Sporting had previously beaten Real Esteli of Nicaragua by a similar scoreline, and head coach Peter Vermes will be pleased that his team has yet to give up a goal in continental play. Kansas City now sits on top of Group 2 with six points.
Soony Saad scored his first for Kansas City in the 28th minute, running past the Olimpia back line to latch onto a Graham Zusi flick and finish.
Sporting won a penalty in the second half when Dom Dwyer was tripped in the penalty area by Israel Fonseca. Noel Valladares put his hand to Saad's spot-kick effort, but it wasn't enough and the visitors went up 2-0.
In their next game, Sporting will welcome previous victim Real Esteli to Sporting Park on Sept. 17.
