  • Thanks for joining us in our coverage of events at St. James' Park. I've been Al Hain-Cole and it has been a pleasure.
  • Swansea leapfrog the hosts into tenth place, with Michael Laudrup seemingly having come through a tricky patch to improve on The Swans' start their impressive debut season.
  • Alan Pardew will be extemely disappointed with his side's performance, as Newcastle lacked imagination in attack and relied too much on Hatem Ben and the head of Demba Ba.
  • 90' + 5'
No is the answer to that question. The referee has blown for full-time and Newcastle are consigned to a second consecutive home defeat.
  • 90' + 3'
    Goal Demba Ba
  • 90' + 3'
Goal! Ba finally gets his goal and predictablyt it is made by Ben Arfa, who gets to the byline and pulls in a low cross that somehow reaches Marveaux. The winger strikes the ball onto the crossbar, but Ba is on hand to finally get a header on target and into the empty net. Time for a comeback?
  • 90' + 2'
That's a sign of frustration: Ben Arfa picks the ball up 30 yards out and hits a desperate shot high, wide and not at all handsome.
  • 90' + 1'
The Swans are doubling up on Ben Arfa every time, but he has managed to win a corner, which is headed wide by Ameobi.
  • 89'
Game over! Jonathan De Guzman fires the ball high into the net after Danny Graham's stinging shot from the left is parried by Krul. It was a great long pass to find Graham originally by Rangel.
  • 87'
    Goal Jonathan De Guzmán
  • 87'
Game over! Jonathan De Guzman fires the ball high into the net after Danny Graham's stinging shot from the left is parried by Krul. It was a great long pass to find Graham originally by Rangel.
  • 85'
Ben Arfa aside, Newcastle have looked extremely unimaginative today, and the Frenchman again takes it upon himself to have a shot from 25 yards which is easily dropped on by Tremmel. Time is running out for The Toon.
  • 82'
    Substitution Michu Danny Graham
  • 82'
Michu has led the line wonderfully for the visitors, and he can now have a rest for the last 10 minutes as he is replaced by Danny Graham.
  • 81'
Swansea have defended so far, and could be set for their first clean sheet in eight league matches. Agustien gets back this time to tackle Ben Arfa.
  • 80'
Sammy Ameobi has looked lively but not really provided much of an end product. He has now been replaced by Sylvain Marveaux in the last throw of the dice for Pardew.
  • 79'
    Substitution Sammy Ameobi Sylvain Marveaux
  • 79'
The Magpies almost shoot themselves in the foot again as Williamson's underhit backpass is almost seized upon by Michu. Luckily for him Krul gets there first.
  • 76'
The home fans are looking frustrated now, and it could have been worse after Michu again comes close.
  • 75'
Gael Birigirimana is on to replace Simpson; presumably Anita will move to right-back.
  • 74'
Shola Ameobi comes close, getting in on the right of the box only to see his cross-cum-shot blocked by the legs of Tremmel
  • 73'
    Yellow Card Davide Santon
  • 73'
    Substitution Danny Simpson Gael Bigirimana
  • 72'
The hosts are lacking in ideas, and will have to hope that Sammy Ameobi or Ben Arfa's wing play results in a chance for Ba, who must score eventually. The usually clinical striker has not has the best of service this afternoon, but has not been at his best.
  • 70'
Michael Laudrup will be delighted with how the game has gone so far, and looks like he wants to hold onto what he's got now, having brought on Kemy Agustien for Schechter to beef up the midfield.
  • 69'
Newcastle have now had 19 attempts but only managed 6 on target. The majority of those must be off the head of Demba Ba or the left foot of Hatem Ben Arfa.
  • 67'
Ba again gets his head to a ball, but he didn't know much about it this time. Shola Ameobi gets to the byline and smashes the ball into his strike partner's face. It cannons over the bar.
  • 67'
Sammy Ameobi's move to the left wing has given Newcastle more balance, as the tricky youngster is mirroring Ben Arfa's endeavour on the other side.
  • 66'
    Substitution Itay Shechter Kemy Agustien
  • 65'
    Yellow Card Ángel Rangel
  • 65'
Ba meets another cross, this time heading Anita's ball on target but into Tremmel's grasp.
  • 63'
Michu has now got seven goals in 10 league games this season. NOt bad for £2 million...
