Montreal Impact 0-3 Toronto FC: Paul Mariner earns first win as TFC runs rampant at Stade Saputo

After blowing two-goal leads in new coach Paul Mariner's first two games in charge, Toronto FC made sure its lead stood up Wednesday night in Montreal.

Toronto FC earned its first road victory of the season, running roughshod over the Montreal Impact in a 3-0 win at Stade Saputo. Goals from Torsten Frings, Ryan Johnson and Danny Koevermans sealed the win.

TFC broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half. Frings stepped up and blasted a free kick through the hands of Impact goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts. The Jamaican may think he should have done better, as he was unable to prevent the German from scoring his first MLS goal.

In the 72nd minute, the visitors doubled their lead, as Johnson collected a pass off an Impact turnover, swiveled his hips, and buried a left-footer into the corner past a diving Ricketts.

TFC put the game away five minutes later, as slack Montreal marking allowed Ashtone Morgan behind the defense. The Canadian international squared for an unmarked Koevermans, who had the simplest of tap-ins.

The match marked the MLS debut of Impact Designated Player Marco Di Vaio, who started and played 55 minutes. He had little effect on the match, which was his first game action since the end of the Serie A season with Bologna.
