The Western Conference clubs clash looking to put themselves into playoff position. Both the LA Galaxy and the Portland Timbers both entered the 2014 MLS season with plenty of expectations, expectations which they largely failed to deliver on during the opening portion of the season.
They'll look to meet expectations and get in better position for a postseason spot when they meet Friday (8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network).
The teams were both able to get into a better run of form prior to the league's two-week break for the World Cup. LA (5-3-5) continued the hot streak when play resumed last week, beating the San Jose Earthquakes to stretch its unbeaten run to five matches. Portland (4-5-8) dropped its most recent result to Sporting Kansas City, 1-0.
