The Red Bulls right back notched his first two career MLS goals to help defeat his old club.

The New York Red Bulls powered past their arch-rival D.C. United with a 3-2 victory that featured a pair of goals from a most unlikely source.

Brandon Barklage spent three seasons with D.C. United, which were mostly wiped out by two ACL tears. After being let go this offseason, he latched on with the Red Bulls, won their starting right back spot, and Sunday, scored his first two MLS goals in grand fashion.

It was D.C. United which got off to a lightning-quick start though, as Chris Pontius beat Ryan Meara to the near post to head the away side in front in the first minute.

The Red Bulls had an answer and then some, and it came courtesy of Barklage.

First, the right back got on the end of a corner kick and volleyed home to tie the game. Right before the half, he gave his side the lead in spectacular fashion, crashing home a volley from a ball which floated high up into the New Jersey night.

Ten minutes into the second half, and the Red Bulls doubled their lead. Joel Lindpere found Jan Gunnar Solli with a cross and while the Norweigan's initial effort was saved, the rebound fell kindly for him to hammer home from short range.

United struck back, and Pontius completed his double after being sent through by a great ball from Maicon Santos. Pontius dribbled around Ryan Meara and finished coolly.

It wasn't enough though, and the Red Bulls held on for a win which ties them with D.C. atop the Eastern Conference standings.
