Little to do but what he did looked unconvincing. First-half spill under no pressure showed why few United fans will shed any tears about his summer quit threat.
Should have scored against his former club but headed O’Shea flick on from corner over the bar. Repeatedly stole ball from Zamora’s toes.
Perfectly weighted long-ball put Nani behind Fulham defense for second goal. Willing outlet for the Portuguese.
Elementary stuff from the Serb. Production line to Fulham strike force was so limited he barely needed to make a tackle.
Solid afternoon for the retuning Irishman. Kept Dembele quiet and blocked several Salcido crosses at source.
Quiet game, with the spring heat possibly to blame for the veteran’s subdued display. What he did was carried out with finesse.
United’s twin threat on either wing makes them a side to fear. Smart footwork and excellent through-ball put Berbatov through for first. Beat Fulham offside trap and the onrushing Schwarzer to provide Valencia with second. Made way for Carrick as Ferguson looked to see out game.
What a boost the Ecuadorian’s return has been for United. Burst past Salcido like the Mexican wasn’t there. Put in number of dangerous crosses before he was in the right place to nod home Nani’s deflected cross to make it 2-0. Given rousing send-off when replaced by Owen.
Fitted in seamlessly after two months on the sidelines. One-two with Nani put Berbatov through on goal for first. Dominated Etuhu and Murphy with his speed, power and trickery. Promising comeback ended when substituted for compatriot Fabio.
Much improved performance from the maligned Irishman. Resembled team-mate Scholes at times with several well hit cross-field balls.
Carried on theme of being lethal when replacing Rooney. The Bulgarian’s 21st Premier League goal of the season was slotted effortlessly past Schwarzer from the narrowest of offside margins.
Put game beyond Fulham when he ignored all his years of experience to charge out to Nani. Had to collect ball but didn’t. Almost repeated trick with calamitous clearance at start of second half but dived to save from Anderson.
Made to look like an oaf rather than assured giant. Not at usual standard.
Unlucky to deflect Nani cross into Valencia’s path but wasn’t at the races today. Unable to quell Berbatov.
Northern Irishman couldn’t keep Nani quiet. Beaten by the Portuguese’s quick-feet all too often. Wasted great chance when played in by Zamora.
Was point of weakness for United attack. Ball kept being pinged to Valencia who skinned the Mexican with impunity.
Tasked to hold central midfield, however, leaked like a sieve. Watched on as Gibson and Anderson races past him. Hooked for Gera as Fulham went in search of goals.
Another Fulham player who went missing. Failed to find space as he flitted inside from left wing. Frustrating game ended by introduction of Gudjohnsen.
Even less effective than fellow veteran Scholes. Had no answer to Anderson’s youthful exuberance. Booed off pitch by the home fans who hadn’t forgotten his winning strikes for Liverpool when substituted for Greening.
On-loan Chelsea star may as well have been in the Stamford Bridge stands. Barely got a kick.
American flitted between the left wing and attack but found no joy at either spot.
Disappointingly wasted Fulham’s best chance when he sliced wide after a Scholes interception fell his way. Threat quashed by alert Smalling throughout.
- 1 E. van der Sar
Livened up the midfield after thrown on in the 76th minute.
- 6 W. Brown
- 13 Ji-Sung Park
Helped to secure midfield in final moments after 87th minute introduction.
- 14 J. Hernández
Brought on in the 73rd minute for the excellent Valencia. Had little to do as United sat back and soaked up Fulham pressure.
- 12 D. Stockdale
- 32 R. Halliche
- 2 S. Kelly
- 7 S. Sidwell
Introduced in the 67th minute. Had tit-for-tat battle with Evra.
United old boy given little time to impress as he was brought on in the 82nd minute.
Thrown on in the 55th minute to add threat. Almost found goal with 25-yard strike that edged past the beaten Kuszczak’s left post. Was Fulham’s most threatening player.
