LA Galaxy 3-1 D.C. United: Robbie Keane double leads Galaxy to first win of 2012

LA Galaxy 3-1 D.C. United: Robbie Keane double leads Galaxy to first win of 2012

Los Angeles coasted to its first win of the season with a little luck of the Irish. Robbie Keane found his goalscoring form with a brace the day after St. Paddy's.

Make it a double, barkeep. A pair of Robbie Keane goals led the LA Galaxy to a 3-1 win over D.C. United the day after St. Patrick's Day.

Before the game the Galaxy handed out championship rings and then D.C. proceeded to hand out three points.

Keane, apparently cured of his misfiring by Saint Patrick, opened the scoring moments before halftime. Mike Magee dinked the ball to the back post, where Todd Dunivant cushioned a header across the goalmouth and the Republic of Ireland captain slotted past Joe Willis.

Regular United goalkeeper Bill Hamid was away with the U.S. U-23 national team, preparing for Olympic qualifiers.

Keane also kick started the scoring in the second half. Landon Donovan won a tackle in midfield and carried the ball forward. His simple pass found Keane, who readjusted slightly and slammed a left-footed shot into the top corner for his second.

The 2011 MLS Cup champion extended the lead when David Beckham chipped a teasing cross into the box and Marcelo Sarvas headed home his first Galaxy goal.

One minute later D.C. struck back with its only shot on target. Nick DeLeon opened up his body after latching onto Marcelo Saragosa's through-ball and clipped the ball off the far post and in.
