So Swansea start the season atop the Premier League, A great start for Garry Monk in his first full season in charge. That's it from me, Harry Slavin. Be sure to stick around for more league action this afternoon. Thanks for joining me and until next time, it's goodbye for now!
Louis van Gaal's magic has failed to rub off then on the opening day of the season. There was a shout in stoppage time for handball against Amat. The ball did hit his arm but it was by his side and he knew nothing about it.
FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-2 SWANSEA. Same old story at Old Trafford for Manchester United. They taste defeat at home on an opening day for the first time since 1972. Swansea celebrate a first ever league win over United.
FULL-TIME: MAN UTD 1-2 SWANSEA!!
90' + 5'
A cross from Nani is slammed into Rooney's midriff by Januzaj! That could be that.
90' + 4'
Januzaj with a cross and again it's Fabianski underneath it. Fellaini was there but wasn't causing any problems. We're into the final minute. There could be more after Sigurdsson's injury though.
90' + 3'
Cross from Mata is deflected up into the air by Williams and Fabianski is underneath it to collect. Just seconds left now for United.
90' + 1'
We are into four minutes of stoppage time. Swansea four minutes away from a famous victory. Sigurdsson is down receiving treatment after a nasty looking collision with Nani. He may down for a while yet you'd imagine.
A cross is floated into the area by januzaj and Fabianski is out well to collect. Down the other end Montero is asking for a penalty after a handball. Nothing doing though for the the referee Mike Dean.
Long ball from Mata into the Swansea area but Fellaini has drifted into an offside position. They're getting desperate now United. And so are their fans.
The seats are beginning to empty at Old Trafford. The home fans have seen enough. This time last year things seemed so much brighter. Now, it appears as if nothing have changed.
Yellow Card Ashley Young
Ashley Young is now in the book for United. It has been a tough second half for the former Villa man, filling in at left-back. Into the final five minutes of normal time now.
STAT ATTACK: Manchester United haven't lost on the opening day of the season at Old Trafford since 1972. That could be about to change.
Yellow Card Tyler Blackett
Tyler Blackett is in the book for a foul on Gomis. The former Lyon striker just beat the youngster to the ball in the middle of the park and Mike Dean is in his pocket once more.
Yellow Card Ki Sung-Yueng
Ki is in the book for Swansea. That brings their tally up to four as the Korean clashes with Fellaini. Less than 10 minutes now for United to get back into this.
GOMIS IS ALMOST IN AGAIN! That was almost curtains for Van Gaal's side as the Frenchman bursts into the area after nice work from Routledge, but Jones is across to make an important last ditch challenge.
The corner is towards Fellaini but he can't get his head on it. They quickly earn another free kick United, but the delivery from young is poor and Gomis can nod the ball away.
Manchester United have a free kick which is delivered by Young. Shelvey is the man who gets a touch on it in the area and he flicks it behind for a corner.
Change for Swansea as summer signing Gomis is on for Bony. He is immediately in the thick of the action but has his shot blocked by Smalling. The visitors attack again through Montero on the left and only a great last ditch tackle from Jones prevents another clear chance.
Ashley Young got caught out there and I guess that is what happens when you try to get players to play out of position. He had no idea Routledge was over his shoulder and got caught underneath Montero's cross. the Welsh side are back in the driving seat now.
Assist Wayne Routledge
Goal Gylfi Sigurdsson
GOOOAAALLL!!! SWANSEA ARE BACK IN FRONT!!! Great work from Montero down the left opens United up and his lofted cross to the far post is put back across goal by Routledge and Sigurdsson is there to stroke the ball in for his side's second.
Herrera has definitely caught the eye on his debut for United. He's looked sharp on the ball and drew a number of fouls from the Swansea players. Can Fellaini fill the hole left by the Spaniard?
The changes have been made and Fellaini is on for Herrera. Montero meanwhile is on for Dyer.
GOAA.... no!!! What a strike from Rooney! He has a free kick on the edge of the Swansea area. He sends it up and over the wall and it has Fabianski beaten all ends up, but it comes back off the upright! So unlucky.
A couple of changes are being prepped, one by each side. Fellaini is being given some direction by Ryan Giggs. Not many would have bet on him making an appearance at Old Trafford in red this season after his summer of speculation.
Januzaj really has changed the game since coming on. He cuts in on his left foot here and looks to send a curling effort into the far corner, but he gets it wrong and his shot doesn't trouble Fabianski.
Routledge is in the United penalty area on the left-hand side. He looks to get the better of Jones but the England international stands firm and dispossesses the former Newcastle man. A tidy piece of defending there.
Well you don't see that every day in the Premier League. Ashley Young has been penalised for a foul throw. Unforgivable for a professional and it wastes a promising position for United.
The hosts look a lot more at home under this formation in the second half. Nani sends in a low cross towards Rooney and Mata but Amat is across first to clear the danger.
