Full time in Old Trafford! Manchester United suffer 10 defeats in the Premier League for the first time after going down 3-0 to City in the Manchester derby. Edin Dzeko got two and Yaya Toure rounded off the comprehensive victory in the second half as Manuel Pellegrini's men move up to second place in the table, three points behind Chelsea. It's another reality check for David Moyes in this season of transition. His team were well and truly beaten tonight! I'm Martin Macdonald, thanks for joining us! See you next time!
GOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLL FOR MANCHESTER CITY!! YAYA TOURE SEALS THE WIN IN STYLE! The Ivorian receives a loose ball on the edge of the box and takes an assured touch past Evra before lashing a strike into the bottom left corner! Three-nil! Game well and truly over!
It's Mata who's given the job of hitting the free kick, but much like every other of United's attempts on goal tonight, barely causes a problem for City. Hart ends up tipping the ball over the bar under pressure from Evra after the ball deflects high into the air.
Kompany runs the risk of another yellow card as he brings down Chicharito 25 yards out in his proactive attempts to claim the ball back for City. He escaped the booking but United get a free kick within shooting distance.
A small penalty shout for City as the visitors counterattack through Toure. The Ivorian slides a pass into the box to Zabaleta who goes down under the challenge of Valencia. It would have been very, soft, and the referee concurs. No spotkick for the men in blue.
The fans making the most noise at he moment are the Man United fans. Their support of their side and David Moyes in recent weeks has been fantastic considering what they have been viewing on the pitch. Another desperately limp performance against a rival.
Superb clearing punch by Hart! Rooney whips a fantastic free kick into the box and it looks like it's just going to nestle in the corner, but the City keeper keeps his eye on the ball to clear the danger with authority! He was under massive pressure from Evra too, so that was great goalkeeping.
Evra shows some attacking ambition get forward on the overlap, but is cynically brought down by Zabaleta a few strides before he can make his way into the box. United get the free kick in an extremely useful position on the left of the penalty area.
Valencia bursts forward on the right flank and his Kagawa in support just on the outside. He looks to lay a pass through to the Japanese but there's far too much on it which allows Demichelis to make the interception.
It's the last throw of the dice for David Moyes as he throws Javier Hernandez into the action with just under 15 minutes remaining. The Mexican will replace Danny Welbeck up top for United.
Pellegrini is definitely going down the defensive route with his latest change as he introduces James Milner in place of Nasri down that left-hand side. This swap may be to nullify the threat of Valencia on the right flank for United.
SAVE FROM HART!!! Kagawa gets in behind the City defence down the right-hand side and lashes a cross into the box which Welbeck meets. He cleverly flicks an attempt towards goal which forces the City keeper into a brilliant instinctive block! There was echoes of Welbeck's goal against Sweden in the European Championships there!
Welbeck receives the ball on the left-hand side and swiftly cuts inside onto his right foot. He tests the gloves of Hart with a strike but it lacked the pace or accuracy to pose a true threat to the England keeper, who gets his body behind the ball to make the comfortable block.
Jesús Navas González
Pellegrini follows suit and makes the opening City change, with Javi Garcia coming on to replace Jesus Navas. This will likely mean Toure moving slightly further forward, with Silva coming out to the right wing.
That'll be the last action for the former Everton man, who's replaced by Antonio Valencia.
Carrick collects the ball in the middle of the park but there are just no options coming short as Kagawa and Mata are being marshaled by Fernandinho and Toure. A cross is eventually floated to the back post and Fellaini gets above Zabaleta well to head at goal, but his attempt goes a yard or so by the post.
Fellaini releases Rooney down the left-hand side and he looks to burst beyond Yaya Toure, but thinks better of it and cuts back inside, before winning the throw in off the Ivorian.
Kagawa tries to be a bit too clever on the edge of the box after a corner and as a result City quickly win possession back. The ball comes to Nasri in the inside-right channel inside the box but for some reason the Frenchman opts for a chip to the back post, which Ferdinand manages to mop up.
The United fans, to their credit, still remain buoyant and try to get behind their team with some chances, but the energy is sucked out of the stands once again thanks to a poor, poor delivery into the box from their side. Rafael is the culprit this time.
United just have not learned from their mistakes in the first half. Once again they've allowed City to come on to the pitch after the break and comfortably assert their dominance.
GOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLL FOR MANCHESTER CITY!!! They double their lead! A Nasri corner kick is whipped to the front post and Dzeko gets beyond Ferdinand to brilliantly divert a volley into the top corner! As simple as you like, straight off the training ground! Two-nil!
Brilliant tackle by Jones! Dzeko gets in behind the United defence and looks ready to pull the trigger with a left-footed strike, but he England defender just stretches out a leg to take the ball away from the foot of the City striker!
Kagawa and Mata exchange a lovely one-two down the right-hand side before the Japanese international looks to thread a pass through to Rooney, but Demichelis comes across to fire the ball into the stand for a throw in.
Fernandinho misses from five yards out! Kompany gets the better of the defender at the front post and glances a header into the danger area, but the Brazilian just can't shift his body into the correct position to divert his header on target!
A decent period of possession at the moment as City's defensive line retreats deep into the half. It looks a pretty tough nut to crack for the home side though, as they look bereft of ideas as they slowly spread the play from right to left.
A really good start to the half from City again. Some of the tempo and intensity from the opening 10 minutes of the first period looks to be back.
Brilliant block by Carrick! The ball drops kindly to Zabaleta on the edge of the box who drives a half-volley towards goal, but the United man charged down the attempt to deflect the attempt behind for a corner.
A change to report for you at half time as Shinji Kagawa comes on to replace Tom Cleverley.
We are back under way in the Manchester derby!
Half time in the Manchester derby. Manuel Pellegrini's men made the perfect start as they netted their opener just 45 seconds into play and looked likely to further add to their tally as United were on the ropes, but the home side have recovered fairly well and look to have regained their confidence. Not too much other goalmouth action to speak off, but it's delicately poised at Old Trafford!
45' + 3'
45' + 1'
Three minutes of added on time in the first half. Plenty of time to grab a goal! Can City kill off the game or will United claw themselves back into contention?
Welbeck collects the ball at the corner flag and attempts to twist and turn past Demichelis but ends up having to settle for the corner kick. He had absolutely no support up there, so he did well in the end.
Great defending from Clichy! Rooney looks to pick out Fellaini at the back post and the Belgian has time to jump up for a header, but before he can reach the cross the City left-back comes out of nowhere to glance the ball behind for a corner!
TWO terrific chances missed for United!! A cross is lashed into the box and Rooney looks poised to have a crack at goal, only to hit a fresh air shot! The ball then comes to Mata who takes an assured touch but then balloons his attempt over the bar!
United have had a lot of possession so far but unfortunately for them it's mostly been in areas which don't pose much of a threat to the opposition. Some neat passing, but very little penetration.
Rafael drives out of the right-back position and dashes forward a few strides before laying the ball inside to Welbeck, who does brilliantly to whip a pass out to the left for Mata. The Spaniard has team-mates inside the box but doesn't trust his own pace to get beyond Zabaleta and eventually reverts back, taking all the momentum out of the attack.
It all looked pretty ominous for United in the opening stages as City came bursting out of the blocks looking for goals, but the tempo has just dropped out of the game in the last 15 minutes or so which has kept the deficit at just one for Moyes' outfit.
Some lovely link-up play in the middle of the park between Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, and Silva sees the ball eventually come to the former Valencia midfielder on the edge of the box, but any potential shot on goal is foiled by Cleverley, who comes in with a superbly-timed tackle to claw back possession for United.
Yellow CardMarouane Fellaini
Marouane Fellaini is one lucky, lucky boy. He's booked for what looks like an innocuous challenge on Zabaleta but on closer inspection there was a clear elbow into the face. The referee was only yards away, so it's hard to see how the Belgian wasn't dismissed.
Rooney collects the ball in his favourite position just in front of the opposition defence and looks for runners down the channels. He eventually drills a pass out to Evra but once again there's no quality on the ball into the box, and Hart comes off his line to claim out of the air.
Moyes' men do actually look as if they may have some joy on the counterattack, as City are playing an extremely high line, but it's just the final pass or cross that's lacking the quality to pose a threat to the visitors.
Fellainiiiii! Unlucky! The Belgian latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the area and looks to hit a snap shot at goal, but the connection wasn't all there and Hart gobbles the attempt up comfortably.
A real opportunity passed up by United as Rooney gallops forward down the centre before looking for the pass inside to Mata, but the ball to his-team mate was slack and Kompany manages to intercept. It was three versus two in that counterattack there!