  • 62'
    Substitution Nathan Dyer Wayne Routledge
  • 60'
Newcastle look shaken at the back, as Steven Taylor gives away a needless corner with a misplaced header back to Krul. The Dutch keeper punches clear from the corner though.
  • 58'
    Assist Pablo Hernández
  • 58'
    Goal Michu
  • 58'
Goal! Swansea get the opener and it's that man again. Michu meeting Hernandez's fine cross from the left after the Spaniard collects Krul weak clearance, with the inspired signing from Rayo Vallecano nodding a diving header into the bottom corner.
  • 57'
The Swans are looking dangerous now, and Hernandez forces Krul into a good save at his near post after finding space in the box from a corner.
  • 55'
Swansea have their first attack of the half, with Hernandez picking out Schechter nicely on the edge of the box, but the former Kaiserslautern man fires just over. Good chance that.
  • 53'
Ba has again found space in the box, and again fired wide. He appears to have left his shooting boots at home today.
  • 52'
Sammy Ameobi certainly looks ore at home on the left, and his excellent cross from deep finds Ba in the box, only for the Senegalese striker to fire tamely wide. He looked offside, but the flag stayed down. Let-off for Swansea.
  • 51'
Sammy Ameobi surges down the left and pulls it back to Shola, who lays the ball to Anita for him to fire over the crossbar from the edge of the area.
  • 50'
Newcastle are on the front foot here after the break, getting plenty of balls into the box. The latest is controlled on the chest by Ba, but his shot on the turn is weak and easily taken by Tremmel.
  • 48'
There are now two Ameobis on the pitch, so we shall see if Shola can have more of an impact up front than brother Sammy, who seems wo have moved out to the left.
  • 46'
    Substitution Shane Ferguson Shola Ameobi
  • 46'
We're back in action here and Alan Pardew must have been reading what I said about Ba being isolated, as Shola Ameobi is on to replace Shane Ferguson for the second period.
  • 1'
The players are back on the pitch and Alan Pardew must have been reading what I was saying about Ba looking isolated, as Shola Ameobi has replaced Shane Ferguson for the second half.
  • Swansea look far more incisive in the final third, and have actually had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes. Michu continues to impress, and he is ably supported by Schechter, Dyer and Hernandez. The former Valencia man is performing as you would expect of a Spanish schemer, and looks capable of unlocking the Magpies rearguard.
  • Hatem Ben Arfa has stood out more than anyone for The Magpies with his tricky runs and willingness to have a go, and it was he who came closest with that strike which Tremmel pushed past the far post. The Frenchman could be the key for Pardew's men.
  • The hosts must have put around 20 crosses into Swansea's box, but Demba Ba has not managed to put one on target as yet. The Senegalese striker is put himself about manfully, but is perhaps lacking some support. Could he be missing Papiss Cisse?
  • And that is indeed it for this half. Not a thriller by any means but the match is intriguingly balanced after the first 45.
  • 45'
Probably the last chance of the half, as Demba Ba meets Ben Arfa's corner but again heads over. He has had plenty of efforts but none on target so far.
  • 44'
Newcastle are not really dominating as much as they would like here, and are failing to match the incisive football of Michael's Laudrup's men when they do come forward.
  • 40'
Excellent counter-attack by Swansea, with Michu chestig the ball off beautifully to Hernandez on the half-way line before racing into the box to get onto the former Valencia man's cross. It is a tad high though, and he can only head it over the bar on the stretch.
  • 37'
Schecter is again looking lively, running onto Michu's beautifully-weighted pass and dinking a cross into the box from the byline. Krul is alive to the threat through, and parries clear.
  • 35'
Itay Schechter is almost in there, taking advantage of some lackadaisical play by Williamson to get onto a long ball. Luckily for the defender, his goalkeeper is more on the ball, and Krul gets out quickly to block the Israeli's shot well.
  • 33'
Ben Arfa is causing problems for Swansea again, finding space in the box to hit a well-struck shot which is saved by Tremmel. The visitors just can't get close to the French international, and they're not the first.
  • 30'
Ameobi gets to the byline and sends in a dengerous cross which is blocked at the near post. The young forward is buzzing around Demba Ba, who is the focal point of everything in attack.