Neil Taylor's withdrawal from the action is telling. He was being run ragged by Januzaj on the right-hand side and the Belgian's direct style played a huge part in that United equaliser.
CLOSE! Rooney makes a late run across the keeper and looks for all the world as if he is going to make contact with Young's free kick, but it's just over his head and Fabianski can collect.
Yellow Card Jonjo Shelvey
Free kick for United now in a dangerous position. Mata is fouled by Shelvey, who becomes the third Swansea player to be booked this afternoon. Swansea have also made a change as Taylor comes off and Tiendalli comes on.
Goal Wayne Rooney
GOOOAAALLL!!! ROONEY LEVELS!!! That change seems to have done the trick for Van Gaal. A corner is flicked on at the front post by Jones, and Rooney is on hand at the back post to acrobatically send the ball into an unguarded net.
That could have been special! The ball sits up nicely for Wilfried Bony 30-yard plus out from De Gea's goal. He tries a speculative volley but doesn't quite catch it, providing the Spaniard with a comfortable stop.
Van Gaal has gone to four at the back then, as Jones shifts across to right-back and Young slots in on the left - leaving Blackett and Smalling in the middle of defence. Rooney is now up top by himself. Will that see the home side create more chances in this half though, I wonder.
Yellow Card Neil Taylor
Januzaj is looking sharp at the beginning off the half, he cuts inside on United's first attack before drilling a shot into the side netting. Now he has won a free kick after being scythed down by Taylor, who joins Nathan Dyer in the book.
We are back underway and it's a significant change as Van Gaal ditches his three at the back. Hernandez is off and Nani is on.
The teams are back out in the second half and there looks to be a change for United at the break. More details shortly.
New season, new boss, but still the same problems for Manchester United at home. They lost seven games at Old Trafford in the league last season - their worst record in over 40 years. Van Gaal will want to get off on the right foot this afternoon, but he has his work cut out now.
HALF-TIME: MAN UTD 0-1 SWANSEA. Well, well. This certainly wasn't the first half Louis van Gaal or the United fans envisaged as they headed to Old Trafford this morning. It's been a game of few chances but Garry Monk's side have taken one of them and Ki's goal separates the teams at the break.
45' + 3'
Referee Mike Dean puts the whistle to his lips and that will do us for the first period!
45' + 2'
Louis van Gaal and Ryan Giggs are deep in discussion in the United dugout. They need to find some way of turning this around after the break.
We are into three minutes of added time at the end of the first half. Swansea have the ball. Can they see it out until the break?
Telling tactics from Swansea. They have a free kick inside the United half. Earlier in the game Sigurdsson would have swung this into the area, but this time he plays the ball backwards as the Welsh side look to keep hold of the ball until the break.
It's a big season for Neil Taylor, with Ben Davies having vacated the left back spot, and he's started strongly here. Just moments earlier he had put in a telling last ditch tackle on Januzaj, after it looked as if the Belgian international had beaten him down the outside and into the box.
Brilliantly worked move by United, but they still can't test Fabianski! The ball is worked by Young down the left and Mata flicks a smart pass inside to Fletcher. A path to goal opens up but Taylor comes flying out of nowhere as the Scotsman lets fly, blocking the shot.
Herrera has certainly been getting his own personal welcome to England from the Swansea players. Wayne Routledge is the latest to take him out as Ashley Young points out that's the fourth time Herrera has been fouled.
Van Gaal's men are just beginning to crank up the pressure. They've seen a lot of the ball since gong behind and Swansea look happy to sit back on their lead. They look like they can cause a few problems too on the break.
Half a chance for Hernandez now, but with the ball at his feet and the whole goal to aim at inside the six-yard box, the Mexican is robbed of a chance by Mike Dean's whistle as he's penalised, correctly, for a push. He sticks the shot wide too in any case.
A corner on the right for United is aimed towards Rooney at the back post but he can't quite evade the attentions of his marker and ends up making no contact with the ball whatsoever. Solid from Swansea at the back so far.
Taunts from the Swansea fans aimed at Van Gaal as they tell the Dutchman he's getting sacked in the morning! It hasn't been the ideal start to his United reign so far.
Hands up who saw that coming?! Van Gaal is showing no emotion in his seat in the dugout, while Garry Monk is out of his chair punching the air. Can United get their composure back?
Goal Ki Sung-Yueng
GOOOAAALL!!!! SWANSEA TAKE THE LEAD!!! Well that certainly wasn't in the script. Swansea move the ball down the left and Sigurdsson tees up Ki, who places his effort low into the far corner beyond the reach of De Gea.
Assist Gylfi Sigurdsson
Yellow Card Nathan Dyer
Nathan Dyer picks up the unwanted distinction of picking up the first caution of the season as he takes out Ander Herrera from behind.
