A comfortable afternoon for the England goalkeeper who was alert when called upon, controlling a number of high balls into the area with consummate ease.
Typically impregnable in the heart of the City defence to keep Franco Di Santo quiet and the hosts largely comfortable. Saw a powerful header hit the post late in the second half and was in fine form.
Another fine performance alongside Kompany to offer further evidence of the duo’s burgeoning affiliation in the center of defence. Didn't give Rodallega or Di Santo an inch at the back but had a mare going forward, missing a gilt-edged chance from a yard out.
The former Arsenal man dealt with Wigan’s threat on the counterattack very well, maintaining his positional sense but was always a willing runner when the hosts looked to advance.
Has blossomed as a defender in the past 12 months and once again delivered a confident performance at right-back to quell the threat of Rodallega. Should've scored shortly before the half-hour mark however, but spurned a gilt-edged chance from seven yards out.
Preferred in midfield to Gareth Barry and delivered a solid performance, if a little lacking in creativity. Was caught in possession by Diame on a couple of occasions but protected his defence well.
The Spaniard oozed class in the final third and appears to have added further dynamism to his game, changing pace when cutting inside and generally looking threatening. Set up Aguero's opener and won the penalty for Tevez to miss. Was part of the build-up to City's second and assisted in Aguero's third. Simply unstoppable.
May not have been selected to start in either of England’s two recent internationals but delivered a showing full of confidence down the right-hand side, threatening Maynor Figueroa with some direct running.
Controlled the pace of the game in the middle and linked up particularly well with David Silva, moving forward and looking to break the Wigan line with some penetrative attacking play.
Is already looking to be a quite phenomenal signing. Showed endless energy in pursuing the Wigan defense from the off and only took 13 minutes to get on the scoresheet, coolly slotting past the despairing Al-Habsi. Doubled his tally with a similarly cool finish after some fantastic build-up play.
Was a surprise starter in place of Edin Dzeko at the Etihad Stadium and had a poor introduction, scuffing his penalty into the arms of Al-Habsi. Linked well with his compatriot Aguero, nearly securing an assist with a sumptuous back-heeled through ball.
Ali Al Habsi
The Oman international could do nothing to stop Aguero's opener after being let down by his defenders for much of the opening exchanges. Saved Tevez's weak penalty and kept his side in the game with some fine saves. An excellent showing
Stoic defending from the fullback for much of the game but allowed Silva room to roam from the left-hand side. Was rarely beaten one-on-one but tired in the second half and was brought off.
Looked to direct his team-mates early on but was a little wasteful on the ball under pressure, opting to hit long balls that were easily dealt with by Kompany and Lescott.
Was given a torrid time by Adam Johnson and was largely pinned in, unable to break forward and threaten his counterpart Micah Richards as the game played out in the Latics' half.
Was left isolated out wide, unable to have much of an impact as the home side dominated possession. Showed some nice touches in the second half but was unable to have as much of a say as he would’ve liked.
Worked hard in the center of midfield and dispossessed Carlos Tevez early on to kick start a counterattack for the visitors. Comfortable with the ball at his feet and always willing to dive into a tackle. Provided some much needed vigor.
Went missing for long periods of the game as City, and possession, passed him by. Had little in response to match the hosts' power on the break.
Looked to break from the center of midfield to bolster the Latics' attacking options and nearly latched on to a Rodallega through ball shortly after halftime but was otherwise unable to threaten. Subbed off late.
F. Di Santo
Was provided a first-team spot following his brace against QPR last time out but was ineffective in the face of a far more assured backline. Could've provided his side an instant reply to Aguero's opener but knocked his effort just wide of Joe Hart's left-hand post.
Was shut out by Micah Richards and moved inside to little effect. Never stopped running and chasing the ball down but did little to threaten in possession.
- C. Pantilimon
- 5 P. Zabaleta
- 28 K. Touré
Came on late as the hosts ran out comfortable winners.
Got an assist only two minutes after replacing Carlos Tevez to set up Aguero and was superb on his home debut, seemingly untroubled by the broken bone in his hand.
- 10 E. Džeko
Replaced hat-trick hero Aguero but had little effect with the job very much done at 3-0.
- C. Kirkland
Replaced Boyce with half an hour remaining but struggled to catch up with the pace of the game, getting caught out of position on a couple of occasions.
- 4 J. McCarthy
- 19 D. Jones
Replaced Ben Watson but it was a case of too little too late for the visitors. Not the ideal debut for the Spanish winger.
Came on for Franco Di Santo as Roberto Martinez looked to keep the game at 3-0. Hardly got a sniff of the ball however as Mancini's men dominated.