The United fans cheer in anticipation at the resulting set-piece but any shouts are quickly snuffed out as Rooney's corner is desperately shallow towards the front post, which allows City to clear easily.
A rare venture into the City box sees Mata burst down the channel before attempting to lash a cross into the penalty area for Rooney, but Kompany is well-positioned to divert the ball behind for a corner.
Yellow CardDanny Welbeck
What a save De Gea!! The United keeper initially sends a poor clearance into the middle of the park which Toure puts back into the danger area. The ball finds it's way to Dzeko who squeezes in a shot at goal, but the Spaniard redeems himself with a superb block to turn the strike round the post!
It's a bit of a car crash just inside the City half at the moment as Welbeck slips going into a challenge with Zabaleta which sends both players flying into the air. Both are down clutching their shins, but it'll be a yellow card to the Man Utd man.
Good defending from Ferdinand this time. Jesus Navas just showed him a turn of pace inside the box but he got his body between the ball and the City man before clearing out of the box.
Yellow CardVincent Kompany
The United fans spring out of their seats as Kompany blocks Welbeck off down the left-hand side. The home side were definitely on the counterattack there, so it's a deserved booking for the Belgian.
It looks like Antonio Valencia is warming up on the bench, so either there's an early injury or David Moyes is so worried by City's start that he feels he needs to change things 10 minutes in.
One of the main battles tonight was supposed to be Fellaini versus Yaya Toure in the middle of the park. The first entry of this duel sees the Ivorian leave the United man for dead through sheer brute strength and speed.
Silva has just been unplayable so far. The Spaniard is popping up everywhere along the frontline and United just cannot seem to deal with his movement and incisive passes.
As an onlooker, you would be forgiven for thinking this game was at the Etihad. City are enjoying all the possession in the final third, with the hosts sitting deep inside their own half.
Finally, United have managed to assert some kind of authority on the ball, but Carrick, Fellaini, and Cleverley are going to have to do a hell of a lot more to track and spot the runs of the City midfield.
Well, can we all just take a breath after that?! Remarkable stuff. United haven't even been close to getting out of their own half.
In the build-up to that opening goal, Rafael put in a wonderful last-ditch challenge to deny David Silva, but it was his attempts to make this tackle which dragged him out of position, thus opening up the space for Nasri.
What a sensational start from Man City! They've been relentless in their attacking so far!
GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLL FOR MAN CITY!! AN INCREDIBLE START! Nasri breaks away to the back post and cuts inside before smashing a shot off the inside of the woodwork, but Dzeko is on hand to tap in the rebound from a yard out! One-nil!
We are under way in Manchester!
Manchester City have lost none of their last eight Premier League away games, winning six and drawing two. In contrast, Manchester United have lost as many Premier League home games this season as in the previous three campaigns put together.
The players have took to the field, and we are moments away from kick off! In recent years these clashes have had a massive impact on the title race, but even with United languishing down the table, expect none of the fire and passion to be missing!
The former Everton boss has come under scrutiny for United's massively disappointing domestic campaign in his maiden season in charge, but will be buoyed by the fact he has just enjoyed the best week in his tenure, with a victory over West Ham and a Champions League quarter-final place in the bag after the win over Olympiakos.
You can definitely see Moyes' thinking in adding an extra man in the middle of the park after the previous clash, in which they were bulldozed by Toure and Fernandinho in central areas.
The Red Devils will certainly be looking to atone for the damaging 4-1 defeat they suffered at the Etihad in September in the previous Manchester derby. A double from Aguero as well as goals from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri clinched the comprehensive victory for the home side on that occasion.
Pellegrini's first 10 players arguably pick themselves so it is the centre-forward position that is usually up for grabs in the absence of star striker, Sergio Aguero. Edin Dzeko is given the nod instead of Alvaro Negredo tonight.
The Scot has opted to employ a 4-3-3 formation but this will more than likely be converted into a 4-5-1 whenever his side don't have the ball, with Danny Welbeck and Juan Mata retreating deeper into the wings.
Some interesting selections from David Moyes and Manuel Pellegrini then...
Man City (4-2-3-1): Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy; Yaya Toure, Fernandinho; Nasri, Silva, Navas; Dzeko.
Man Utd (4-3-3): De Gea; Rafael, Ferdinand, Jones, Evra; Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini; Mata, Welbeck, Rooney.
I'm Martin Macdonald, and I'll be taking you through the action!
It's the Manchester derby!