The biggest cheer of the afternoon so far as Mike Dean brings out the vanishing spray for the first time! Those cheers are almost eclipsed moments later as Mata's free kick has to be fisted away by Fabianski.
JONES!!! What a shot this is from the centre-back. He's played in down the right and it looks like he may be trying to cross more than anything, but it almost catches out Fabianski at his near post. Jones was actually caught as he shot and United now have a free kick in a dangerous area.
It appears the injury maybe is too much for Lingard and Adnan Januzaj is on in his place .
PENALTY APPEAL!!! Chris Smalling takes a tumble in the area after going up for a challenge with Williams. The defender wants a foul given, but Mike Dean isn't interested and we play on.
Hernandez is fouled inside the Swansea half and United have a free kick here. Mata swings it in but Amat gets his head to it and clears the danger inside his own six-yard box.
It looked bad, and the stretcher was on, but Lingard is back in this game! It seems a miraculous recovery more than anything else, but it's a relief to see that the injury was nothing serious.
This doesn't look too clever. Jesse Lingard has gone in for a 50/50 with Ashley Williams and it looks like he is going to have to be stretchered off here. He looks in some pain and it could have been his knee that has been injured in the impact.
STAT ATTACK: It's less than a year since these two met on the opening day of last season, but Manchester United's starting line up is virtually unrecognisable. Only David De Gea and Phil Jones have kept their starting berth from the side that won 4-1 at the Liberty Stadium.
It's not a bad delivery from Sigurdsson but Tyler Blackett is up to head the danger clear. Louis van Gaal hasn't sent out the tallest team this afternoon and they could be something Gary Monk's side can capitalize on.
Lingard brings down Neil Taylor inside the Manchester United half. A chance for a deep cross for the Welsh side here. Can they cause United any problems?
SIGURDSSON! The effort of the new season brings a comfortable stop for De Gea. Young got caught under the ball deep in his own half but when Swansea recycle it, the Icelandic midfielder sees his shot easily stopped.
United are just beginning to move the ball down the right with a bit more frequency. Lingard has had the chance to send in a couple of crosses from the that side, but he's yet to find a team-mate in red.
One thing that will certainly be scrutinised today is Van Gaal's new formation. It's brought a fierce energy to the side in these opening stages, but as Shelvey has just shown, it could be susceptible to the ball in behind.
A lovely ball from Shelvey almost catches United out at the back! His lofted pass is perfect for Wayne Routledge but the winger can't quite bring the ball under control and it rolls through for De Gea in the United goal.
Swansea look a little shaky here! They give the ball away inside their own half and Young tries to feed through Rooney, but the pass is just behind his fellow Englishman.
The ball is floated long and Rooney gets his head on it. It's into the path of Hernandez but Fabianski is off his line quickly to clear up any imminent danger.
Welcome to the Premier League Herrera! Jonjo Shelvey comes through with a strong tackle on the Spaniard, giving away a free kick. The pair stare each other down after the collision. That could be a tasty battle in the midfield.
We are up and running in the 2014/15 Premier League season! Swansea get us underway but United are quick to press for the ball. Lingard thinks he's won an early corner but it's flagged as a goal kick by the linesman.
The teams are out at a noisy Old Trafford, we are moments away from kick off!
Louis van Gaal gives youth a chance in his first competitive fixture in charge of United. Tyler Blackett and Jesse Lingard start as the Dutchman continues to impose his new formation - playing three central defenders and utilising wing-backs. Ander Herrera also makes his Premier League debut in the middle.
Swansea XI (4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Rangel, Amat, Williams (C), Taylor; Ki, Shelvey; Dyer, Sigurdsson, Routledge; Bony. SUBS: Gomis, Tiendalli, Montero, Tremmel, Bartley, Richards, Sheehan.
MANCHESTER UNITED XI (3-4-1-2): De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Blackett; Lingard, Fletcher, Herrera, Young; Mata; Rooney (c), Hernandez.SUBS: Amos, James, M Keane, Fellaini, Kagawa, Nani, Januzaj.
The team news is out ahead of kick off so let's take a look at the starting line ups now. We'll start with the hosts.
On both those big occasions, the 20-times league winners chalked up wins, with the Welsh club merely turning up and playing their part. Van Gaal and home fans will be hoping for a similair story this afternoon, especially after such a successful pre-season, in which United went unbeaten.
Swansea have created a habit of popping up on the big occasions for United in recent years. They provided the opposition for Sir Alex Ferguson's last game at Old Trafford and almost a year ago to the day they welcomed David Moyes to the Liberty Stadium for his first Premier League game in charge. Now, they help them usher in the reign of Louis van Gaal.
It's been 14 weeks. 98 days. 8,467,200 seconds. Whichever you look at, the Premier League has been out of our lives for too long. But after a long gruelling summer it's back! And we have coverage of the first game for you right here as Manchester United host Swansea City.
