Live Commentary

  • 90' + 3'
Just two minutes given of stoppage and we're already past that mark, so nothing left in this game. Mexico with a solid win, some things to work on in defending set plays, but that's all she wrote from this one. 3-1 win for Mexico, but it was a costly one.
  • 90' + 1'
We;re into stoppage time and Ecuador has a header blocked before a foul is called to end the threat for Mexico.
  • 88'
As you would expect this game is still pretty chippy with any late tackles. That's what injuries do to the mindset.
  • 86'
Sloppy pass out of the back leads to Enner having another break down the line. He looks a real threat whenever he touches the ball.
  • 85'
More good work from Fabian down the left. He's all he can to lock up a starting spot on this team.
  • 83'
So a late push for Ecuador here, and still a good pace of play in the midfield.
  • 80'
    Goal Enner Valencia
  • 80'
    SubstitutionGiovani dos Santos R. Jiménez
  • 80'
Comfortable lead here for Mexico. Two great strikes and one bit of fortune for Gio and suddenly it's 3-0. Ecuador will get a look from a free kick now... And Enner Valencia puts it away! 3-1. A lifeline for Ecuador.
  • 78'
Gio actually hit the post and it came back off the keeper, maybe not as much his fault as it looked on first glance.
  • 77'
Enner Valencia with a break forward and Ochoa comes out to make the save. Mexico gets the corner clear and Gio takes in the other way. The ball slips out to Layun who throws it back across the face and Gio is there to finish!! GOAL! Mexico up 3-0. Some bad goalkeeping but still, goal for Mexico.
  • 76'
    Own Goal M. Banguera
  • 72'
    Yellow Card H. Herrera
  • 72'
    SubstitutionF. Martínez Felipe Caicedo
  • 72'
    Yellow Card Edison Vicente Méndez
  • 72'
A little bit of a scrap as two players slide for a tackle. Cards handed out and we'll move on.
  • 69'
    Goal M. Fabián
  • 69'
There it is.. 2-0 to Mexico. Fabian with another blast. Really nice goal and Mexico is well in front. Just a bomb of a hit.
  • 68'
Ecuador has to scramble another ball out of the goalmouth. Both teams getting chances, and I'd be shocked if this stays at 1-0.
  • 67'
    SubstitutionO. Peralta Javier Hernández
  • 66'
Then player who colided with Montes, Segundo Castillo, has also been taken to the hospital to have his knee looked at.
  • 64'
    SubstitutionF. Erazo G. Achilier
  • 63'
More chances for Ecuador, and it was all started by a terrible goalkick. Had to be saved off the line by a defender, and then a second shot hits the side netting.
  • 61'
Goal waved off for Ecuador. Foul called in the scrum in front of goal. Looked like a handball.
  • 61'
Corner for Ecuador, Ochoa really doesn't even have to do much to get it dealt with, but a poor outlet leads to another corner.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionJefferson Montero Antonio Valencia
  • 59'
Herrera is flashing some skills in the attack this half. Not as restrained maybe as he was earlier, and he just worked out another decent chance with a little juggling act and a volley.
  • 55'
Just another bit of bad news for Mexico. Talk going around that Marquez is on his way to the hospital as well. Fears of a fractured foot.
  • 52'
Now Gio works a good spot. He cuts it back as well and once again there's no end product, but a nice look from Gio to get past a couple of defenders and create some danger.
  • 51'
Good work from Herrera to open up the defense, floated a little cross over and it goes without a touch.
  • 50'
    SubstitutionA. Guardado Miguel Arturo Layun
  • 49'
Good run to open the half, much faster pace than the end of the first. Montero has been the biggest threat for Ecuador, and he's once again breaking down the left.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionRafa Márquez C. Salcido
  • 46'
    SubstitutionJ. Ayoví Enner Valencia
  • 46'
    SubstitutionC. Peña J. Vázquez
  • 46'
We're back and rolling. Ecuador moving it around the back to start off this half.
  • The injury certainly broke the spirit of that first half, but there's 45 minutes still to play and Mexico will have to go on without its goalscorer.
  • 45' + 3'
Maybe a late chance for Mexico with a corner, but it's cleared and that's it for the first half.
