The Aquile are flying high at the top of the table and they will aim to keep it that way.
Maintaining The Top Position
Lazio are going from strength to strength and are still in sole control of the pole position in Serie A. The Aquile are unbeaten in their last six league fixtures and have won five of them.
With 16 points from seven games, Edy Reja’s side are two points better off than both Milan and Inter and although at first sight, this does look very encouraging for a side that lost their opening game of the season 2-0 to Sampdoria, it does increase pressure on Lazio to sustain their winning run and keep on winning.
Nevertheless, the former Italian champions will be confident of a victory as they have lost no game in Rome so far and have collected seven points out of a possible nine at the Stadio Olimpico.
Sucked Into The Relegation Mire
Cagliari’s position in the league table in the Italian top flight is a paradox of sorts. The Sardinians are currently 16th with seven points from as many games, and while they are level on points with third-from-bottom Udinese, they are just four points off a Europa League place.
But for Pierpaolo Bisoli’s side, surviving the drop to Serie B is more relevant than looking towards the moon and hoping for European qualification – he will know that his players will have to be extremely good in Rome on Sunday evening to craft a win.
Cagliari have yet to win on their travels in the league this season and have lost three of the four matches away. A win for the Isolani is probably a bit too much but they should attempt for a draw.
Meghni and Cavanda are unavailable for Lazio because of injuries. Reja will go for a 4-3-1-2 system that will have Hernanes just behind the strikers Rocchi and Floccari.
Ragatzu and Pisano are out injured for the Sardinians, who will line up in a 4-3-1-2 formation with Acquafresca and Matri as the main forwards.
