Sebastien Le Toux faced his old club but the hero of the day was Kenny Cooper, who scored both goals in a 2-0 NY win.
Cooper ended a seven-game goalless run with a strike minutes before halftime. A flowing move came to Connor Lade on the left, and the rookie curled a cross into the box. Cooper zipped in front of Gabriel Farfan to head home the opener.
Lade was also involved in the second. This time he pulled the ball back to Thierry Henry, who provided the service. Once again the marking from Farfan was lax, and Cooper nipped in front to deflect a header past Zac MacMath. The goal keeps Cooper second in MLS with 13 goals. Of the 11 before the Philly game, only one was from his noggin.
Some 21,842 showed up to watch the midday rivalry.
