W. Samuel 4'
FULL TIME IN MILAN. Inter win the first derby of the season! A solitary goal from Walter Samuel in the first three minutes of the match give Andrea Stramaccioni's men a vital three points in Serie A. What are the consequences of this defeat for Massimiliano Allegri? You feel that the Milan boss is going to be under even more severe pressure now. We will find out in the coming days. I'm Martin Macdonald, thank you for joining us on Goal.com! See you next time!
90' + 1'
Inter's hearts were in their mouths there as Robinho looked to have broke the offside trap to have a free shot on goal, but the belated flag of the linesman eventually calls for offside. Inter let off the hook.
Well, with just about every player inside the box, Mexes has the opportunity to get a good ball into the box but overhits the ball out for an Inter goal kick. The fans, his team-mates, and his manager, are all incensed.
Yellow Card Mario Yepes
Inter have reverted deep into their own half again and look set to be parking the bus for the remaining minutes of the match. Should be all Milan in the last moments.
Terrific block by Ranocchia! Boateng receives the ball just inside the box and lays the ball off for the Bojan 20 yards from goal and he fires a powerful shot at goal but the Inter centre back bravely blocks the ball on the edge of the box!
Yellow Card Riccardo Montolivo
Zanetti shows a veteran head and takes the ball on a run down the right to take the pressure off the defence. Emanuelson eventually shields the ball out for a Milan goal kick.
Yellow Card Andrea Ranocchia
Yellow Card Giampaolo Pazzini
Penalty shout for Milan!!! Pazzini cleverly shuffles the ball into the path of Robinho inside the box but Samuel stops the run of the Brazilian by edging out his shoulder! The Milan players are adamant it was a penalty! Pazzini is booked for his complaints
Fresh air shot from Pazzini!!! Boateng picks out Robinho with a fantastic crossfield ball to the back post and the Brazilian nods the ball down to the feet of the Italian who completely misses the ball!! There is a goalmouth scramble and eventually a free kick is given for a foul on Handanovic!
Milan go close again!! Emanuelson drills a shot across the six yard box that goes a foot by the post! That was begging to be tapped in but there are no takers for Allegri's side!
Montolivo has another crack at goal but this time his shots drags across the box. Zanetti takes no chances and clears the balk for a corner kick. Montolivo's shooting has been incredibly hot and cold in this game.
So close Pazzini!!!! The substitute peels off to the back past and attempts to get on the end of a whipped cross inside but misses the ball by inches despite sliding desperately to get the ball!
Andrea Stramaccioni is incensed on the touchline after Mario Yepes appeared to have blocked Rodrigo Palacio on the right-hand side. I don't know why he is so angry as there didn't look to be too much contact. The fourth official is getting an earful anyway.
Bojan continues to come very deep to receive possession. This would be fine if he was creating play from areas further back but he has lost the ball on a couple of occasions in the last few minutes.
Stephan El Shaarawy
Both sides make a sub. Diego Milito is replaced by Rodrigo Palacio for Inter and Giampaolo Pazzini comes on for Stephen El Shaarawy for Milan.
It is all Milan at the moment. Inter are lying very deep inside their own half and are inviting pressure from the hosts.
Bojan slips at the vital moment! Another long range Montolivo strike is saved by Handanovic and the ball falls to the feet of the former Barcelona man but he slips on the turf before he can get a shot away! That looked a certain goal!
What a strike from Montolivo!! The midfielder unleashes a fantastic strike towards goal from 30 yards that is brilliantly saved by Handanovic! Bojan clips the rebound to the back post but Boateng attempts the spectacular bicycle kick and smashes the ball into the ground and over the bar! He should have done much better with that!
Robinho received the ball inbetween the Inter midfield and attack and turns sharply before attempting to slip the ball through for Bojan but the pass is deflected into the hands of Handanovic.
Emanuelson stretches his legs down the left and floats a superb cross to the back post. Robinho jumps and half-heartedly attempts to head towards goal. There was not a lot of conviction on that header from the Brazilian.
