The Galaxy moved seven points clear of Seattle in the Supporters' Shield race with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Salt Lake. The Los Angeeles Galaxy came from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake, meaning the Galaxy tied the MLS season record with 18 wins.
Fabian Espindola opened the scoring with a tidy header off a Javier Morales corner to mark the first time two Real Salt Lake players have reached double digits in goals in one season.
LA responded in the second half. Chad Barrett held off the significant muscle of Jamison Olave and chipped the ball over Nick Rimando's head with his left peg.
A dozen minutes later, the Galaxy took the lead. Todd Dunivant knocked a loose ball back into danger, where it ricocheted off two RSL defenders, the last of which was Nat Borchers, before pinging into the back of the net.
The win moves LA seven points clear of Seattle Sounders FC atop the table. The Galaxy can clinch the Supporters' Shield next week.
