goal. After juking the 'keeper, he calmly rolled the ball home for the 2-0 lead.
  • 56'
Vargas stands over a free kick in a good position, but doesn't keep his shot down. Seems like everything for Peru comes down that left flank.
  • 54'
    SubstitutionYoshimar Yotún W. Chiroque
  • 53'
    Goal Luis Suárez
  • 53'
Goal! Forlan hits a stinging shot which the Peru goalkeeper can only parry. Luis Suarez is there to mop up and put his team ahead.
  • 48'
In the opening few minutes, the ball has stayed in the attacking half for Peru. The ball will certainly find the feet for Vargas for dangerous crosses. Uruguay is looking to Suarez down the flanks.
  • 45'
Halftime in La Plata. 0-0 entering the break.
  • 42'
GOAL! NO! Wait. OFFSIDE! Peru catches a break there. Off a set piece, Forlan sends a ball to the box that Lugano directs towards the goal with a light header. A. Pereira, as always, is in the right place to put the ball away from close but is called offside. The defender nearly drew level with Sergio Aguero for top scorer.
  • 36'
The defenders of Peru are attentive. Uruguay continues to exploit the flanks, but the boys at the back recover well in front of goal to aid Fernandez. The ball goes out for a corner but two chances from Forlan produce little as a foul in the box sees the ball go to the white and red.
  • 34'
Uruguay is using space well as Forlan sends A. Pereira down the line from the middle of the field. The left-sider sends a cross into the box, but the defenders of Peru eliminate the threat with ease.
  • 31'
The ball seems to go from one end to the pitch to the other in the matter of seconds. Peru fails to clear as Uruguay has a chance in the box, but Lugano can't get a touch on the ball to send it home with a volley. Fernandez picks it up and Peru breaks on the counter, but Advincula's cross finds nobody in the box. 15 minutes to go in the first half. Will one nation strike before the break?
  • 28'
Forlan finds A. Pereira charging down the left side of the box where the defender attempts a shot on goal, but the Peru defense did well to slide and block the shot.
  • 27'
    Yellow Card W. Gargano
  • 27'
Peru does well to clear, and Gargano is booked for a foul on Advincula near midfield.
  • 26'
The game is as open as it has been since the ref initiated play. Peru looks move creative, but Uruguay has had more of the ball. A corner from Uruguay to come.
  • 23'
WHAT A BALL BY VARGAS. The powerful midfielder shows his ability to beat a defender on the flank before sending a beautiful, low ball across the middle of the box. Two attackers from Peru failed to get a touch on it with a diving effort. What a chance!
  • 21'
Suarez takes the ball down the side of the box but is marked well by Rodriguez. Peru finally clear the ball. Uruguay has a problem sending a player through, but Markarian's boys are having their own issues clearing forward.
  • 18'
It feels like it is only a matter of time until Uruguay strikes. The last pass to send someone through is missing, but the physical power of Tabarez's men continues to dominate.
  • 15'
    A. Pereira! After M. Pereira wins a cross with a dangerous ball in the box, the defender nearly finds his third goal of the tournament from right in front of goal! The ball was handled poorly by Fernandez after a header, and the Porto man nearly put it away!
  • 13'
    Yellow Card Luis Suárez
  • 13'
Suarez is booked after a tackle on Carmona. One yellow for each squad. The Liverpool man will have to be careful now. Remember, Diego Perez got booked similarly against Argentina and was sent off before halftime.
  • 10'
    A. Pereira heads the ball over the bar off a cross from Forlan. Uruguay continue to press and win another corner after Suarez uses his skills to send in a low ball to the back post from the left side of the box. The ball does not seem to exit the defensive half of Peru.
  • 9'
Peru have the only threatening chance in the opening minutes, but it's Uruguay is control now. Corner to come.
  • 6'
Yotun with the long shot!!!!! Off a set piece, the midfielder fires a long shot low towards the goal but Muslera does well to control the ball with a diving save!
  • 4'
The team's have failed to settle down in the opening minutes. Peru have most of the possession. It's obvious that the red and white are going to Vargas each time.
  • 2'
    Yellow Card Yoshimar Yotún
  • 2'
Hard foul by Yotun on M. Pereira. The game's first yellow card.
