New York Red Bulls 4-0 Montreal Impact: Henry leads rout

A goal and two assists from Thierry Henry helped the Red Bulls to a dominant 4-0 win against the Impact on a humid night in New York.

The New York Red Bulls' home record against the Montreal Impact remained unblemished Saturday night as goals from Eric Alexander and Thierry Henry in the first half, and Tim Cahill and Peguy Luyindula in the second, gave the Red Bulls a commanding 4-0 win.

Just like they did in their last road game in Toronto, the Impact were caught napping in the early stages of the first half and conceded quickly. The first goal came in the 10th minute as Red Bulls midfielder Alexander easily skipped past two Impact defenders and coolly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Troy Perkins. The second goal came only six minutes later as Henry was left unmarked in the box and the Frenchman deftly redirected a Fabian Espindola cross past Perkins.

The Impact tried to respond in the second half and came close to reducing the deficit in the 48th minute as Justin Mapp forced Red Bulls’ goalkeeper Luis Robles into an important save. But the Red Bulls managed the withstand the Impact pressure and put the game beyond doubt in the 63rd minute courtesy of a vintage Tim Cahill header.

Peguy Luyindula made matters worse for the Impact as he scored his first goal in a New York uniform from the penalty spot in the 88th minute after Lloyd Sam was clipped in the box by Jeb Brovsky.

The Impact, who are now winless in their last four games, return home to Saputo Stadium to play FC Dallas, while the Red Bulls will travel north to take on Toronto FC at BMO Field.