Abate goes on a signature marauding run down the right and attempts to exchange a one-two with Boateng on the edge of the area but the Ghanian's return is intercepted by Zanetti, who clears the ball up the park.
Mattia De Sciglio
That will be De Sciglio's last action of the match as Allegri makes a very positive change. The left-back will be replaced by Robinho. Emanuelson will fill in at the back and the Brazilian will join the attack.
Mattia De Sciglio picks up the ball on the left-hand side and attempts to whip a cross into the centre but it is blocked by Zanetti and goes out for a throw in. He should have done better with the space he had.
Montolivo has received the ball in good areas outside the Inter box twice in two minutes and has had two shots at goal. Unfortunately for Milan both attempts were horribly wayward.
A plethora of changes just after the break is completed with the substitution of Antonio Cassano for Alvaro Pereira. The Italian is met with deafening boos from the Milan supporters. It doesn't seem to affect him at all, so much so that he claps the fans as he comes off.
Massimiliano Allegri reacts to the sending off quickly and has brought on Ignacio Abate in place of Daniele Bonera at right back. The substitute will certainly get a lot of space down the wing now that Nagatomo has been sent off.
Yellow/Red Yuto Nagatomo
Nagatomo has been sent off! The Inter man sees red for a second bookable offence for handball! That looked very harsh! Stramaccioni is beside himself!
A change to report at halftime for Inter as Fredy Guarin comes on to replace Philippe Coutinho, who was ineffectual in the first half.
WE ARE BACK UNDERWAY!
Halftime in the Milan derby. A goal in the third minute from Walter Samuel is the difference between the city rivals so far. It has been an enthralling match so far and Allegri's men have done well to recover from there early mishap. Andrea Stramaccioni's men go into the break with a slender lead. Join us in 15 minutes for the second half!
Bojan receives the ball inside the area and shifts the ball onto his right foot before rifling a shot towards the top corner. It proves too hot to handle for Handanovic as the Inter goalkeeper palms the ball out for a corner.
Much better from the Dutchman. He drives down the right and whips an excellent cross into the centre but Ranocchia is there to make a superb interception and clear the ball away.
Emanuelson has received the ball on a number of occasions for Milan down the right-hand side but has, more often than not, simply run into traffic and eventually lost the ball. With the amount of the ball he has had he should have had more of an affect on the game so far.
Controversy here!! Handanovic clears the ball with a punch and the ball falls to Montolivo who magnificently volleys into the top corner! The Milan fans begin to celebrate but the referee brings the ball back for a free kick to Inter after Emanuelson supposedly fouled Handanovic! Very, very harsh!
Yellow Card Nigel De Jong
Well, in the heated atmosphere of a Milan derby, perhaps it was a matter of time before Nigel De Jong earned a booking. The Dutchman earns a yellow card for a late challenge on Walter Gargano.
Wasted opportunity from Boateng!! Milan rob Inter of possession in the final third and the ball comes to the 25-year-old who horrible slices wide with a left-footed shot! He should have tested Handanovic from that position!
Yellow Card Philippe Mexes
Inter counterattack at pace down the right through Walter Gargano who drives forward and sends a pass down the inside right channel for Milito who reverses a pass inside. The ball deflects back out for the Argentine who lashes a shot-come-cross along the six yard box but there are no takers for Inter!
Milan have done better in the past 15 minutes or so. They could easily have capitulated after Inter's storming start but have dusted themselves off and recuperated well.
Boateng smashes wide!! The Ghanian latches on to a cross at the near post but sends his shot the wrong side of the right-hand post! That was a chance!
The stalwarts of either side, Zanetti and Bonera, clash on thewing and a free kick is awarded to Inter. The two men get up and shake hands without making a fuss. Refreshing to see.
Well the noise of the Milan fans quickly subsides as the resulting corner kick is severely overhit and goes out for a throw in on the left-hand side. Disappointing.
Yellow Card Yuto Nagatomo
Chance for Milan to test the Inter defence with a corner kick from the right. It is whipped in to the middle and Yepes rises high and attempts to head towards goal but it is deflected out for a corner kick. The Milan fans crank up the noise!
