Diego Fagundez's long strike stood up as the difference between two teams with little to play for in the last few matches of the season. An early Diego Fagundez strike gave the New England Revolution a 1-0 win over the visiting Chicago Fire on Saturday night.
The fire alarm went off in Gillette Stadium shortly before kickoff. However, the omen didn't play in Chicago's favor, as the Revs started the hotter side. Diego Fagundez, with his hair dyed red, uncorked from the 20 yard line to open the scoring. The teenager lifted his jersey to reveal a message of birthday congratulations to his mother.
That was the only goal of the game.
New England can't budge from ninth place in the Eastern Conference, and the Fire has locked in a playoff position.
