Reggae Boyz take an early lead in Gold Cup Group B following an emphatic win against Grenada.
Jamaica kicked off its Gold Cup group stage campaign on a high note as it earned a convincing 4-0 win against Grenada. The Reggae Boyz were 2-0 up by half-time, and never looked back as they cruised to a comprehensive win.
Grenada was only able to keep a clean sheet for 21 minutes, when following a corner, Luton Shelton clipped home the opener from a cross from the left side. Jamaica doubled its advantage in the 39th minute thanks to Ryan Johnson, who finished well following an excellent ball from Dane Richards.
In the second half, Grenada had no answer for its irresistible opponents. Still not satisfied with the result, Jamaica's Demar Phillips made it 3-0 in the 79th minute after beating his defender, and Omar Daley added a late fourth on a thunderous strike from the top of the box to round off a comprehensive win for the Reggae Boyz.
Jamaica next faces Guatemala on Friday. Guatemala held on for a 0-0 draw against Honduras in the late Monday game, leaving Jamaica all alone at the top of Group B. Grenada will hope to put its woes behind as it takes on Honduras in four days' time.