  • 45' + 1'
Just two minutes added on to the end of this half. Probably smart not to add a ton, even for a long stoppage, in this type of match.
  • 44'
A little pace comes back into it with Fabian trying to pick out Guardado, and another hard tackle comes in. Not what you want to see as a Mexico fan or player.
  • 42'
Play has resumed, but not with much life to it.
  • 41'
    SubstitutionL. Montes M. Fabián
  • 41'
    SubstitutionS. Castillo C. Gruezo
  • 40'
Not good to watch. They're not even showing the replays, but I went back and watched it, it was a very bad tackle, a broken leg, and Fabian has to come on to replace him. Tough, tough break fro Montes who looks to be out for while.
  • 36'
    Yellow Card L. Montes
  • 36'
Sadly for Montes, it looks like he may have just broken his leg. A really rough tackle, and he went down hard. He's certainly injured, and his trip to Brazil may have just ended.
  • 35'
The goal for Mexico came from a really nice flowing move. Guardado did some nice work, Marquez played it in, Peralta laid it off and Montes had the go.
  • 34'
Montero comes down to the other end and tries to answer but send his shot high and wide.
  • 33'
    Assist O. Peralta
  • 33'
    Goal L. Montes
  • 33'
GOAL! Mexico takes the lead, and much like last game it comes from an absolute rip of a shot. Montes just hammered it home from 20 yards with a perfect hit on his left foot. 1-0 El Tri.
  • 29'
Play called back for a foul, Mexico with it moving it around the back. Not finding too many ways forward at the moment.
  • 28'
    Mexico gets the danger cleared.
  • 25'
    Yellow Card Rodríguez
  • 25'
Montero with a great run forward and Maza chops him down, picking up a yellow card. Ecuador will have a good look from this position. Montero took a hard fall though, and is slow to get up.
  • 24'
Gio has it taken off him as he breaks into the box. Ecuador looks like a very physically gifted team in terms of being both big and athletic.
  • 21'
Ecuador moving it around the back slowly, finally move it forward to Rojas who whips in a pretty dangerous cross. Mexico having to defend a good bit so far in this match, but looks dangerous when they do get out and try to countrer quickly.
  • 18'
Nearly a nice combination between Peralta and Pena in Ecuador's box, but just didn't come off.
  • 16'
Mexico with a good spell of play in Ecuador's end. Nothing comes of it. Pretty even match so far, neither team has fully found its flow yet.
  • 13'
Mendez puts the shot up over the top.
  • 12'
Dangerous break for Ecuador after Gio has it taken off him by Montero. Nice one-two to break the defense and draw a dangerous foul.
  • 10'
Mexico settling in a bit, but Ecuador is keeping a good pace, pressuring the ball a good bit.
  • 7'
The play just went end to end in a hurry for Mexico, with Peralta chasing down a ball over the top only to be beaten to it by the keeper. Ecuador came right back and won a corner. Good stuff early on.
  • 5'
Both teams being very active early. Different tempo to this game than was the case a few nights ago in Azteca.
  • 3'
Early exchanges haven't shown much. A blocked cross from Guardado and the the South Americans had the ball for a minute. Now Mexico has an early free kick.
  • 1'
    Here we go!!!
  • Now for Mexico: Ochoa; Aguilar, Rodriguez, Marquez, Moreno, Guardado; Pena, Montes, Herrera; Gio and Peralta up top. Here's the chance for Dos Santos to make his mark, at least if the lineup we're seeing is correct. There seems to be some confusion over that, which is odd.
  • No Antonio Valencia for Ecuador today, but five Liga MX players in the starting group.
  • Let's jump right into some lineups. For Ecuador: Banguera, Guagua, Erazo, Paredes, Montero, Méndez, Martínez, W. Ayoví, Castillo, J. Ayoví, Rojas.
  • Welcome in to Goal's live call of Mexico's second World Cup preparation friendly. Today El Tri will be taking on Ecuador today after a comfortable win over Israel last time out. A completely different kind of opponent today and in some ways, this is where the World Cup prep really gets rolling for Mexico, after using the first game as a farewell to Blanco.
