Live Commentary

  • Good win for the Red Bulls while missing some key players. Bad loss for the Galaxy to take as their struggles continue.
  • 90' + 6'
Wasted by Beckham, high and hard, and that should do it.
  • 90' + 5'
Last minute of stoppage time and New York has done a nice job to this point of just wasting this game away. There will be a free kick though, and Beckham has a nice angle to deliver a good ball.
  • 90' + 2'
BECKHAM!!! No! He flashed it wide of the mark and it was a ball that was set up nicely for him. More frustration for the Galaxy.
  • 89'
Couple of fouls in a row from the Galaxy are helping New York kill off this game.
  • 88'
    Yellow Card Chad Barrett
  • 86'
Donovan had a gift fall to his feet and Meara came up big again.
  • 86'
Galaxy still pushing for the equalizer.
  • 83'
    SubstitutionJan Gunnar Solli J. Agudelo
  • 82'
Juninho with a blast!! He's not been a force today but he forced a save there from Meara, who has once again been very good for the Red Bulls.
  • 81'
As you would expect, Becham and Donovan, when they provide service, have been dangerous. The last one came form Becks into Landon, and was just headed away at the last moment.
  • 79'
Galaxy getting plenty of pressure, but there just hasn't been much in the way of chances. Barrett just put another one up over the goal from what was actually a decent position.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionMehdi Ballouchy V. Pálsson
  • 75'
    SubstitutionTommy Meyer Michael Stephens
  • 74'
BARRETT!!!! NO! He's pushed it wide. Meara came out and closed the angle and Barrett couldn't put the finish on it.
  • 73'
That was a very dangerous cross finally as Donovan makes his way down the right. Noonan just didn't have time to reach it first, but a dangerous ball non the less.
  • 72'
Corner for New York now, but LA gets it somewhat clear, and finally completely clear of the danger.
  • 69'
To be fair, it's been mostly the Galaxy on the attack, but as in the first half, New york looks fairly comfortable with things the way they are. Missing Henry and Marquez, this is a result the Red Bulls would be completely content with.
  • 68'
    SubstitutionMike Magee Pat Noonan
  • 68'
    SubstitutionEdson Buddle Chad Barrett
  • 66'
We're back to the more plodding pace of the first half. Both teams seem to be lacking some energy or something at this point. There hasn't been much in the way of creative runs and the ball is just moving to the sides and getting lumped into the box.
  • 60'
Franklin with a header from a Beckham cross, well wide of the mark.
  • 58'
Galaxy seem to be trying to find Buddle, but it hasn't really even come close to working.
  • 57'
Not sure what Keane was trying there. Maybe a cross, maybe a very audacious chip. Could have been either really. Neither worked.
  • 53'
Galaxy with a half-chance there. New York is on the back foot again, but there hasn't been a really nice scoring chance for the Galaxy yet.
  • 51'
This match is much brighter right now than it was at the end of the first. Still, the first half started off much better as well.
  • 49'
Beckham whips in a corner and gets a second look at it as the ball pops back out. Meara has had as much action in these first couple minutes of the second half as his did in the entire first half.
  • 47'
A bit of early action, Magee with a shot that has to be pushed wide. Encouraging start for the Galaxy.
  • 46'
We're back in action. LA trailing 1-0 as the second 45 gets under way.
  • Not a classic half of soccer. Neither goalkeeper really had a ton of work to do, though one was beaten. New York will be pleased to be up a goal, but other than that there hasn't been much to talk about in this one.
  • 45' + 2'
Some afters off the ball involving Cooper. Gives the ball back to the Galaxy, but it's wasted and we'll go to the break at 1-0.
  • 45'
A good cross in from Franklin there offered a bit of promise, but again nothing comes of it. Not the most lively half you'll have ever seen.
  • 43'
Major struggles right now from both sides in terms of finding a telling ball. The Galaxy forwards aren't linking up well, and Cooper has been largely isolated.
  • 39'
The service from Beckham was good but New York gets it clear of any danger.
  • 38'
That's a nasty foul!! Donovan dips inside of Lade and takes a knee to knee shot for his troubles. Dangerous spot here.
  • 33'
Cooper got free for a second on the free kick, took it down well and had a go only to see it blocked out for a corner.
  • 32'
    Yellow Card David Beckham
  • 31'
    Yellow Card Dane Richards
  • 31'
    Yellow Card Dax McCarty
  • 31'
A pretty nasty tackle from Beckham there on Richards, sliding in from behind. He'll pick up a booking for that.
  • 29'
Not much for goalmouth action in the last few minutes. A battle in midfield, with both teams struggling to take any real control.
  • 26'
A lot more back and forth since the goal. New York has held on through the early storm, and now it's a much more open match than it was for the first 15 minutes.
  • 21'
What looked like a comfortable position for the Galaxy is now the team being down 1-0. That's been the case for much of the season for this team with one bit of poor play proving costly. Still plenty of match to be played.
  • 19'
    Goal Joel Lindpere
And out of nothing the Red Bulls have the lead. Linpere finds a bit of space and pokes it home on what amounts tot he team's first attack of the game. Really a shock!
  • 16'
Galaxy starting to pile on the pressure. New York continues to sit deep and invite it, with only Cooper up top as an outlet.
  • 15'
Beckham tries to find him again but the forward is caught offside.
  • 13'
There's the first real chance of the day. Keane played in behind and tries a little chip that looks headed in before being cleared off the line.
  • 10'
Not an overwhelming amount of action in this match so far. Galaxy seem patient enough at the moment.
  • 7'
Donovan with a hit from range. He's sitting a bit more central tonight than he has most of the season, drifting into the pocket of space in behind the forwards. New York's five-man midfield is inviting pressure at the moment and giving Donovan time to move forward without much worry.
  • 6'
Now Donovan draws a hard foul. This one is from a better area for service, and Beckham whips it into Buddle, who is flagged offside but had his header pushed away anyway.
  • 5'
New York's first move forward came to nothing, as did Beckham's first free kick of the night. Galaxy certainly looking the sharper of the two sides in the early exchanges though.
  • 2'
Good start for the Galaxy, knocking the ball around confidently for the opening two minutes and ending up with a corner.
  • 1'
    Here we go!!
  • Just a few minutes from kick now. Both sides really looking to get a big win tonight, could help their seasons get headed the right direction. Neither really living up to expectations at this point. Opening kick is coming up next.
  • Getting set for a showdown of the two biggest franchises in MLS. Any time the Galaxy and Red Bull square off there's potential for fireworks, but with Henry out injured some of the luster may be off of this one. We're still about half an hour out form kickoff, but stick around and we'll bring you all the action as it happens.