Nagatomo and Yepes get involved in a crunching 50-50 challenge in the middle of the park. Both players were committed in the tackle but the Japan international received a yellow card.
Diego Milito has looked incredibly sharp so far. His power is a real thorn in the side of the Milan defence as he is keeping them at bay when he drives towards goal. They don't seem to have an answer to him at the moment.
El Shaarawy makes a darting run into the centre and attempts to turn the ball towards goal from a cross but Nagatomo is there to make a vital last ditch interception to turn the ball into the hands of Handanovic.
Bojan has looked isolated so far is the lone striker. He is eager to receive possession and so has resorted to coming deep to receive the ball, but this is leaving no Milan presence inside the box.
De Sciglio finds some space on the left and whips a cross into the near post for El Shaarawy but the ball deflects off Ranocchia for a corner kick. Corner to Milan.
Montolivo goes close!!! The 27-year-old picks up the ball from a quick free kick and unleashes a piledriver towards goal but it goes a whisker by the left-hand post! Handanovic was certainly scrambling!
Montolivo and De Jong are just starting to see a little more of the ball in the middle of midfield now. Lets see if they can create anything from deeper areas but Inter's defence have been rock solid so far.
Yellow Card Juan Jesus
Well the game has been played at lightning pace since the start of the match and Inter have had Milan on the back foot since the get-go. Allegri's team need to find a way to weather the storm.
Cassano receives the ball for Inter down the left and is met with a chorus of boos from the Milan supporters. I suppose that is what you get for celebrating as vigorously as he did after the goal right in front of the home fans.
Emanuelson cleverly takes the pressure off his defence by taking the ball for a run down the right-hand side. The Milan centre backs really needed a bit of respite. The pressing of Inter since the start of the match has been sensational.
MILITO SHOULD HAVE SCORED!! Abbiati's terrible pass out of his goal is intercepted by the Argentine who sees his shot saved by the Milan goalkeeper! His follow up is a weak header that is also saved by Abbiati! Milan are all over the place!
An awful start for Milan. Inter have come flying out of the blocks and Allegri's team have no answer!
Assist Esteban Cambiasso
Goal Walter Samuel
GOOOOOOOAAAAAL FOR INTER!!! WALTER SAMUEL SCORES!!! A free kick is floated to the back post and Abbiati misjudges the flight of the ball! The Inter defender drifts in and scores with a diving header into the empty net! 1-0 !!
Massimiliano Allegri is clearly not happy with that challenge. The Milan coach will have to be careful as he is pointing a finger straight in the face of referee Paulo Valeri.
Walter Samuel makes his intentions knows early and takes out Kevin Prince-Boateng with a late challenge inside the centre circle. I don't think the Argentine will be taking too many prisoners tonight.
THE MILAN DERBY IS UNDERWAY!
The players have took to the field and we are just a couple of minutes from kick-off now. The pre-match handshake is underway. You wonder how long the gentlemanly conduct will last between the sides.
The pre-match atmosphere in San Siro is absolutely electric! I think we are in for a real treat tonight.
In the last Milan derby, Inter striker Diego Milito bagged a hat-trick and helped his side to a 4-2 win over their rivals in May. The Argentine starts tonight.
An interesting stat here: Milan and Inter last shared the spoils 19 games ago, a record which stretches back to October 2004.
This is the starting XI of Inter: Handanovic; Ranocchia, Samuel, Juan; Zanetti, Gargano, Cambiasso, Nagatomo; Coutinho; Milito, Cassano.
This is how AC Milan will be lining up tonight: Abbiati; Bonera, Yepes, Mexes, De Sciglio; De Jong, Montolivo; Emanuelson, Boateng, El Shaarawy; Bojan.
THE TEAMS ARE IN.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action this evening. Compared to previous seasons, the Milan clubs no doubt have depleted squads this campaign, but their is still plenty of attacking talent on show tonight. Lets hope we are in for a special game!
The first Milan derby of the season is here, and with both sides not firing on all cylinders this season, the three points are so incredibly vital tonight for the winners.