  • 28'
Close for Demba Ba! The striker meets Ben Arfa's cross from deep but can't quite get his glanced header on target. That pair are defeinitely the two most likely for Pardew's men at the moment.
  • 27'
Leon Britton brings down Tiote after giving the ball away in a dangerous area and is booked. The free-kick is hit into a crowd of players by Ben Arfa from all of 30 yards.
  • 26'
    Yellow Card Leon Britton
  • 25'
Ben Arfa looks like the Toon Army's biggest threat, and he manages to get another shot in which again goes wide.
  • 24'
Newcastle are looking to play down the wings, and Shane Ferguson has already hit in several early crosses towards Demba Ba. The latest is headed up in the air and into the keeper's arms by the Senegalese striker, who had to stretch to reach it.
  • 21'
Swansea look lively up front, with Hernandez, Michu and Dyer in particular linking up well and causing problems.
  • 20'
Corner from Newcastle is met by Steven Taylor, but his header doesn't bother Gerhard Tremmel in the Swans goal.
  • 18'
Krul has been the busier keeper so far.
  • 17'
Michu fires in a dangerous shot from the edge of the box after nice link-up by Swansea. Tim Krul dives on it and parries the ball out and Newcastle eventually clear.
  • 16'
Cheik Tiote is putting himself about in the centre of midfield. The Magpies have missed his tenacity recently.
  • 12'
Speak of the devil - Ben Arfa is at it again, twisting and turning into the box before shooting wide of the near post. The Frenchman has completed more dribbles than anyone else in the league this season.
  • 12'
Still no real clear-cut chances, with Swansea coming closest so far. Newcastle have had a couple of long shots well wide from Demba Ba and Hatem Ben Arfa, who get the fans off their seats every time they move forward.
  • 11'
Pablo Hernandez latches onto Michu's ball wide, only to shoot straight into the arms of Tim Krul from the edge of the box.
  • 10'
It is a big day for Shane Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi today, in for Jonas Gutierrez and Papiss Cisse, and the youngsters are looking lively so far.
  • 9'
    Yellow Card Itay Shechter
  • 8'
Laudrup's men are starting to get their foot on the ball, playing the short passing game that they have become so renowned for.
  • 7'
Nathan Dyer was almost in there, getting behind the Newcastle defence only to drag his shot wide of the far post under pressure from Williamson.
  • 5'
Swansea, playing in red today, are trying to put pressure on the home team, closing Newcastle down as soon as they move out of their own third.
  • 3'
Newcastle are dominating the ball at the moment, maintaining possession in the first few minutes.
  • 1'
And we're off, the home team starting the match.
  • Newcastle will be hoping to bounce back from last weekend's disappointing 1-0 home defeat to former boss Sam Allardyce's West Ham. Swansea have only won one of their last nine Premier League games, but have lost just once in the last six in all competitions.
  • Danny Graham is amongst the Swansea substitutes, with the striker making a return to the club he supported as a boy. The 27-year-old has recently reiterated a desire to return to his native North East having started his career at nearby Middlesbrough, although there will be no room for local sentiment should he make an appearance at St. James' Park this afternoon.
  • Swansea make two changes to the side which drew 1-1 at Southampton with goal-scorer Nathan Dyerstarting in the place of ex-Newcastle winger Wayne Routledge while Israeli international Itay Shechter makes his first Premier League start in place of the injured Ki Sung-yueng.
  • Compatriot Demba Ba does start though, after also missing Senegal's friendly with Niger through injury.
  • Newcastle are without key men Fabricio Coloccini (suspended), Yohan Cabaye (injured), Jonas Gutierrez (injured) and Papiss Cisse, who has been ruled out after the Senegalese FA complained to Fifa over his non-appearance for international duty.
  • Line-ups: Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Steven Taylor, Williamson, Santon, Ben Arfa, Anita, Tiote, Ferguson, Sammy Ameobi, Ba. Subs: Elliot, Amalfitano, Bigirimana, Marveaux, Shola Ameobi, Tavernier, Abeid. Swansea: Tremmel, Rangel, Williams, Monk, Davies, Britton, de Guzman, Dyer, Michu, Hernandez, Shechter. Subs: Cornell, Chico, Graham, Routledge, Moore, Tiendalli, Agustien.
