Making his fifth appearance in all competitions since returning from a hiatus, Landon Donovan found his groove with a goal and an assist against Sporting Kansas City.In his second MLS start of the year, Landon Donovan scored and assisted in a 2-0 LA Galaxy win over visiting Sporting Kansas City. The result also halted Kansas City's five-game streak without conceding a goal.
In the 20th minute, Graham Zusi clanked a free kick off the post.
On a Sporting KC attack in the 27th minute, Oriol Rosell slipped. Marcelo Sarvas nipped the ball away and pushed it to Donovan. The U.S. international spend down the left and slipped a low cross in front of goal. In the middle of four defenders in navy blue, Sarvas tucked home from a few feet away.
The goal ended Kansas City's shutout streak at 545 minutes, the fifth longest in MLS history.
The clinching goal came off another slip. Paulo Nagamura lost his footing at the halfway line with the rest of his teammates pushing forward. When the Galaxy cleared their lines in the 74th minute, Robbie Keane turned quickly and left Nagamura trailing behind. The Irish striker bore down on goal and unselfishly passed off to Donovan at the last moment, who finished the simple tap-in.
The result marked the Galaxy's first win and shutout in five matches.
